Always so nice to hear the truth…
All man-made religions are “evil” or at least have evil components or wahtever… because…
they are MAN-made… and man is evil…
Don’t think man is evil? Read history… doesn’t matter what country… just read the history of any given country…
every generation has had to have its bloodshed… its atrocities… There was Nazi Germany… Before that, the French Revolution… (Devolution)… There was Stalin… i could go on and on but no point…
We were supposedto have gotten more civilized… but then there was Roe v Wade… still with us… Even after all the info on how abortion destroys women phsyically and mentally and psychologically… and destrroys everyone it touches… fathers, grandparents, etc… still we keep it legal…
It almost seems like…
like Jesus never came to us…
or like we just don’t pay Him any attention anymore…
or like we just create Him in our own ugly image…

After all our first guide got into an argument with the Tourism police and was arrested and our group had to wait in the bus, in a designated area till the replacement guide arrived. So were we held by the police for being westerners? Did that spoil our trip to the very interesting museum?
Egypt is so much more than a bunch of badly behaved men.

Do we know that when we visit other country,we should have understand that people who live there may have a different cultures than what we usually practice,whether it related to any religions or not.We should have broaden our judgements and never think shallow.It’s a common sense that human tends to relate things easily with what they experience to what they had read and listened.This sometimes can be both accurate and not.

As a geezer in his late 50s I was posted twice to Cairo for temp work in the embassy. I have to say, judging from what I saw there and what the permanent female personnel told me, that OP’s description of her experiences is probably not far off the track. One of my temp co-workers, an African-American woman in her 30s, asked me to be her escort on shopping runs, so it would appear that she was under a man’s protection. Local men tried to hit on her anyway. And yes, she was modestly dressed.
What I found interesting? funny? strange? was the dark brown mark that a lot of the local men had on their foreheads. At first I thought it was a birthmark, but there were too many of them for that. Then I realized that it was supposed to be a callus caused by the prayer-time prostration with the forehead to the floor. I was talking about that to one cynical Egyptian, and he told me that a lot of men darken it with shoe polish to exaggerate their piety.
For the most part, the only people who “hit on” me were shop-keepers trying to get my $$$. The for my second trip I prepared a t-shirt with Arabic printing, “Ay juz’ min ‘la’ inta mish faahim,” or, in the Egyptian dialect, “What part of ‘no’ don’t you understand?” They didn’t get it.
The high point of my two trips was getting whistled at by a gaggle of high-school girls. I was wearing long khaki pants, a polo shirt, my sunglasses (it’s very bright there), and my Indy Jones hat.

That is interesting. Hypocritical to say the least. I bet they are too busy polishing their foreheads to bother reading the Qur’an, which describes what piety is and that it is not what they are imitating. And probably too busy to read any Hadith also, which describe such people.
Sigh. It’s sad to see it come to that.

Sad, yes, Sister Amy, but it just shows that all religions have people who follow it and people who would like people to believe they are better at following than they are. I think most realise that someone who just looks as though they pray a lot is not necessarily someone who does pray a lot.

Booklover is right, it is easy for you to laugh while you
re in a Christian envorionmnet that has Christian law enforments to protect you. In a Muslim world you wouldnt even dared to be on this forum because its a Christian forum. I am not saying America in general is Christ-like, but the fact that the laws are fair to any male-or-female you sould be very thankful for this Christian Envorionment you live in. It gives you a chance to talk to men, go out in public meet some people and ecetera. In Saudi Arabia or other muslim countires you don`t even have the chance to do that because they follow the Koran more then you think.
