They are related, stem growth is very similar. I think what we call carnations are quite a bit larger and more layered.

Dianthus caryophyllus

Thank you for that identification. I hope it grows again this year, either from the existing roots as it did last spring, or from it’s plentiful seeds.

Before Lent banishes flowers from our churches a quick glance at Easter last year .

That’s on my parents farm…I don’t live far away but have more frosts along with very dry Summers and have some trouble getting them established .
It look like a few pieces have taken this time around though 🙂

A little wildflower I found on the side of the road in Colorado and planted it in my flower garden…wonderful!

Wow, that is an impressive garden. I love the peaches-and-cream colored flowers in the front.

I have, from time to time, planted wildflowers in my garden. Some of them took, some didn’t. I never could get Indian Paintbrush to grow in my beds. On the other hand, the intriguing False Hellebore took off and comes back as a perennial every other year, resting in between.

I love passion fruit and the flower 🙂 It has a really nice light scent too.
There are carnations growing in my parents garden, pink with a darker pink frill -they have an interesting perfume that reminds me of the scent of feijoa fruit .
The flowers taste very nice 🙂
