Still praying for Jim.
Thanks to the unceasing prayers of the faithful, I do not need a stem-cell transplant for the foreseeable future or, just possibly, at all. My own blood stem cells are in cryogenic storage for a transplant, should the need arise. In any event, a transplant is not a cure, and there is no cure for the type of lymphoma I have. A transplant would only re-set my “cancer clock” to zero, but the clock itself always remains running. Think of it as turning the hourglass over. You have more time, but the sand is constantly flowing.
My children would provide the donor stem cells needed, since any transplant would be a combination of my own and the donor cells. However, since my children’s cells are not a close match, and none exists on the world donor list, the transplant would likely produce a substantial amount of what is known as “graft versus host” disease. To slow one disease down, you must create another. In graft-versus-host, the body’s immune system begins to attack its own body, since the transplanted cells are seen as an invading illness. Anti-rejection medication is available to control this, but a stem-cell transplant means only buying time in the hope that some new treatment will appear.
Oh, my…thank God He is our Creator who knows and understands our bodies so much better than anyone! I continue to lift you before Him in prayer each daymlz
