If God causes you to suffer much, it is a sign that He has great designs for you, and that He certainly intends to make you a saint. And if you wish to become a great saint, entreat Him yourself to give you much opportunity for suffering; for there is no wood better to kindle the fire of holy love than the wood of the cross, which Christ used for His own great sacrifice of boundless charity**.**
- Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556)

**Listening **
Listening and hearing are two different things. When a person is truly listening they not only hear the words, but they feel the emotion behind these words. True communication occurs when someone truly listens and not just hears the words.
I had a wonderful and moving (and saddening too) experience of this earlier this evening. A neighbour called over with some great biscuits on a little plate for a cuppa and chat. Like me, she suffers a mental illness and like many in our world, probably all of us to some degree, and perhaps especially sufferers of MI, we have a story. Chatting away she shared with me a trauma in her past, and I did the same about my past -we had similarities. But she was so moved by what I told her (though I did not intend it at all) and because she did have the gift of really listening and heard the emotion behind the story at the time it happened…she took me offguard by hugging me and telling me how sorry she was I went through the event. I was totally thrown off guard and at a loss as to how to comfort her at her emotion and empathy at my long past event.
I am so happy The Lord called me to share so intimately with such wonderful people I find most sufferers of MI to really be. It has changed my lfie totally and all for the very best.
No way can I regret or feel sad or sorry that I have a mental illness. I am priviledged and honoured and no pious platitude at all!

Reflecting with St. Paul

Stay focused on God

Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in the spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
~ St. Paul, Romans 12:11-12
Keep your heart free for God, let him have unbounded freedom in it.

The light of God, our conscience, will soon inform us, if we are watchful, when we lean over much towards creatures.

*~ Father Isaac Hecker, Servant of God, *
founder of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle

Hi Barb, what good timing for your words (even though you have mentioned that you borrow them from another souse) never the less for me spot on. i had my first spiritual directing and it was all very good and enlightening. So helpful and in line with the words you mention here.
Godbless.

Hi there LO!👋 …When I saw your name come up in my subscriptions on this thread, I thought immediately “I must ask LO when his first appt. with his Carmelite priest/director went”.
I am truly deeply happy to read that it went well…and boy! has The Lord favoured you if you have a Carmelite priest for a director if it all fits right for you. You are really blest indeed and The Lord has gifted you with spiritual gold, Wayne.
What sort of golfer is he?
You are in my intentions that your Carmelite will be just right for you in every way.
Glad the post supported what Father had to convey to you…and the quote is a very important one!!!👍 We sit here and type away never realizing that very often it is The Holy Spirit wanting to say something and does, and we think it is us!!!😃 The Holy Spirit like the whole of Heaven is very very humble, and happy to be completely in the background. I think it was St. Paul who said “what is man, Lord, that you care for him, mortal man that you keep him in mind”. We truly do not know who we are and what a surprise it shall be in Heaven to finally at last…phewwwww!..discover who we are:D

I am so happy to hear from you and with such joyful news…Blessings and with my regards…and I know we will catch up now and then in these Forums…Barb:)

The Lord has gifted you with spiritual gold, ***Thinking of that I never think of anything like that only that it is now my time to be moved again by the Holy Spirit because He has ordained it to be that way. ***

What sort of golfer is he? He is beginning and I have only taken him out once but he said he enjoyed it and wants more, so here goes.

Godbless Barb.
Keep on with the good works the Lord Jesus has given you.

PROBLEMS

Be courageous to face any sort of problem as early as possible. It is like a small flame. If you try, you can stop it easily. If you don’t, it will be bigger day by day and burn everything.

The body is the garment of the soul and it is the soul which gives life to the voice. That is why the body must raise its voice in harmony with the soul for the praise of God.
- St. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179)

Do not look for rest in any pleasure, because you were not createdfor pleasure: you were created for Joy. And if you do not know thedifference between pleasure and joy you have not yet begun to live.

  1. Although you perform many works, if you do not deny your will and submit yourself, losing all solicitude about yourself and your affairs, you will not make progress.

God is not found in the soul by adding anything, but by a process of subtraction. – Meister Eckhart
Our minds are like crows. They pick up everything that glitters, no matter how uncomfortable our nests get with all that metal in them. – Thomas Merton

Geeeez where does that leave me??

My work mate told me that he had never known a person like me who doesn’t worry about anything. He said he was going to try it, he is the leading hand I am the Indian (at work) so I don’t have to worry it all goes on to him if it goes wrong. So!!!

…so…“in My Father’s House there are many mansions” (we are all different somewhere)…You are blest indeed to be spared worrying (a useless exercise anyway! achieves nothing but often not an easy achievement (gift) not to worry)…

The quotes were meant to be in the light hearted mode…apologies for not stating this!:o …Not often but sometimes I do post these more light hearted thoughts for today and in future will try to remember to state that it is meant to be so…Barb:)

Hi GA…No, the quote does not come from a book in my possession, rather the quote landed in my email Inbox as most of the quotes in this thread do. I would like to read Meister Eckhart as extracts I have read appeal, just one of those things I’ve never got round to actually doing.
I hope that reading Eckhart will prove to be a rich blessing on your journey.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)
