40% (often less) is how much of the GOP vote Trump customarily gets - you are calling this a majority .
What you you call the smaller percent following Cruz and the even smaller percent following Rubio?
When a candidate wins a primary election with 40% of the vote, and the other 60% is split among the other candidates, that is not a majority. “Majority” by definition requires 50% plus one. Winning with 40% is winning with a plurality.

Possibly.
Haven’t you heard? The ‘establishment’ are the new outsiders.

:tiphat:

I’ve never felt cooler or more relevant (or more American for that matter) in my life. This is also the first time in my life I have actually made it into the establishment category, voting or culture wise. It’s a new experience for me.

Well-intentioned.
They all are but see a difference in the candidates. Listen, if in the end all decided to vote for Trump to circle the wagons to win if need be. Then these people would all be labeled the same. You would be them. And them are assimilated Americans with Free Speech and the right to vote for who they damn well please. Thats who they are Americans. Whats not assimilation is the blatant disregard for these rights.

And yes with the amounts on new voters signing up and coming out in all ages then its rightfully the silent majority. 🤷

I don’t like the backroom strategy they are planning against Trump either.
It is not a backroom strategy. It is in the rules. For Trump to avoid this, he needs to win the requisite 1237 delegates. If he does not get to 1237, he could still win the nomination on the first vote–but according to the rules, which Trump knows about, after the first vote, if no candidate has the 1237 delegates needed to win, the nomination can be contested.

No backroom in any of that–just the rules and they are rules every campaign understands.

Understood and as stated…
Trump has received 4,344,542, or 35% of votes cast thus far, and is currently estimated to have 36% support among those who haven’t voted yet.
Thats 71% and the majority?

Sounds good to me. Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich have 44%, 36% and 24% respectively. That’s what I call a race!

Interesting how when the establishment candidate is the frontrunner, as in past years, they tell us all to get on board “for the sake of the party”, but when someone they don’t like is taking the lead, they won’t do for that candidate what they’ve been forcing everyone else to do the last several elections, that is, coalesce around the leader.
Instead, they’ll try to bend the rules to break him.

I like Cruz the most, personally, but I think it’s disgraceful behavior by the establishment towards Trump.
👍

I had to laugh…a “secretive meeting” with info from it posted in a national online news site.

I’m no republican strategist or republican die hard fan, but I think it’s in the best interest of the RNC that trump does not get the nomination. The RNC has to become more moderate before men like trump become the face of it.
Fielding a moderate candidate is how they lost the last two elections.

I’m not sure what you mean by “the nomination can be contested”. (The way I usually hear it is, in each successive ballot more delegate are unbound, until one candidate receives a majority vote and becomes the nominee.)

But that aside, even if Trump does not have a majority thus far, the supporters of Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich can’t exactly rest on their laurels – just consider that Trump has won 43.5% of the *delegates * (which the race eventually comes down to) that have been awarded so far.

Which, of course, is without even getting to the winner-take-all states.

Trump has plurality not a majority. If there was a run off between him and second place he would lose. More than likely.

I think they should take him out at a convention if they can because he must not be President.

As for this free speech thing. Free speech does not make it okay to yell fire in a crowded building. He has insulted Muslims, African Americans, Women. How shocking then that these folks would protest his arrival.

Even if his speech is legal does not make it right. And as for a third party making it easier for the other side. I see a third party giving America a choice between a sane canidate and someone not corrupt

I am not convinced Hillary is worse her and Bill don’t say these kind of things.

No, you don’t just add them; you have to add them and divide. For example, if the total number of people who have voted (35% of whom voted for Trump) was the same as the total number of people who have not voted yet (36% of whom say they support Trump), you would add and divide by 2, and the percentage of Trump support would be 35.5%.

Personally: if Trump gets the nomination, I may not necessarily try to help him beat Hillary, but I can promise you I won’t help Hillary to beat him. To me that would be stabbing the GOP in the eye. :o
