three days of darkness?

Grace & Peace!
God warned Adam and Eve what would happened if they ate the fruit, and it came to pass not only for them, but for every human.

God brought the flood upon the world and only eight were saved.

God brought fiery destruction upon Sodom and Gommorah, and even Lot’s wife suffered the fate of being turned into a pillar of salt when she disobeyed God’s command.

God sent the plagues upon Egypt.

God sent His Angel to Egypt to smite the first born sons.

God will allow a Great Tribulation and a Great Apostasy leading up to Jesus’ Return.
Irish, here is my challenge to you: how do we interpret these things in the light of the Resurrection?

Note: This is not the same question as, “how do we accept that God participates actively in death, and still manage to call him deathless.” That question is easy to answer–we can’t and we don’t. We cannot believe that God traffics in death and victimage and also believe that God desires not the death of a sinner. Either he does not desire the sinner to die (and therefore the death of the sinner is the “natural” result of his or her sin), or he does desire the sinner to die (and therefore, he causes the sinner to die).

Again, though–the question before you is how do we interpret the plagues of Egypt in light of the Resurrection which reveals that God heals wounds and does not cause them?

You are free to believe that God traffics in death, disease, plagues and destruction in order to entice us to love him. I hope you understand, however, that the Good News does not corroborate such a belief. It is precisely because it does not corroborate such a belief that it is the Good News!

Under the Mercy,

I think it is wrong to say God traffics in death, disease, plagues and destruction. God does desire that all humans be saved, so He does not “traffic” in those things. However, God does deal with justice, for He is most assuredly a just God. The Resurrection, while available to all, and is a free gift to all, must be accepted in order to receive the fruit of that reality.

God did not desire for Adam and Eve to sin. Nor did He desire for the Egyptians to sin, or for those living in Sodom and Gomorrah to sin. All sin is choice, and God gave us free will, the ability to choose. God wants us to freely love Him, He does not want robots, or else He would have simply created a race of robots. This means we can choose to love God, or not, it is up to each person.

Jesus died for all, but Jesus’ death on the cross does not mean everyone is saved.

God does not cause wounds, He heals them–I agree. We, however, cause wounds to ourselves and to those around us–that is sin. If we turn back to God after sinning, God is there to embrace us and to heal us, yet we MUST turn back to Him, He simply will not force us.

Jesus died for us by choice. He loved us so much, He took on that pain and our sin, by His choice. We must do the same by dying to self, and by turning back to Him when we do fall. The amazing thing is, God (Jesus) have us the most direct means of turning back to Him, and that is through Sacramental Confession–a most incredible gift in which we walk away knowing we have been absolved of our sins–NOW that is the cross and the Resurrection in action! 🙂

Deo Volente,

there’s an idea mentioned in St Faustina’s Diary…

it’s that God’s mercy is infinite, but if we don’t accept His mercy, all that is left for us is His justice.

If the world rejects God’s mercy, by His justice, He allows chastisements.

Various Saints have spoken about this. It’s only because of human free will. God wishes for everyone to respond to His Mercy. As for the Warning, if that happens that’s an act of Mercy from God because it would help people see where they’re going before it’s too late, so they’ll have time to change.

God bless

I agree completely. The warning, if it happens, will be an act of mercy.

May the Lord have mercy on all of us and everyone we know! 🙂

Indeed!

Certainly!

I believe this is true, yes!

Yes indeed! The forgiving love and grace of God is still available to us, even in the midst of our sin. God is ready to forgive and to help us heal the pain that we have caused ourselves and others by our sins.
"Monica:

Monica, I do not believe that there is a duality in God, that his justice is distinct from his mercy. It is clear by the cross and the Resurrection that God’s mercy *is *his justice. It is a mystery beyond our death-bound selves to understand. Only the light of the Resurrection makes this grace comprehensible.

It is possible that those who reject God’s love experience that love as pain precisely because they have rejected it. This, however, is not because God wills pain on them or desires to chastise them in order that they might love him. It is because they have rejected the love which keeps the world and themselves in being–all things, therefore, become pain to them, even their very existence. But God does not will that they experience such pain. God may allow us to give ourselves up to our own depravity and violence, but it is because he desires our love freely, not because he is willing on us our depravity and violence in order to punish or save us. Sin is its own punishment. What could be worse than to continue in the death of sin? I suppose worse would be the God of Love willing and desiring that death of sin on us—the God of Yes and No, the ambivalent God of Deathful Mercy who says to people “Love each other! Be like me! I’m love!” while he destroys people with demons, gas and darkness. That may be the God revealed by the Warning, or the 3 Days, but thankfully that’s not the God revealed by Jesus Christ.
The warning, if it happens, will be an act of mercy.
I cannot fathom such a thing. It will be an act of God’s mercy to destroy men, women and children through the agency of demons, darkness, and poison gas so that other people can look upon this mercy and say, “This kind of deathfulness and rampant destruction reveals that God is love”? If a father were to maim his infant son because he wanted to warn him to be properly obedient both now and in the future, would we call him loving? Would any loving human being gas a friend for whom they were willing to die in order to warn their friend that they should be obedient? Are we really willing to believe that God is less moral than we are in our falleness? Why on earth would we believe in such a monster?

Again, I maintain that if anything like the 3 Days happens, it will be because we caused it, not God. God will have had nothing whatsoever to do with it.

You seem to be confused in the difference between what is known as the warning and the chastisment. The warning is an illumination of conscience in the light of Christ. It is a look at ones own soul as the Lord see’s it. As hurtful as it is or may be, it is nothing more then truth. As for any chastisment that comes after this revealing should there be a failure to repent, it is quite sound and biblical. I don’t think I have to quote all the scripture that reveals this fact to you. Also, you keep saying that one of the chastisments is “poison gas”. This is something I have never heard before and find it discrediting in nature.

Samson, thanks for clarifying my confusion. I can indeed imagine such an illumination as a great mercy.

As to the assertion that a chastisement is sound and Biblical, I remain unconvinced. Can you demonstrate to me how the Resurrection of Jesus, the definitive revelation of God’s loving and forgiving nature, reveals that the God who gives his life for us would also like to kill us? Or that he is willing to kill us, although killing us goes against his will (as he desires not the death of a sinner)? Can you show how the Resurrection reveals God to be the sort of God who would traffic in the scale of death described by the 3 Days?

My point is this: if the Resurrection is not intended to radically reform our understanding of God and of ourselves (as well as of Scripture which records our developing understanding of God and of ourselves in relationship)–if, in other words, (and contrary to Paul) we had it right all along and the Law and the OT are definitive of God’s nature–then what’s the point of Christianity? What new revelation does it actually intend to describe? Would it not be better to start from the understanding of God given through the Resurrection (that God has no part in death and sin) and interpret all of those chastisements of scripture as either the natural consequences of our sinful nature (i.e., sin is its own punishment), or the mythological attributing of our own violent and deathful natures to God?

Let me make a point very clear: The three days of darkness is NOT the warning, there willl be (according to private prophecies) a distinct warning that every living person will receive prior to the three days of darkness.

The warning will be such that no person can ignore it and everyone will know it has happened. It is only after the warning that the three days of darkness would be sent and then that is an act of justice by God.

Think of how God warned the people before the Great Flood, for some interpreters it would seem God gave a 120 year warning to all people to turn to Him lest they be swept away. The people did not listen and only eight people were saved from the floor waters that God brought upon the earth.

Think further of Jonah and Nineveh and how after a warning the city repented, thus God did not bring His wrath upon them because they repented. That city was given a warning, that was an act of Mercy from God, and the people of Nineveh heard the warning and turned to God, thus sparing themselves God’s justice.

Those are two opposite examples. In the flood we see people refused to listen to the warning God gave. In Nineveh the people did listen.

It must be stressed that God does not desire for even one soul to be lost, yet He will not force us to turn to Him.

As for all of this, as I stated before, no Catholic is bound to believe or accept any of the things coming from private revelation. However, no Catholic is able to licitly reject Public Revelation that forms the Deposit of Faith. Therefore, let us pray and hope that if ever there is a warning, that all people heed the warning and thus all will be saved and the three days of darkness will be averted through mass conversions–similar to what happened in Nineveh.

God bless you. 🙂

Deo Volente, I’m having some trouble understanding this, to be honest… maybe my understanding of Jesus’ Sacrifice is different. His Sacrifice is what brought us mercy but He made it because of God’s justice. He spoke to St Faustina in a way that suggested there is a distinction between God’s mercy and justice… for example, regarding Purgatory, Jesus said that His mercy does not want this but justice demands it. God wants to show us mercy, but for this, we need to accept it and repent and trust Him… and for the souls in Purgatory, we need to pray for them: it’s because of God’s mercy that their stay there could be shortened. It’s really up to us if we’ll experience God’s mercy or His justice…because He is offering us mercy, but if we reject it, there’s only one thing left: justice. The reason people go to hell in that case, is because none of us can merit Heaven without God’s mercy and grace.
It is possible that those who reject God’s love experience that love as pain precisely because they have rejected it.
I’ve heard this idea also, - that even God’s love is painful for them.
I think maybe there’s some misunderstanding here… 🙂 I am not saying that God wills them pain. That’s not what I meant by His justice. What I tried to say is that if we reject His mercy, He is forced in a way to show us justice only: because that is all that we then accept. It doesn’t mean that He wants this, He wishes for all to come to repentance. The loss of each soul causes Him great sorrow.

With the chastisement, if it would happen, - it’s similar… if it would happen, it’s only because people have rejected God’s mercy and didn’t repent.

God does allow difficulties to help us learn to love Him… for example, Christians often go through some sort of trials, whether spiritual or other, or desolation, dark night of the senses or even the dark night of the soul (that is rare). St Padre Pio talked about this being the “bread” that helps us grow, otherwise we would never learn how to love.

In the case of chastisements, it’s kind of like God is trying to make the world see what they are doing. While trials are given to devout Christians who are trying to follow God, chastisements are given to those who don’t love Him. It’s like how CS Lewis said, “pain is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

God bless

here is my challenge to you: how do we interpret these things in the light of the Resurrection?
The resurrection is an end that results in everlasting life or the “second death” of damnation, according to ones own state. I don’t deny the fruits of the resurection. If anything the example the Lord gave us in His passion, death and resurrection should tell us how we should meet our own end and through the Cross, the tree of life, be transformed, in His death and resurection, to eternal life. When the Lord said “let the dead bury the dead”, it was a look into His perception of those who don’t follow Him. They are already dead as St. Paul pointed out that the law introduced death by commandment as no one is justified by the law. St. Paul also pointed out that we are adopted son’s of God and as sons we are to accept disipline from our heavenly Father more so then our earthly father. “For He chastises’ those He loves.”…“for our God is a consuming fire”. Heb. ch12. We know the parable of the sowers, how all are reaped and then seperated as not to uproot the wheat. This parable is explained by Christ, Matt. 13 " 37 He answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38* the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, andthe reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41* The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 42* and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun* in the kingdom of their Father.* We know that the Kingdom of the Father is in heaven…how do you suppose you get there?
You can read almost all of Rev. to get the gist of things, but I put marks of the fact that the Lord Himself is the first to use His sickle in the harvest of the grapes, then His angel, to be trodden in the wine press of Gods wrath. The fire of torment is done in the presence of the Lord and His angels. Rev 13 10* he also shall drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and he shall be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
It is only the Lamb that is worthy to do these things as Rev. 5 1* And I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals; 2 and I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I wept much that no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5* Then one of the elders said to me, “Weep not; lo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Not even the demons are giving permission to kill their own in Rev 9 3* Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth; 4* they were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green growth or any tree, but only those of mankind who have not the seal of God upon their foreheads; 5 they were allowed to torture them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torture was like the torture of a scorpion, when it stings a man…
It would be nice to think that the Lord is not going to do these things, but in doing that it ignores that He is the only one worthy to do so, by His life, death and resurrection.

Praised be Jesus in every tabernacle of the world…

IrishPatrick,

Friend, I can only state what has been given to me from GOD, and it is what people know as “The Warning”, The illumination of conscience" and “The Awakening”. It happened to me Dec of 1999, 11 years ago. I am Catholic and do not follow priests who because of their role say one thing and do another. We need to be examples and not just religious rhetoric. I do respect what you are saying, but you have to understand that everything will change because of individuals like myself who are graced by GOD Himself.

Pharisees and Sadducees spoke to Jesus trying to trap Him at every step, but Jesus fulfilled everything that was given to His prophets. In this same way, I, have been given a special grace and your words cannot trap GOD’S truth that was given to me. GOD gives what He wants to those who pray, fast, adore Jesus in the Eucharist, go to confession and go to daily Mass. One could study all of the Church writings and read Revelation over and over again, but the meaning of what GOD intends for us (mankind) would never be given to one unless one prays, fasts, adores Jesus in the Eucharist, goes to Confession and goes to daily Mass. The answer still might not be given such an individual, but GOD loves His Holy people.

Years have gone into my search for GOD, and rightfully so according to GOD, I have been given very little, and yet so much, that I do not abuse it by trying to strip away the glory of what GOD has ordained for others. I do not speak lightly of “The Warning”. I speak from experience and I speak the truth. You speak the truth, but you speak from books like the Pharisees and Sudducees. Experience is better.

With the Warning being so close at hand, you need to understand that people are searching for the answers concerning this event. If you can’t give the answer, you need to stay clear. The Bible and the Catechism is not intended to use against those who believe in GOD. By using the Bible and Catechism in such a manner, you chase those looking to GOD away from HIM. Like I said, I respect what you are saying, but you need to give up trying to prove your way over mine. You are going against GOD Himself. I am not saying I am GOD, but what happened to me is, and was and will always be from GOD.

The Divine Mercy chaplet and how we are able to assist in someone’s salvation (Entry 1565) is not in the bible, yet Saint Faustina was given the meaning of how we individually can assist in the salvation of someones’ soul even if that soul is entering hell itself, Jesus told Saint Faustina He wanted her to assist in a soul. Read that entry. This is a great revelation in this entry for all the world to know about, and if it hadn’t been given to Saint Faustina, we would never know about the Divine Mercy chaplet. This is only one example of a simple prayer that is NOT in the Bible or in the Catechism, but it is through a simple Nun who was given this prayer from Jesus. The Warning is the same thing. Prepare for it with the contrite heart of a 5 year old, or be lost when it happens.

If you don’t want to believe in “The Warning” that has been given to me, that is fine, but let me put it to you this way. Even if “The Warning” that was given to me, is from the devil himself, which doesn’t make sense to me because why would the devil want anyone to see their soul the way GOD sees it, but lets say, that the devil gave me “The Warning”. Even if it is from this fallen angel, it was permitted by GOD so it is supernatural in its origin and since it was given to me and not you, I have been chosen to explain The Warning to those who ask about it. I do this because I love Jesus.

If you choose to confuse others by trying to make me look silly or stupid when I answer questions concerning “The Warning”, know this; it is not I who you are fighting.

Jesus Christ, King of Mercy, I trust in YOU

Praised be Jesus in every tabernacle of the world…

Monica, this is true, but let me add, that if you pray the Divine Mercy chaplet for an individual, even if they don’t have time to change, Jesus will plead for that individuals’ soul to GOD His Father, in their last hour of breath. This is mercy that He has given to us beyond His justice. Justice is final once a person dies, but everyone needs to pray Jesus’ Divine Mercy chaplet unceasingly for all mankind so that Jesus can present Himself in the last hour of each and every soul that perishes after “The Warning” is given. GOD will not deprive of us of “free will” so no one will perish during “The Warning”. After “The Warning” people could take their own life or die of shock of what they have seen so pray the Divine Mercy chaplet unceasingly for all mankind…

Jesus Christ, King of Mercy, I trust in YOU

Tanmara,

I have not once felt as if I was fighting against you, as you seem to feel. Instead, I feel I have tried to give you loving correction regarding points that you are simply mistaken about.

I too have had many “experiences,” you are not alone in being touched by our loving God. Most people who truly seek God, will find themselves touched in a plethroa of different ways. Yet, I am truly happy that you have such a deep and abiding love for the Lord, may God continue to bless you each and every day. 🙂

Ultimately, what I have posted are NOT my opinions, they are the formal teachings of Jesus’ Church. I choose to bind myself to Jesus and HIs Church, and the Lord expects us to be obedient to both Him, and His Church.

I do think it is a bit harsh of you to compare me to the Pharisees and Sadducees, and for you to imply that I am trying to trap you or bait you into something. That is not remotely fair and it is not remotely accurate.

My message here is simple: **private prophecies are not public revelation and they are not part of the deposit of faith. **

Catholics are not bound to believe them or even consider them. The warning might happen, and the three days of darkness might happen, BUT it is also true to say that they might not happen. I am trying to ask you to stop stating YOUR views of the Warning and the Three Days as if they were established formal teachings of the Church, they are not. They are conditional prophecies that stem from private revelations–they do not rise to the same level as Public Revelation. It does not matter at all how much you believe they will happen, the truth is the Church does not hold those events as being absolutes. Catholics are free to accept or reject them and still remain in good standing. We simply cannot claim that the warning and the three days of darkness will absolutely happen! The Church does not affirm such a claim, nor does anything in the Bible or all of Public Revelation affirm such a claim.

A Catholic, who loves and follows Jesus and His Church, and goes to Mass and Confession, will receive salvation. Everything else, while wonderful and productive, is not actually required. Faith in the Lord, obedience to the Lord and His Church, and regular attendance at Mass and Confession–that is all that is required for a Catholic to be saved! Sometimes, Catholics make this way more complicated than it needs to be.

Private revelations and prophefcies, like the warning and the three days, are calls for everyone to reexamine their own faith and to make changes where needed, but a person who already has a binding love and faith in Jesus (and His Church) has nothing at all to worry about (other than to pray for the conversion of those around them).

I do feel a bit concerned about this statement, you made: * I am Catholic and do not follow priests who because of their role say one thing and do another.* Catholics do NOT follow Priests, we follow Christ. I am not certain where you even developed a concept that Catholics follow Priests.

God Bless. 🙂

Don’t feel concerned about me friend. Be concerning how you got involved. First off I was answering Monica’s question and not yours. Your statement was to correct where no correction was needed. Do you want to give answers to the questions or do you just simply feel like you need to correct all Catholics? I did not ask for your correction and I did not ask for your statement concerning the deposit of the faithful of Jesus Christ. Like I said, I respect what you say, but now, you have said, you want or need to correct me. Please do not correct me, you only anger me which I will have to go to confession for. If that is your intention, then keep responding. Anger is not from GOD, but forcing the anger of others is also not from GOD.

You responded to my post first and attacked my integrity, by what you posted and said as follows: One cannot say that the warning is an absolute. One cannot say that the Three Days odf Darkness is an absolute. One can only say they believe that those things are possible, perhaps even likely, but they have NOT been given in Public Revelation, they belong only to private revelation and are not binding or formal teachings.

As you can see, you threw the first blow, I didn’t, but yet you would try to make everyone believe that you did it lovingly. I beg to differ with you. There is no love in what you are saying. It is jealousy and envy because you cannot possible understand “The Warning” that was given to me from GOD!!!

Jesus Christ, King of Mercy, I trust in YOU

It is jealousy and envy because you cannot possible understand, The Waring!!!

Jesus Christ, King of Mercy, I trust in YOU
Friend, and I do mean, friend. I never attacked you and I most certainly threw no blows and I made no statements about your personal integrity. So, in the spirit of love of Christ, please place your anger toward me down, for I hold no ill feelings toward you at all. It is quite clear that you love Jesus and that you mean well in your posts here. Yet, I too love Jesus, and I too mean well in what I post, and what I said is true. If you disagree, then say you disagree, there is no reason for two people (who both love the Lord), to feel strife in any form.

If I am wrong in what I say to you, than please, tell me exactly where in formal teachings can I find what you say. My correction was not of you pesonally (I cannot do that since I do not know you). Rather, my correction was of the misleading statements you have made that imply the warning and the three days of darkness will absolutely happen. There is nothing in the Deposit of Faith that affirms that claim, if I am wrong, show me where such claims are made. Please.

I have responded to your posts because I feel it is important for Catholics to understand that the warning and the three days of darkness might happen–and that we can only accurately say they MIGHT happen.

BTW, I cannot (and will not) speak about the personal warning you claim to have received from our Lord. That is something you know, and I do not. However, I can speak to what is part of formal Church teachings, and what is not—and that is all I have done.

Submitted to you with love. 🙂

Praised be Jesus in every tabernacle of the world…

Friend, I am not here to correct you, but you are merely here to try to correct where no correction is needed. It is like the Pharisees and the Sadducees trying to correct what was given to Jesus from His Father in Heaven. No one knew, until after it happened. This is the same, I have been given “The Warning”. It hasn’t happened yet, but I have been given the merciful privilege of “The Warning”. You would try to prove your case with books and religious rhetoric and in this way, You make GOD to be so small as to believe that it is only in His Catholic Church that He speaks to mankind. Not so, we are ALL His children and unfathomable mercy is poured out to ALL His children, good and bad. Just because you quote religious rhetoric, it has no bearing in my faith in GOD because I know who I am, I am one of HIS children.

Jesus knew everything, before, during and after that the Pharisees and Sadducees tried to correct. Jesus has given me the privilege of “The Warning” and because there are people who are searching for the answers to this event, I give the answer where you give words from a book to correct because you believe differently. Your statement is only to stop the answer. I say to you: IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, SATAN, GET THEE BEHIND ME.

Again, your words are empty like wind that is cast off to the abyss.

Thank you. I now am much more clear on where you are coming from. Frankly, had you made this your first post to me, all of the other messages would not have been required.

Thanks again.

Not sure which one I was, but not any longer. Great line though. 🙂
Niether. The Lord doesn’t put up with this in a witness to His grace. I was spared in 2006 by the same type of illumination and under direction, learned it was partial as no one can stand and survive a full union as noted by the Church Dr.s. We are all in different phases of Christ’s revelation, given to each as needed and endured. This is in itself an act of mercy and to assume everyone is on the same page and to lord it over them is to bring judgement to themselves in varying degrees. But folks have to learn for themselves sometimes.
