Tim Tebow's dad wants to convert Catholics in the Philippines?

We certainly know what his dad thinks of Catholics in the Philippines:
The Philippines, a country comprised of over 7,100 islands, has historically been an area of abuse and conquest. Of the 86 million Filipinos, we estimate that over 65 million have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently, there are 41,949 barangays (villages), and 26,675 (64%) of them have no evangelical church of any kind. In recent years, there has been a tremendous movement of the Holy Spirit in the Philippines, resulting in an unusual spiritual responsiveness, and many Filipinos would believe in Jesus if they were just given the opportunity

Yeah, I’m pretty tired of hearing about him, too. But I would rather log on to the internet and see the words “Tim Tebow” instead of “Kardashian”!

Short of reading the entire site what does Tims father think about Catholics?. I didn’t see any thing negative on the first page of the site and that is as far as I read.

I for one am not tired of Tim Tebow. We need more young men like him who worship God and are not ashamed to do so in public.

Apples and oranges. You’re blaming Tim for what his father says/does. Are you personally responsible for everything your relatives say and do?

If I understand what you are trying to say here is that Mr. Tebow is insinuating that the Catholic Gospel is no gospel and the one that he is preaching is the only gospel?
The Philippines is a mostly Catholic country from what I understand. and maybe the out lying islands have not heard the gospel.

I am well aware that Protestants tear down Catholicism at every chance they get but I think you are putting words into Mr. Tebow’s mouth here and if he is trying to “convert” Catholics IF he gets any it will be because they didn’t believe the truth in the first place.

It’s an interesting conundrum, Tim Tebow.

On the lighter side, his clear integration of faith with his occupation makes for a fascinating examination on how (badly) journalists know or care about religion. Today, on CBS This Morning, the three anchors and a sports reporter spoke about Tim, alluding to but never referring to Christianity or God as they spoke of the influential football player. The word play was amusing, for Tebow’s actions make it very difficult to really separate his devotion from his play results or behavior. Websites such as GetReligion, which examine how journalists poorly or questionably report on news with religious elements, has several articles on this very point.

Tim, himself, is really a generous and caring man. He can shame many Catholics as he does as Christ instructs us: Faith is needed, but expressions of faith through the work you can do to help others is just as important.

However, on the darker side, Tim’s parent’s ministry throws a monkey wrench into complete support for him as a Catholic, since his father’s ministry is definitively anti-Catholic by practice.

Still, *some *expression of Christian faith in the public airwaves–and in such an open forum where it cannot be easily ignored, suppressed or dismissed–gives some mild cause for joy.
 
When he said he was building a hospital in the Philippines I initially thought “why”? It’s a poor country to be sure, but its not like we aren’t already doing that. You know, why not just join in the efforts that are already on-going? Anything else would create opposition and division.

I thought, protestants never go to the Islam or pagan countries, they always go to Catholic countries, and twist the gospel. It’s easier that way, piggybacking off our work.

Reading how they don’t think there are hardly any Christians there says they don’t consider Catholics as Christians. Usually, this leads to very anti-Catholic behavior. Usually.

First you admit that Philippines is mostly Catholic (in fact, 80% Catholic), then you defend Bob Tebow for saying that most Filipinos “have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ” by claiming that he was talking about the people in the “outlying islands” (there is no such thing as an “outlying island” in a country that has experienced three centuries of Spanish missionary activity). That a population can have two mutually exclusive majorities is truly a feat of arithmetic that I would very much like to learn how to calculate. :eek:

Given this, it’s not unreasonable to believe that Bob Tebow is insinuating something about Catholics, unless he has truly failed his arithmetic, in which case I’m sure the people he’s ministering to would be more than happy to teach him. 😃

Much as I believe that this topic could be possibly targeted more at Tim Tebow himself than his father, there’s no need to be so defensive of Bob Tebow when he insists on a misguided and offensive attitude towards Catholics. Tim Tebow should not have to share in his father’s sins unless he actually believes in them himself, and this topic is not about Tim Tebow.

I think I may be missing something out here about Tim Tebow himself since I do not follow American football, but it does seem clear that his father has some very questionable beliefs. The vibrancy of the Church in the Philippines is something you must experience for yourself, and only then will you understand the deep offense that Bob Tebow’s deeply incorrect and mindless statement causes to our Filipino brethren. 🙂

He is building a hospital in the phillipines with his dad. They are collusive.
 
I love hearing about Tim Tebow!
I really find the polarizing effect that he has on people to be quite fascinating!
Of course he is only a man, and like all men will stumble, and the people who are bothered by him are going to love it.

Drew Brees is another super successful NFL quarterback who is unafraid to display his faith in GOD.

I think the biggest plus about Tim Tebow is that he sets a positive example for all Christians to be more vocal about their faith. I wish more people, public figures and regular folks alike, would wear their faith on their sleeves like he does.
