To all evil spirits: I will not give you power anymore

… husband who did not participate in therapy, and perhaps you were counseled to get more therapy or even medical therapy. God is providing those avenues for you.

When my son had a much worse autism prognosis, I prayed to God for strength, I got angry at Him, then I realized and accepted this is the plan God has for me. However, I did not rely on God healing him because God put therapists in our life to help our journey. These were the angels that helped my son improve. In fact, they are still popping up in our life as my son matures. His needs change.

The beauty of God is that He often sends us those “two boats and a helicopter” to help us. We have to accept that help, even if we think it may be the wrong help. God ultimately knows best for you.

You are in a difficult spot. I will pray for you in adoration tonight. Be assured of that.
Stillhoping, you wrote (post 70):

Thank you for sharing your story and for your support. My daughter has dealt with this ADHD all her life and only now do we know. Regardless, she is a fighter but she fights a lot with me. I have been patient and other times offhanded. I will have to work on this.

Not really except my mom who said that I demonstrated some of these traits. I guess this is payback.

(emphases added by me)

I don’t have the light touch like Pocaracas. Like he said, there’s good news and what might look at first glance like bad news.

I telescoped my life story very much. I attended “healing prayers” at a gospel camp (general, not individual) and the following week on reviewing my collection of newspaper cuttings I hit upon and follwed up the writings of an autistic lady about autism and at the same time there was a spate of colleagues getting diagnosed dyslexic and having reasonable adjustments made. I was in my 40s. I didn’t discuss this with my parents whose house I had long left. But I am reflecting with hindsight on their point of view now that I have more light on it.

I didn’t know any of my grandparents nor did I dicuss these themes with uncles or aunts and it’s too late to quiz anyone unless I get round in future to picking my distant cousin’s brain or a younger friend of my aunt.

Reading between the lines of the occasional anecdote, I picture my Dad’s dad’s mum saying to him, don’t be like your father, get yourself on - there is a tale that the old man was an underachiever. My grandad did get himself on and those were boom years anyway. Nearly all my family members on both sides seem to have been “mildly eccentric” but I think there were bigger elements of non-acceptance on my Mum’s side which she most effectively revolted against.

In my young day I had a professor who had discretion to bend the marking system and after that. extra accommodating bosses even before it became a matter of reasonable adjustments.

There can be two clusters of things that pass along families, one is bodily - specific learning differences that vary from person to person, one is dyslexic, another is an Asperger, one has ADD, one is dyspraxic - and various combinations and variations. Absence seizures, intestinal differences, etc can go along with any of these. The other is subtly learned unacceptance: shame given (and this also comes big time from teachers and doctors of course), no matter how accompanied by the apparent opposite.

Since somewhat like attracts somewhat like (with variations) similar factors may be reflected a little in your DH’s background also.

This is to “smother” the three of you in huge acceptance and the highest esteem, didn’t I say you are all great survivors!

(HUGE = HUG)

So there is a two-pronged way to go:

I. Don’t despise the specific concretes:
  • which medicines exactly is it your DD wants to avoid - she knows her own body language better than anyone (you don’t have to discuss specific answers to this with us if you don’t want to because we aren’t giving health care advice. At most we can tell our own anecdotes)
  • what at the concrete practical level was it that the counsellor did with her that your DD took to
  • what possibilities can SpLD practitioners and/or workplace coaches offer in the near future
II. Think that you, your DD and your DH - and all your forebears - are “fearfully and wonderfully made” and the best thing in God’s creation since sliced bread.

So no, this is NOT payback. Recognise the roots of that false thinking. These discoveries are the outstanding best news of your lives (the 3 of you) ever!

I am giving the three of you a 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Note re family members and teachers etc -

I am not implying they are wicked, far from it, they are embarrassed, perhaps in the light of what attitude was unconsciously passed on to them, hence any mixed signals are simply a matter of papering over the cracks and not quite managing! :o

What you say is sort of true: nice people are nice people but not always because of what they believe. For example, a person who believes being nice includes killing you because it will relieve you from the struggle of this world. You and I might call that person “crazy” but that person may believe it’s part of his religion. A moral code is required to ensure we all act pretty much in consonance with each other or we’d be at war constantly with each other due to conflicting, individual codes of ethics.
I said “regardless” of what they believe.
Not because of what they believe…
There is a quote from Stephen Weinberg that atheists like to use - it’s not entirely accurate, but I can see it working in a few historical events (some are even rather recent… 9/11? ISIS?):
“With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion.”
I’m sorry to hear your parents divorced and even sadder to hear it was due to adultery.
I’ve overcome it… People will be people.
And you can’t choose your family, just work around it.
If your father was like my father, he must have been one of those tough, silent types; like Dirty Harry but nicer to his kids! You must have fond memories of growing up with such a dedicated father.
Silent kind, check!
All-controlling, check!
Fond memories, check!
Your experience kind of reminds me of my Catholic cultural shock when I realized my grandmother never read her Bible and I can’t even remember my mother owning a Bible let alone reading one in church. The generations before us practiced their faith differently and the church evolved. Those of us who kept up with the evolution know we do things differently now. LOL. It’s funny you mentioning it, though! I still see older people in church scolding the children “that’s NOT how it’s done!” Then I have to step in after and remind the kids to be patient!
We had a full bible at home, complete with illustrations and all… it was (and still is) a heavy book, hard cover, the works. Bigger and heavier than any dictionary I’ve ever had (from the time when dictionaries were on paper).
But it was seldom opened - it was more of a reference book (like a dictionary), than a mandatory reading.
I can empathize with your experience and understand how you can believe atheism.
May I offer a correction, here?
I don’t believe in atheism…that doesn’t make much sense, to me…
What does it mean to believe in atheism?

I simply don’t believe in any religion or divinity… hence, I am an atheist.

As an analogy, let’s replace all gods with all fairies.
Do I believe in afaerism when I say that I don’t believe that faeries exist? Or do I simply not believe they exist?
I came across this during college and kept telling myself “science can explain almost everything!” As I slowly learned, the more science explains the "how’, the more they don’t understand the “why”. God explains the why and for some that’s the most important answer in the universe. For example, there are sub-atomic forces that hold the atom together. Why? Why does time only move in one way?
I’ve learned that not all questions make sense.
That sort of “why” question presupposes a conscious intention… one that may not be there… rendering the “why” question senseless.

Please, please get checked out by each of your PCP or similar doctor. I think while we have all been through a “dark night of the soul” where the evil one wants our fate to continue down this path, you are describing something beyond demonic possession, I fear. At the very least, try talking to a priest, no necessarily in confession, to guide you.
PCP? You mean psychologist? Priests have no time. If they do they only offer you stuff you already know. I will give it a go anyway. I like to go to adoration and sit in quiet contemplation. I talk to Jesus and our Blessed Mother. Maybe I am crazy but this is my way of dealing with these kinds of situations. I offer my suffering and join them to Christ’s. I ask for strength and answers. I ask to heal my child.

What is worse than demonic possession? Firstly, she is not of course but I do feel a presence of something unnatural when these events happen. When I feel so hurt or rage or hate, I get sick literally.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I wish I could be as positive. What discoveries do you mean?

To answer your question, my daughter investigated medicines and found out that they have serious side effects; addiction is one. So no go there. I spent money on holistic supplements which she took for a little bit and it seem to work but she was not consistent therefore no real observation can be obtained.

Again thank you for your positive energy. God bless.

Understand that we are fallen. God knows are pain and He has given us the path He wants us to walk. However, God has not abandoned you. You have received good advice here, you had an unsupportive husband who did not participate in therapy, and perhaps you were counceled to get more therapy or even medical therapy. God is providing those avenues for you.

Bless you and thank you for your prayers. I will pray for you too. I will bring her to get help, pray that she accepts it. She is proud like her father. They never need anyone else or so it seems.

In all Christian charity, God put helpers on Earth for us to use if need be. Even St. Luke was a doctor, and he used the medical resources available to him to help people in addition to ******** prayer.

I have to admit that I am having trouble with the demonic possession you seem to continually bring up. I agree, there is nothing worse than that. However, I think there are medical avenues you can follow to help you understand what is happening.

Certainly when I see my son suffer from bullying, my husband and I suffer too. We offer our suffering for the souls in purgatory, as does my son. However, that does not replace essential medical help he needs for his disability. God led us to wonderful people who can help DS. This has allowed all of us to grow closer to God in thanksgiving for being able to provide these therapies for him. God gave us the resources to help son. We could have rejected them, but we felt God was sending a clear message that there were people who could help son if we chose to sacrifice creature comforts to pay for his care.

I feel God has smiled on our decision, as we have a son who is pious, respectful and discerning a vocation. We were told he would never live an independent life. Now, we believe he will live a remarkable life. He still needs therapy, but he has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

I hope this post brings you some comfort. God’s blessings to you.

Humbly submitted, not all medicines are bad or addictive. I honestly think a physician should sit down with you and daughter and examine the pros and cons of each medication being considered. There are many different treatment that can work and completely change a person’s life without worry about a side effect that may never manifest itself.

Just something to think about.

… They never need anyone else or so it seems.
Then they will discover surprising things about their gifts and talents and those of the other family members and forebears in their own time and God’s, so I pray.

The three of you can prioritise whatever areas you like.

My workplace coach plugged a particular stimulant (without putting any pressure on me) which idea I didn’t take up and in the end about ten years later I piped up and asked my GP for a specific “anticonvulsant” which has turned out something of a miracle drug but that’s just me. Meantime I have got into mind mapping, colour coding, lots of neat shelves and stand-up boxes - simple things to structure my surroundings and structure information and structure time. At one stage there were extra people in my life helping with structure-giving things. I have dared to pursue a favourite hobby as time has permitted, which previously I was too bemused to do.

A wonderful phrase and idea the same coach introduced me to is to “Chunk it down”.

It warms my heart to hear that your son is doing well and that he is pious. I wish it with all my heart for my children. I will leave that in God’s hands. All I could do is support, guide, and teach them. I cannot control them or demand anything. Pray for my Dh to become more collaborative. Thank you and God Bless.

I found this catholic site about demonic activity among us and a prayer for deliverance from all forms of evil.

catholicbible101.com/spiritualwarfare.htm

PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE

My Lord, You are all powerful, You are God, You are Father. We beg You through the intercession and help of the archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel, for the deliverance of our brothers and sisters who are enslaved by the evil one. All saints of heaven, come to our aid.

From anxiety, sadness, and obsessions, We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From hatred, fornication, envy, We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From thoughts of jealousy, rage, and death. We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From every thought of suicide and abortion. We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From every form of sinful sexuality. We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From every division in our family, and every harmful friendship. We beg You: Free us, O Lord. From every sort of spell, malefice, witchcraft, and every form of the occult. We beg You: Free us, O Lord.

Lord, You Who said, “I leave you peace, my peace I give you,” grant that, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, we may be liberated from every evil spell and enjoy Your peace always. In the Name of Christ, our Lord. Amen."

Have you ever considered that neither you or your daughter are suffering from evil but instead from overwhelming life issues that are may need to be managed by a doctor, in particular a psychiatrist? It is no sin to take medicines that make you feel better. I am just sad that the answer seems to be in front of you.

The fact that you do not have a supportive husband is very troubling and only adds confusion and lack of support to the mix. This would also be something perhaps your child’s doctor) can speak to him directly about.

Divorce is hard on all parties. I am sad you are suffering?

Hi,

As you know, I tried that avenue and my daughter is not interested. I told her to look into it and see if there are alternatives or at least take the meds when she has exams or essays to write for school. This can help her concentration and her confidence level.

I find it hard to have to struggle with my family. DH is wonderful now and even he is beginning to believe that meds would help. This week I have an appointment with my children’s doctors for their annual check up. I will mention this and see if there are new meds to treat this problem.

I want to let the posters understand that this is a medical condition but her hostility and rage is beyond her condition; she is filled with animosity and a fierce self-defense mechanism. Though, in the last few months it has calmed down until now. I don’t know if there are other medical issues that provoke this behavior such as hormonal imbalance and anemia. Either way, my instinct at that moment felt a malevolent presence and I don’t mean possession I mean violence and strife as though it was fanning the flames of our anger. It is like this, you go to adoration and pray for someone sick and you feel God’s Spirit fill you with peace. Now, take this image and completely twist it the opposite way.

OP, I think I may have crossed kids that sound like your daughter. It is a sad commentary that her dad is not taking his role in her care.

I don’t know how old your daughter is, but is she now of age where she can make her own medical decisions? Do you remember a time when she was better? Did she suddenly get worse? Could the divorce have played a major impact?

Immediately in our life, my son’s two closest friends–ages 12 and 13–are losing their dad to pancreatic cancer, Stage IV. Their mom is pregnant with change of life twins. We all have seen immense changes in both boys since the June diagnosis. One is sanguine, the other is starting to lash out. It’s not helping that mom is on edge and yells constantly. I have been trying to take the boys, help the family with financial planning, plus visit the dad in rehab. Actually, all 3 of us have, but I have the lead role because DH works and DS is in school.

However, OP, it sounds like you are also taxed to your limit where your body is so tense and your mind racing that you cannot prepare yourself for adoration. If you daughter is like my son, she can sense that tenseness. When I am like that, my son blames himself. Might she be? Does she harbor personal guilt from your divorce?

I think all these avenues need to be explored to gather as much data to get a complete picture. It will require patience, and life may get a little worse for a while, but I think it may be worth it.

I am really praying for you!

God bless you family.

Hi,

First, thank you for offering prayers on my behalf. Second, I am not divorced!? I don’t know what I wrote that gave that impression. I did want to separate and leave but we are not divorced and still live together. Furthermore, I do go to adoration on occasion but is was the Eucharistic mass that we were not going to. Also, she is of age where she decides if she wants to take the medicine or not. She does sense any negative emotion I may have and she reacts aggressively even if I am calm.

This requires much patience on my part and I am hoping to get some professional help soon. Until then I need a lot of prayers and support. Thank you and God bless.

Perhaps I obviously wrongly assumed that DH was not actively involved in decision making. Does he have a demanding job? That may be it. I’m sorry about that. Please be assured of my prayers! God bless.

I believe I don’t understand your language:o. What do you mean Chunk it down?
See whether there are actually issues which can be attended to without having to deal with other issues.

What we have established so far is that your DD doesn’t want to take the particular medicines that have been prescribed so far. She knows jolly well that either they don’t suit her or that there are far more important issues overdue for attention. Fine.

It is possible to have a bodily condition and look for things to help without giving up looking just because a medication avenue is not affording progress in present circumstances.

Among many potential angles I don’t get enough of a feel for from your posts are:
  • what chances are you, your DH and her grandparents giving her to express her own (name removed by moderator)ut to her studying and living arrangements e.g:
    • does she wear fabrics that aren’t comfortable,
    • are there particular subjects, study areas, religious practice and living questions where she has suffered put-downs from priests, nuns, teachers or grandparents in the past (which undermines their credibility),
    • does she like shelves and boxes (some housekeepers don’t allow things like those),
    • does she like colours,
    • is the TV on in the house too much (it does addle brains)
    • what was it the “counsellor” did with her that she liked!
    • what fumes are around the house and school? (traffic fumes are probably not of importance)
    • is the study schedule and timetable right for her?
    • how much has she tried mind mapping and does she even have a stock of A3 paper?
  • what does your daughter think about other possible medications she herself may have heard of (don’t let anyone suggest one in case that comes over to her as pressure) (this is to be put way down the priority list). If she can’t think of any at the moment the medication issue may be regarded as CLOSED until and unless SHE wants to reopen it.
Maybe an angry priest told your great-grandmother in 1920 that her descendants have all got to be moralistic instead of practical!

I well remember the pressures of being 18. I “coped” by becoming more or less catatonic. Those were hippy days anyway.

-what chances are you, your DH and her grandparents giving her to express her own (name removed by moderator)ut to her studying and living arrangements e.g:
Enough chances that she can study what she likes and live with relatives but must understand that there are rules to respect wherever you go.
    • does she wear fabrics that aren’t comfortable
,
    • are there particular subjects, study areas, religious practice and living questions where she has suffered put-downs from priests, nuns, teachers or grandparents in the past (which undermines their credibility),
Probably me and maybe a teacher or peers
    • does she like shelves and boxes (some housekeepers don’t allow things like those),
    • does she like colours,
    • is the TV on in the house too much (it does addle brains)

I could tell you certain things but I don’t see the relevance. What is mind mapping and A3 paper?
Maybe an angry priest told your great-grandmother in 1920 that her descendants have all got to be moralistic instead of practical!
Even if that happened, how does it pertain to my child today.

When I want to plan my life I get a big sheet of paper and a pencil, and draw a spider diagram with legs and toes and I label the legs and toes with the various practical ramifications of life.

That can sometimes show interrelationships easier than if I use continuous prose.

If I keep the sheet handy I can refer back to it in my own time and ensure I don’t forget some of the things once thought of, and can also later add more practical matters to the “spider”.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map

Has your daughter been introduced to this technique? It might not stop life happening to her, but it creates mental space by assisting visual memory and by giving one permission to acknowledge to oneself one’s own concretes.

In my own experience, success in my learning differences has been a matter of taking charge of my various practicalities at my own pace (much of this was with the support of a workplace coach). Then gradually the evil spirits started to take care of themselves.

Starting to know these things was the direct result of healing prayers (when I was 42).
