St.Eric:
You are begininng to sound like a Judaizer. Paul specifically preaches against their practices.
You know, we’re actually getting somewhere. By that, I mean you or Catholics in this forum have just admitted to 2 things.
  1. There is commandment that states "You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath (i.e. Deuteronomy 4:16 “…any likeness of male or female”).
  2. And, that the Sabbath was changed by the RCC from Saturday to Sunday.
This may not concern you, but there are literally millions of Catholics who do not know these 2 facts and will be very surprised. Let’s be honest, how many Catholics have a copy of the CCC?

Again, you sadly misunderstand the facts and have drawn conclusions that are not true.

The RCC has not changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Saturday still is the 7th day…and Sunday is when Christians came together to celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ from early church times!

If you are going to draw conclusions then you owe it to yourself to research the subject thoroughly.

Why does the Vatican leave out the graven images part.
You have been posting this over and over again. And this false claim has been answered over and over again–yet you refuse to respond.
Let me see if I can clarify this for you.
  1. I am the LORD your God:
    you shall not have
    strange Gods before me.

This means no graven images.

And so now I must ask you a question. What on earth are you talking about?

JSmitty2005:
I have yet to meet someone that advertises their knowledge of Catholicism that actually has a real knowledge of Catholicism. They just assume, because they were once Catholic, that they must have known it all.
I see this all too often–and it saddens me. :crying:

It would help to do a bit of reading and inform yourself instead of running away from the Church due to some skewed information.
This article helps explain about the difference in the Ten Commandments.

Thank you Dorothy, However, it supports my claim about the 2 different versions of the Ten Commandments. It also supports my claim that only the Traditional Formula is taught and learned “in the order as we still know it from the Catechism.”

The 10 Commandments that were taken down were not the same as the ones we memorize or “learned in childhood.”

Just curious, why do you think they removed the original and replace it with the version from the Catechism? Why not leave God’s law as given by moses intact?

8. You shall not bear false witness
against your neighbor.

Are you serious? “Strange” means all of Exodus 20:4-6. So where did “strange” come from? The original says “no other gods before me.” Does that mean Catholics are allowed not so strange God’s? Why the change? Was it necessary for better understanding by the early church? “No other” is very explicit and final. “Strange” sort of leaves the door open for “not-so-strange”.

Alfie:
Correct me if I am wrong but I don’t read anything in the Eucharist about repenting of ones sin. The Holy Spirit will not come into a dirty container (human). The container must be cleaned first by repentance.
I haven’t read this entire thread, so sorry if this was already replied to. That’s because repenting and asking for forgiveness for our sins is always already done at the very beginning of mass before we even get to the readings.-

Mickey, exactly how am I bearing false witness against my neighbor?

Strange–as in different. As in a pagan god (or gods) other than our Father.
Are you serious?

Dorothy, I’m not drawing any conclusions. I’m not the one who said the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday. I’m only restating what St. Eric said about the Sabbath. Isn’t St. Eric Catholic?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. So is it safe to assume you’re okay with the Catholic church changing the first Commandment from “no other god’s” to “strange god’s”?

So where did “strange” come from?
The Bible. 😉

Deuteronomy 31:16: And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you are about to sleep with your fathers; then this people will rise and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.

Deuteronomy 32:16: They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominable practices they provoked him to anger.

2 Esdras 1:6: that the sins of their parents have increased in them, for they have forgotten me and have offered sacrifices to strange gods.

There was no change. Read above post. 😉

Mickey, those aren’t the commandments as given by God in Exodus or Deuteronomy. Here’s a convenient link for you so you can see what the Vatican has on that vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm

For continually misrepresenting the Catholic Church. Let us hope you are doing this out of ignorance instead of some type of sour grapes. 😦

You have posted this about 1/2 dozen times now. This non-issue you are trying to make is insulting. You asked where the word “strange” comes from–now you know. It is all the Word of God–it is all divinely inspired. Your false accusations, by attempting to use a vatican website to make said accusation, is a big joke. I reccommend that you cease and desist your incessant Catholic bashing–it is not very becoming. 😦

Mickey, Is the Catechism of the Catholic Church divinely inspired?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church is derived from Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the magisterial teaching of the Catholic Church. But as a former Catholic, you already know this. 😉

Mickey,

Looks like it is your turn. Have fun! I have completly exhausted the topic. At this point I think it may be wise to “shake the dust from your (our) feet.” Only God can penetrate a hardened heart.
