Hooray! I finally found some (imported) flour 🍞 🥖
French cheese is, err, it’s own thing.
You can say that again.

On the bright side, after nearly twenty years of living in France my immune system has never been more robust 😀

You can’t hold a negotiation, whatever the subject, publicly. It’s like laying all of your cards face up on the table playing poker.
There needs to be more straight talk in my opinion. Trust is the only way to oil the machine. Cant play poker when you’re trying to trade with someone. That’s their whole problem. Both sides! The debt, the swamp; the corruption!

Negotiation is pretty much poker.

In the particular case of negotiating with the ChiCom government, it is with an entity for which everyone else’s destruction and/or submission is an avowed purpose, and for which “truth” means “that which benefits the party leadership.”

They see those who think they are acting in good faith as “useful idiots.”

We can be reasonably open and forthcoming with, for example, Canada

and England. Basically, “you sell us yours, and we’ll sell you ours.”

The Husband has discovered that the facial recognition on his iPhone doesn’t work anymore and suspects that it’s due to his hair being unusually long 🤣

My gosh! Then how have we been trading with these guys for so long? Then again… they do accept our trash.
So, we give them our fiat dollars, the chinese people take the dollars and exchange it into yuan from their gov. Then their gov takes these dollars and buys US bonds, right?

He has something similar but is afraid to use it because he thinks he’ll make a mess of things. 😬

Yeah, I can’t convince him. Makes me wonder why he bought the set in the first place.

His excuse reasoning today is that his barber will be open again in less than two weeks and he can wait until then 😛

In short: they offer a lower price for production and build it–in the process stealing the technology, which they use to sell something else to someone who adds a bit more to steal, and . . .

Then they enter an agreement with us not to steal any more tech, our president du jour announces the achievement, while they laugh and move to the next bit to steal . . . and then yet another sucker enters the cycle, making us wonder if Lenin was right about the rope . . .

meanwhile, they slap heavy tariffs on anything imported from us, to build up the next industry . . .

it’s unhealthy all around.

And to be clear, I’m not letting either party off the hook on this—both have put the positive press of the deal, and so forth, ahead of even the medium term, let alone the one term on this.

I was finally able to locate toilet paper recently at my local Sam’s Club, although it was the store brand (Members Mark or something like that). At this point, beggars can’t be choosers, so I gladly bought it (limit 1 big package with several rolls in it). I normally buy Charmin.

My son also shared with us some of his recently purchased disinfectant wipes that he bought at Wally World.

My wife volunteered to cut my hair after reminding me she had done so when we were poor college students many moons ago. She did a good job and saved me $30. Where has this lovely lady of hidden talents been all my life? 😀

The haircut thing is crazy. I’m getting a haircut at a barbershop tomorrow and they want a literal memo saying I’m an essential worker.

Wow, that is interesting. Are they suggesting only “essential” people need a haircut?

I guess? Or just people who have to do work in person as opposed to remotely.

Already starting to 😀. Not bad. I’ve used worse and it definitely is better than nothing 👍
They have two house brands at Sam’s. There’s the Charmin knockoff variety (much softer) and the public-restroom variety. We switched from the public restroom variety a couple years ago to the Charmin knockoff. It’s more expensive but well wroth it.

The Charmin knockoff version is the one I found and am using, at least I think it is. It’s softer and reminds me of Charmin, but not exactly — kind of like RC Cola reminds me of Coca Cola but not quite the same.
