Why not both?
You would need to have standing to consider that. Could you demonstrate how girl scout cookies lead to some “injury”?Remind me to sue our local Girl Scout troop. “Girl Scout Cookies help support discrimination.”
I can’t think of anything. I was a boy scout myself. Perhaps from a certain perspective wood working or other skills are not considered appropriate for a girl (?). But I think that is more of a 1950s perspective. I can’t think of much.I am starting to wonder what Boy Scouts do that is actually boy specific. Can you guys help me out? Where, in the Boy Scout programs, is there anything that applies only to boys, or is inappropriate for girls?
That was then:
Quite frankly, as someone who actually has lived both then and now, I have to say that I strongly prefer now, and am happy that my boys got to grow up now, rather than when I did. Things were not a bed of roses back then, and it was no golden age. This is now:
You do realize they don’t do that in Girl Scouts, either, right? What it was:
But I want to also point out that these different interests are not so different now. Also, interests have no gender (in other words, doing something is not a girl or a boy thing, it’s just an activity for whoever that enjoys them). Until people can accept that, I feel like this sort of tension will be prevalent for a long time? More girls are interested in the Boy Scouts because they think it’s better than the girl scouts. If it was a lot more interesting and appealing to the girls of this generation, things would be different. A little at least.I think that it is sad that that is somehow looked at as being wrong.
They didn’t change that. The orginization now facilitates both groups. That’s it.What I think is crazy is that there cannot be a group for boys. A group for girls. No, they are different, and they do different things. I am not going to get into a whole gender role/interest thing. There are always children that are interested in what the other sex is involved in. But for the most part, they have different interests. I think that it is sad that that is somehow looked at as being wrong.
What I also think is sad is that troops need to be changed or accommodating for the convenience of the family that is waiting for their son. It’s not family scouts, it’s Boy Scouts, well, it used to be. And Girl Scouts did totally different things as well before they had a feminist political agenda.
