I wonder how well “Gender/Sex Unspecified” cookies would sell?

Thanks! And sorry, I just realized that CAF somehow went crazy (or I did) and had a totally different quoted text than I intended when responding… I fixed that now because I was originally intending to respond to the situation of your sons’ troops being (and potentially remaining) all male.

That was then:

This is now:

Remind me to sue our local Girl Scout troop. “Girl Scout Cookies help support discrimination.”
You would need to have standing to consider that. Could you demonstrate how girl scout cookies lead to some “injury”?
I am starting to wonder what Boy Scouts do that is actually boy specific. Can you guys help me out? Where, in the Boy Scout programs, is there anything that applies only to boys, or is inappropriate for girls?
I can’t think of anything. I was a boy scout myself. Perhaps from a certain perspective wood working or other skills are not considered appropriate for a girl (?). But I think that is more of a 1950s perspective. I can’t think of much.

When I was a boy scout my sister participated. Not that she was a scout. But she was present with a group of boys doing something so she did it too. Only she didn’t get a badge for it.

Good grief.

I have 3 Eagle Scout brothers.

My father led the troop.

The boys still get their own space from ages 11 onwards. Their are no mixed adolescent troops. If girls want their own they can have one.

All that is changed is that the sisters who were dragged along to every event and allowed to participate during the Cub Scout years just get uniforms and included. It’s not a drop off program. For many places it’s a community gathering when children are young. Maybe not in cities but when it takes a half hour to get to a two hour meeting parents just tend to hang around and chat and the sisters often do many of the activities.

What people don’t understand is that even well run Girl Scout troops stink in comparison to what the boys do.

The only crazy thing about this is the news reporting. There aren’t going to be Jamboree orgies because the actual boy scouts–boys 11 to 17 are remaining the same as they every were.

You know what’s funny? That this move actually serves young families better. It means that parent aren’t going to hesitate to put Johnny in scouts and try to find something for little Suzie to do. It means that parents stay involved when the children are young–which is highly appropriate. It means more family-oriented activities and a better chance for those families who are broken to see healthy families in action. And this ONLY changes for children 10 and under.

The agenda of those trying to make this move into a “toxic effeminacy” feminist plot need to chill. You know where you want your daughters if you want them to be toxic? Girl scouts.

What I think is crazy is that there cannot be a group for boys. A group for girls. No, they are different, and they do different things. I am not going to get into a whole gender role/interest thing. There are always children that are interested in what the other sex is involved in. But for the most part, they have different interests. I think that it is sad that that is somehow looked at as being wrong.

What I also think is sad is that troops need to be changed or accommodating for the convenience of the family that is waiting for their son. It’s not family scouts, it’s Boy Scouts, well, it used to be. And Girl Scouts did totally different things as well before they had a feminist political agenda.

Well, but, to an extent, it’s also genetic.

Men are on average stronger faster and more physical than women, making them better soldiers and football players, but not nessecarily better hairstylists.

Women, on the other hand, can see more shades of color than men (evolutionary advantage from our hunter-gatherer days), are better at conflict resolution, and are more nutruting (again, genetic)

Sure, we shouldnt shoehorn people into groups they dont want to be in, but
ITS NOT A BAD THING TO SAY MEN AND WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT BUT EQUAL. MUTURAL COMPLIMENTARITY

I find it annoying that the solution is to let girls in rather than make the Girl Scouts less…lame.

But I want to also point out that these different interests are not so different now. Also, interests have no gender (in other words, doing something is not a girl or a boy thing, it’s just an activity for whoever that enjoys them). Until people can accept that, I feel like this sort of tension will be prevalent for a long time? More girls are interested in the Boy Scouts because they think it’s better than the girl scouts. If it was a lot more interesting and appealing to the girls of this generation, things would be different. A little at least.

Or… it’s about letting the children who don’t know how to “identify themselves” - girl or boy or both - in. And since the Boy Scouts were the cooler organization they are the ones to be re-defined. Probably this means Girl Scouts is programmed to extinction is it does not need re-branding.

They didn’t change that. The orginization now facilitates both groups. That’s it.
