Recently I visited a Catholic family who wished for me to view their private chapel within their home.
The chapel was actually the largest room in their home and contained life size statues
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Fatima, a altar, 5 foot long crucifix, stations of the cross and numerous other statues of saints. Also the chapel had several prayer
kneeler’s.
When I asked them where they attended Holy Mass they replied that they refuse to go to
any Mass for many years now, as they believe all Masses are invalid.
They suggested I do the same, and gave me their reasons why.
I told them that this is not how I would wish to honor my Catholic faith, and that there are
many Catholic churches that do not embrace modernism fully.
I am curious as to how many Catholics do the same form of worship in this country, with just remaining in their private chapel in their home only, and not receiving the Body and the
Blood of Jesus?
This was a unique experience for me indeed.

That’s sad. Not too many I think, and hope.

In reality they are not Catholics. They don’t believe in the Magisterium.

God Bless

They are in a very serious state of mortal sin. Pray for them - they need all the help they can get.

As Bilop said, they are certainly not catholics in good standing. They are acting no differently (just more quietly) than those “Reformers” of the 16th Century. They are refusing to obey the rightful authority of The Church.

I’m sure there are many who stopped going to mass after VII, I am also sure that few have set up elaborate Chapels in their own homes.

I would have to inform them that, while I may have issues with the liturgy as currently celebrated, the Magiserium and Holy Father in Rome has authorized it and declared it valid. The Holy Father has also declared valid the TLM or EF. I am a faithful servent of Christ and the Chair of Peter and will not endanger my soul through prideful and willful disobedience of Christ in His Church. And I would advise them to refrain from doing same.

If they are still talking to them at this point, I would suggest to them that their opinions and desires would be better served IN their local church community than just in their home. If we want more reverent Masses we have to work to get them. If we want to have a TLM offered at our parish we need to request it. Hiding in their “Chapel” is no solution at all.

All masses are invalid, huh?

I wonder if they’ve even HEARD of the Eastern Catholic Churches.

What would they say about them?

There are an extremely small number of Catholics who believe that the Western Church fell into heresy and believe the last “true” Pope was either Pius XII or John XXIII (some also say John XXIII was a valid Pope for a time, but fell into heresy when he convened the Second Vatican Council). These people are lost, the only thing you can do is give them Charity, and Prayers, and that’s about it. Some of these people incorrectly compare themselves to the martyrs of ancient Rome who were prohibited from public worship and as a result could only pray in private. These people are generally part of the CMRI (the Thuc-line Bishops). The CMRI however probably does not have any validity because Thuc consecrated without a co-consecrator and had lost control of his mental abilities by the end of VII, making him unable to form a proper intent.

The SSPV is a group which believes that the validity of the Church is still an open question, but they’re generally regarded as Sedevacanists. Because they are also from the Thuc-line they’re validity is generally questioned.

However some people confuse these wackos with laypeople who frequent masses offered by the SSPX.

The SSPX recognizes all the current Popes and Lefebvre himself thought very lowly of the Sedevacanists. He also recognized the Second Vatican Council as valid (he himself signed the documents) but thought that the interpretations were flawed. The SSPX also recognizes the validity of the New Mass and Sacraments (there have been Priests ordained in the NO who were not reordained when they entered the SSPX) but views them as harmful to Catholic tradition ergo they believe it should be abolished and encourage people not to attend. The SSPX is unquestionably valid because Lefebvre ordained with a co-consecrator and they do not hold any manifest heresies (such as Sedevacanism, a direct heresy which is contrary to Vatican I’s declaration on perpetual Petrine succession). The Pope also recognizes them as valid but canonically irregular, which means they do not contract marriage validly.

Good reason why we need the EF Mass in every parish along side the OF. I don’t attend Mass either, mainly because every parish locally where I live doesn’t give a thought to the EF Mass or EF Calendar. So why should I give a thought to their form or calendar. We could co-exist if the parishes offered both. But they don’t. They tell us brick by brick. But where I live, the bricks haven’t even been made yet. And won’t be for along time, unless the Pope gets more firm on the situation. This is my reason!. We should have a special dispensation made by the diocese that if there are Catholics who are not able to attend the form they wish locally, less than 25 miles away, are allowed a spiritual communion till one is present. But instead the OF will be forced down are throats and we will be made to feel guilty and be accused by not accepting the OF, while the mainstream will outright refuse the EF and no harm done. The only type of pastor I have now is Fr Zuhlsdorf, of WDTPRS. My cyber pastor.

Unfortunately, it grieves me to share one of their numerous reasons for making
this choice many years ago. One of the statements they stated that stands out in my
mind is their belief that the last three Popes of The Church, including the current Holy
Father,were/are not true Popes.
They totally believe these untruths, and the more I tried to state differently, the more
vehement and agitated their stance became.
It was, all in all, a very tense and troubling experience.to say the least.

They sound like Sedavacantists. Yeah it is sad. So next time when your at your Sunday Mass, and you hear all those guitars, see all the altar girls, lay people handing out communion. Than think of them, and their situation. You may understand better.

This that you are describing is called “prelest” or “spiritual delusion.”

If they refuse to attend the Eucharistic Sacrifice, they cannot be called traditional anything.

There are no guitars, nor altar girls at our Church during Holy Mass.

Not passing judgement on their choice, yet I found it surprising, as I had never spoken
to anyone personally that worships in this manner.

It was good to read some of the posts here that shed some light on this.

The above is generally true. The CMRI originally were followers of Frances Shuckard (Sp?) who was a lay leader in the Blue Army, claimed to have been consecrated in a Hotel Room by Old Catholics, and then ended up with a small group of followers who called him the only bishop of the Catholic Church. CMRI Bishop Pirvianus was consecrated by Bp. Carmona of Mexico who’s consecration by Thuc is generally held to be valid by Rome. His previous consecrations of the Palmar de Troya in Spain were held invalid due to the Rite which was written by the “Holy Palmar”.

SSPV Bp Kelley was consecrated by Bp Mendez (former president of Notre Dame) the consecration was held secretly and not announced until after Mendez’ death.

SSPV questions the validity of the Thuc consecrations, and the Thuc bishops question the Mendez consecrations, niether recognize the other.

The “Home Aloners” for the most part follow the ideas expressed in an earlier post that were put forward by Mel Gibson’s father, (Hutton Gibson) who came up with the idea that you can’t be sure of the validity of any priest who was ordained after Vatican II, that Cardinal Siri was elected in 1958, and after accepting the election, was intimidated into giving up the Papacy. He was according to the conspiracy theorists also elected in the conclave that elected Pope Paul VI. (even though he denied he had been elected at either conclave). Hutton Gibson has also denied that the Holocaust ever took place.

wrong forum, wrong title, this belongs in non-Catholic religions, as it discusses the beliefs and practices of persons who have formally renounced allegience to the Catholic faith

Correct forum. Talking about traditional Catholics who need spiritual guidance. I could also argue that there are many clergy and faithful, who have secretly renounced their Catholic faith and are preaching liberal ideologies from the Catholic pulpit and in the mainstream press!. So give me a break!!.

I highly doubt Father Z would approve of you considering him your “cyber pastor”. Since you are missing your obligation to attend Mass, you are not receiveing communion even once and year, and you have not been to penance (I assume) even once a year, you are living very dangerously. I will pray that you see the error of your ways and return to the ONE, Holy, and Apostolic Church.

Liberal, non-believing priests are frustrating, I agree.

But, so are self-righteous puritans who place themselves above the Magisterium.

Two sides of the same coin. Equally deplorable.

How is it acceptable that those who hold the view the “OF” is damnable cannot stand the same criticism being directed at them. IOW, if you are a Traditionalist, you somehow have the authority to be uncharitable and judgemental, but, consider it an abomination if the same scrutiny is directed at yourself.

I wonder if this is what The Lord meant when He mentioned seven demons later returning to a house rid of one demon. The “liberal” practioner may be in error, but, the self-righteous puritan is guilty of elevating himself above the Church itself.
