Traditional Catholics Who Do Not Attend Mass?

What, I’m missing my obligation to attend Mass. True their is no EF Masses in my locality. I pray that the clergy sees their error and starts following the Holy fathers reforms, rather than the progressivists reforms. By offering both forms of the Roman Rite. So we can meet our obligations.
What you’re missing is Mass & then when you do go to Mass do you receive the Body & Blood of Christ without the sacrament of penance? Or do you go to confession to SSPX where the Holy Father stated that SSPX cannot confer the sacrament of reconciliation? Either way that is sacrilegious and thus the cycle begins. Another deception conceived out of the very bowels of hell. Grace cannot abide under such conditions. The only thing you are saying is the same thing everyone else says that refuses to go to church: They are just a bunch of hypocrites. The difference between the semantics is that self-deception of holiness. There is nothing holy about receiving Holy Communion in the sate of mortal sin. While all we hear are arguments about theology & documents & the complexity of the issues this is basic catechism.
In essence to not attend Mass is abandoning Jesus at the cross.

So good to see PuzzleAnnie back hard at work trying to get the ducks on this forum in a row. A full time job, no doubt. Somebody needs to take on the spelling mistakes.

PS What does IOW mean??? (Instead of weeping???)
PPS Yes, still alive. One kidney removed that had cancer. But all healed now.

I agree completely that both forms of the Latin Rite Mass should be offered. And I am blessed to live in an area where I have a choice and both relatively convenient to me. However, just because you do not have an EF close to you does not mean that your obligation to attend Mass is excused. That is the cross you have to bear.

Find the most bearable OF Mass and start attending every week. I would suggest attending the early morning Sunday Masses at several parishes, usually those are the most simple and may not have music at all. Very few teenagers in shorts and flip flops are likely to be up bothering you then either. Simply go, offer up your discomfort, and know that you are following God.

The precepts of the church have not changed and our obligation to be at Sunday Mass have never been waived. Confess your sin of not attending and realize that part of it stems from pride. Yes, the bishop may be stubborn in not offering it, but he will have to answer for his own sins. You can only worry about your own.
Do you really think that will solve my spiritual problems. Should I bring my iPod so I can hear Gregorian chant in my ears vs guitar or contemporary music. How can I kneel to receive communion, if the altar rails are non existent. Do you really think I will get along with the priest, if we have two opposing views in regards to Mass. Boy I will really fit into the community. Confess my sin to a priest who hates the EF Mass and Pope Benedict’s XVI liturgical reforms. Like I said before these are the same progressivist excuses I have heard before. We should reverse the roles. Tell the progressivists that they need to go to an EF Mass to meet their Sunday obligation. I know it will be pretty tough for them, not being able to give out communion, like priests do. Or have to sit through Gregorian Chant or proper liturgical music. And worse, smell incense!. Nay I’ll wait to an EF comes to my locality. My cross will be waiting for the EF Mass to return, like we’ve been waiting for 30 some odd years.

If you voluntarily avoid attending the Eucharistic Sacrifice just because you don’t like the Pauline Missal, you are technically committing a mortal sin.

And if your attitude and actions are typical of SSPX clergy and seminarians, no wonder people consider the SSPX to be schismatic.
Are you really Orthodox, meaning Eastern Orthodox, or a Roman Catholic?.

It was a mortal sin when the progressivists changed the Mass.

So your personal preference for the EF overrides your obligation as a Catholic to attend Mass?

Why do you feel the need to set conditions on what Mass you attend? Both the EF and OF are valid forms sanctioned by the Church. That you prefer the EF is great, but to demand the Church cater to you and your “faction” or else you’ll sit out in protest is nothing but disrespectful at the very least.

By your own statement, your faith is based on what you “feel is right,” and not on what the Church teaches. That’s exactly what Luther and his pals did.

This whole attitude just makes my blood pressure go up. This is no different than anyone else who rejects the Church for whatever reason.

“I don’t like xxxx, therefore I’m not going to Mass/joining a Protestant Church/not going to Confession, etc, etc.”

It’s all the same. It’s selfish and shallow. I am praying to understand and praying for patience.
No!. I am supporting the EF Mass. My faith is based on the centuries of Catholic tradition, before the 20th century changed everything.
My blood pressure goes up when I see what the progressivists went ahead and did to those traditions, to cater to modern day thinking and theology.
It was Protestant, what they did. What was the first thing Cramner did. He attacked the liturgy. Simplified it!, to meet the liberation theology he believed in. The Mass as it was wasn’t good enough for him.
It is far from selfish. It is standing up for centuries old Catholic tradition and following it. And not giving in to a changing tradition, but supporting an un-changing tradition. An un-changing tradition that will be passed on to our children.
Do you think the Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox would put up with and support replacing their centuries old liturgies, with a new simplified liturgy. No!. It defeats, what it means to have and follow an un-changing tradition.

No!. I am supporting the EF Mass.
No, you are rejecting a valid form of the Mass approved by the Church, not just “progressives.”
My faith is based on the centuries of Catholic tradition, before the 20th century changed everything.
As a Catholic, it should also be based on the teachings of the Church today, not just those before the 20th Century? By your statements, you implicitly reject the teaching of the Magisterium. You’ve essentially stated that you know the faith better than the Bishops.
My blood pressure goes up when I see what the progressivists went ahead and did to those traditions, to cater to modern day thinking and theology.
That’s clearly your opinion, and you are entitled to it…that is unless you want to be Catholic. On who’s authority do you base your interpretation of “proper” traditions, and those that are merely catering to “modern day thinking?” You’ve placed your personal interpretation of the disciplines of the church ahead of your obligation to attend Mass. You don’t get to dictate the form of the Mass.
It was Protestant, what they did. What was the first thing Cramner did. He attacked the liturgy. Simplified it!, to meet the liberation theology he believed in. The Mass as it was wasn’t good enough for him.
No, the Church has the authority to define the liturgy. You don’t. That’s the difference. You claim it was “progressives” and “modernists.” Those are clearly value-laden and pejoritive terms. What you don’t seem to acknowledge is that they were all duly consecrated Bishops with Apostolic Authority. Individuals deciding they have figured out the best or preferred way to worship God is a very Protestant approach.
It is far from selfish. It is standing up for centuries old Catholic tradition and following it. And not giving in to a changing tradition, but supporting an un-changing tradition. An un-changing tradition that will be passed on to our children.
No it is intensely selfish. It is “standing up” for your personal preference in defiance of Church teaching. The Church says you are obligated to go to Mass on Sunday. She doesn’t say “go to Mass unless you don’t like the way they conduct the liturgy.” If an EF Mass was all that was available to me, I wouldn’t hesitate to attend. I would attend joyously. I accept that both forms are valid and meet my weekly obligation to attend Mass. I don’t put conditions on how I approach the Lord.
Do you think the Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox would put up with and support replacing their centuries old liturgies, with a new simplified liturgy. No!. It defeats, what it means to have and follow an un-changing tradition.
Who knows? If the Orthodox leaders authoritatively implemented changes to their liturgy, I would expect the vast majority of believers to accept them. I’m sure there would be a measurable number of “traditionalists” who defy their Apostolic authority, but that’s really nothing new.

Good reason why we need the EF Mass in every parish along side the OF. I don’t attend Mass either, mainly because every parish locally where I live doesn’t give a thought to the EF Mass or EF Calendar. So why should I give a thought to their form or calendar. We could co-exist if the parishes offered both. But they don’t. They tell us brick by brick. But where I live, the bricks haven’t even been made yet. And won’t be for along time, unless the Pope gets more firm on the situation. This is my reason!. We should have a special dispensation made by the diocese that if there are Catholics who are not able to attend the form they wish locally, less than 25 miles away, are allowed a spiritual communion till one is present. But instead the OF will be forced down are throats and we will be made to feel guilty and be accused by not accepting the OF, while the mainstream will outright refuse the EF and no harm done. The only type of pastor I have now is Fr Zuhlsdorf, of WDTPRS. My cyber pastor.
Refusing to attend Mass becase it is not the EF is no exuse to reject your SUnday obligation. This view is heterodox, and is not in line with Church teachings.

In reality they are not Catholics. They don’t believe in the Magisterium.
Baptized babies don’t believe in the magesterium, neither do people born without the mental faculties to process intellectual thought.

You mean to say, that those people aren’t Catholics?

I wasn’t aware that one being a Catholic, had more to do with believing in the Magesterium, than did baptisim and confirmation.

You are right. But I think th othe rposter was probably referring to what is required to be an orthodox Catholic.

It was a mortal sin when the progressivists changed the Mass.
What about when Pope St. Pius X gutted the breviary that had been in use for 400 years; was he a mortally sinning progressivist?

What about the changes of reform that Pope Pius XII made? Was he a mortally sinning progressivist?

What about Pope John XXIII who put St. Joseph’s name in the “untouchable” Canon; was he a mortally sinning progressivist?

Ah, but Pope Paul VI, who finished the reforms that he quotes “as started by Pope Pius XII,” HE was a mortally sinning progressivist.

Thank you; it is as clear as mud, now.

The difference between babies and those with intellectual disabilities is that they, unlike those referenced, don’t have an understanding of the Magisterium.

Arguably, those we are referring to have been exposed to Catholic doctrine, understand it, and willfully reject it.

Welcome to the logic of those who have crossed the line from being merely Traditionalist to heterodox

They also don’t reject it, or teach others to reject it. (Aside from the fact that they have no obligation to attend Mass, in the first place.)

Once you have been baptized and Confirmed, you acquire the obligation to practice your faith according to the teachings of the Church, as best you understand them, and according to your state in life.

And what is the name of the church you have created for yourself?
I didn’t create a Church like the Novus Ordo created its own Sacraments, Theology, buildings, etc. I attend the True and Enduring Mass of All Times when able to do so or else I read the prayers from the Mass of All Times. The Novus Ordo is not the Mass. The only group that could be accused of “creating a church” is the Novus Ordo-ites.

If yours is the sort of mentality that comes from attending SSPX chapels, then it is no wonder that the PCED constantly recommended that Catholics not atternd those chapels for fear of imbibing the schismatic mentality. It is you who has set himself outside the Catholic Chuch and if you cannot see or understand that, you are truely in need of all our prayers. Quite frankly, if you are anywhere near typical of the seminarians who attend SSPX seminaries there is no hope for any sort of reconciliation. You have deliberatively set your will against the Pope and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and it’s teachings. Such spiritual blindness, self-inflicted is very much to be feared.

Well said :clapping:

If you learned this at a sspx seminary, then the hope for reconciliation between the sspx and the Holy See is a long, long way off.

I’ve been to the Winona SSPX Seminary twice, in 2006 and this past June, to attend the ordinations. They were beautiful ceremonies. The hymns were beautiful (especially the “Veni Creator Spiritus”), the reverence was beautiful, everything was beautiful. They are doing the work of God, not the Liberal modernist “Catholics”.

I learned a lot by spending several days at the seminary. A quiet, reverent atmosphere, with work, prayer, charity, etc. Anyone who insults these seminarians either is entirely ignorant of them, or is just not Catholic.
