FAIRPORT, New York, June 6, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Volunteers with the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) were attacked while peacefully demonstrating in support for marriage in Fairport, New York, on June 2.

The group was peacefully holding signs in support of marriage and distributing flyers titled “10 Reasons Why Homosexual ‘Marriage’ Is Harmful and Must Be Opposed.” The pamphlet calls on New Yorkers to firmly and peacefully resist the advance of the gay rights movement.

Young demonstrators were approached by a pro-homosexual man who knocked down and tore to pieces the group’s thirteen foot long banner, inscribed with the words “God’s Marriage = 1 Man & 1 Woman.”

Immediately afterward, the man threatened to destroy the group’s camera. “I’ll smash your camera,” he said.

Approaching another TFP volunteer who was holding a sign that read “Honk for Traditional Marriage,” the man said: “Are you going to give me your sign, or do I need to rip it up too!?”

The police responded to the report, but the article doesn’t say if an arrest was made or not.

I agree with you, violence at a political protest is never justified, whether by the protesters themselves or by counter-protesters. Simply because someone is expressing their opinion doesn’t give anyone else the right to physically attack them.

If two gay folks want to get married than more power to them. I really don’t see
what business it is of mine. Gay Marriage does not threaten my marriage or my kids
marriage.or me as an individual.
There is so much to protest on this planet like the proliferation of guns, the
conservative movement against the worker in the USA, poverty in 3rd world countrys.
Why protest 2 lovers seeking the security of marriage. You really need to get a life.
I am married have 2 kids in my marriage, been married 32 years. I was born a catholic,
accident of birth and Catholics do not Recognize my Traditional Marriage cause its
the 2nd time I been married.
So, Catholics intolerance is not just against Gay Marriage, it also extends to
anyone that was previously married , got divorce and is presently married.
66% of marriages in the USA end up in Divorce…
Priest at St Patricks in Glen Cove, NY told me I was going to Hell cause
I was Divorced, remarried and living in Sin…so Gays are not the only ones
Catholics oppose and hate.
You really need to get some love in your life…you feel better about yourself
and the people around you and stop the Herd Mentality…think for yourself

Come now, my friend, you know that’s not really true. Let’s be fair: the left has engaged in many peaceful protests. Civil rights demonstrations and freedom riders in the US South in the 1960s, homosexual demonstrations in the 1960s and gay pride marches for 30 years in many US cities and towns, women’s rights pickets and protests throughout the 20th century, labor rallies and demonstrations: many of these have been peaceful, while some have not, sometimes due to police aggression. And the same can be said of conservative protests: most have been peaceful, but some have not, such as bombings of abortion clinics and threats and murders of abortion doctors.

That said, I condemn the current incident. Everyone is entitled to peacefully protest without fear of intimidation and bodily harm.
