Hello,
I am a fairly recent revert and have been having a hard time with my priest. I don’t know if it is me being too judgemental or…tell me what you think:
examples:
Last night was Holy Thursday. During the Homily he said “yes, Jesus’ body is present in the Eucharist but He is also present in each one of us and we should focus on that and try to be of service to each other…” basically glossing over the Real Presence. There was a scheduled Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8pm-10pm immediately following the Mass and several parishoners (myself and my son included) waited 15 minutes for it to begin when we were told he (the priest) had decided “not to do it”- no other explanation given.
Today, during the homily for Good Friday, he started to discuss suffering. He went on to talk about how some people believe erroneously in something he calls “Apcalypticism” which is that the devil is on earth and is is responsible for suffering -but he says thatis all not true-" it is only due to the human condition" and that we should just " accept it and try to live a happy life". In fact he said, [and I quote! ]“Go out to the movies! Go see a Broadway show! Have a beer or two! or a shot of whisky! or vodka! This is the only life we have! This moment! So go live it and be happy!”
Hmmm…doesn’t seem an appropriate homily for Good Friday…but what do I know
(BTW: This is also the same priest who in my crisis over NFP counseled me to use ABC and to “not worry about it”)
Am I being scrupulous?? Is obedience and patience the answer?
thank you for your thoughts.
