Hi!
I am a convert as of two years ago. I converted from the Episcopal Church, so I never knew the Tridentine or Latin Rites and can’t miss what I never knew. I did, however know BEAUTY. If there is one thing those “high church” Anglicans get right, it is beauty. And I REALLY miss it! All I want is a novus ordu done right, reverently, with traditional music, clear lectors that believe the Word they’re reading and a homily that is true, orthodox and relevant. Do you think I can find one? (especially the music). I live on the North Shore of Boston. Does anyone know of a good parish around here?
Congradulations on your conversion. I am also a convert from the Episcopal Church.

I am not sure if you will be able to find a Novus Ordo mass that fits what you are looking for, but there is a Traditional Mass in Boston, and they are almost all very reverent and holy. I don’t know how close it is to your house, but it is in Boston.

Here is the infomation:

Holy Trinity Church
140 Shawmut Ave., Boston, MA 02118
Fr. Hugh O’Regan, (617) 426 6142,

RSiscoe: Thanks. I will check it out. I checked the web site. They have a tridentine and a Novus Ordo in English/ German.

Most things in the Catholic Church mean nothing to me, I don’t even know why I am Catholic half the time. I sit in Church and look at the priest with all his weird clothes and decorations and all the strangeness and I think this is not what I feel being a Christian is about. I feel so frustrated sometimes having to sit there with people in their designer clothes and manicured nails pretending to be all pious and like they actually give a damn about people who are suffering in the world when the priest invites us to pray.
Jesus didn’t have gold candlestick holders or preach in Latin. He spoke to people as equals in their own language. What would be the point in going to Church if you can’t understand anything? Am I missing something here?
Last week, it was sunny, so me and two girls I met at Church decided to skip it and instead we sat in the backgarden and each read passages from the Bible and we discussed some of it and it was fun. It felt so much better being outside in the sun with all God’s plants and grass and everything around us than a cold, manmade building. We then prayed the rosary and I went to the Hospital where I volunteer. I just want to love God and do as Jesus said, take up his cross and follow him. I read posts on this board about people buying medallions or whatever they buy and it just makes me mad, why spend so much money on a piece of metal when you could give the money to charity? I might be a quaker, they sound so cool, they don’t even have a priest or a big fancy Church, just the Bible, each other and God.
I don’t know, maybe I am just naive and silly.

I think what people are seeing is liturgical abuses and not actually what is written in the GIRM to stand for or against it.

Those of us that are parents have heard a similar “you didn’t say we couldn’t do it”

I personally don’t take the Ten Commandments as the “ten suggestions” and would prefer people to follow the rules of Mass (as one may see it as being a traditionalist).

Then to see people doing the orans posture looking rather silly as if it gathers some sort of more prayer power while all the while having no clue what they are actually doing.

Im one of those who cringe during the our father hoping the person holding their hand out towards me sees me in a personal prayer mode verses holding hands with them and ignoring the hand left in outward extended towards me as if im a rebel when they are the actual rebel

Where do you stand on Traditionalism?
I like the new mass compared to the old one. As far as anything traditional: Doctrine i suppose… I oppose gay marriage, abortions, contaception etc. And other things… so techinically the only thing modern for me is the mass.

Wow, what a great thread, a lot to respond to, contribute about:D. First of all, in my humble opinion there is no way the Novus Ordo can hold a candle to the traditional rite, not way, period:nope:. Even when it is done properly it (Novus) invites experimentation. The old rite invites quiet, respectful prayer and adoration, exactly what it is supposed to do. However, it (Novus) is a valid rite, and Pope John Paul the Great was the Pope. He has to be, the bible says that we (the One True Church (Catholic) won’t be left leaderless and that the Pope can’t teach or promulgate error (ya know, papal infallibility?):yup:. Many of you have said that JP II was a bad Pope, because (I think, it appears so anyway) of bad appointments of Bishops among other things. You all need to keep in mind that the Pope administers over 1.1 BILLION people:bigyikes: . There is no way he knows everything about every Bishop he appoints. The appointments he makes in the US for example are gleaned from a list of names posited to him by the UCCB, and if the exisiting Bishops are, shall we say, less than they should be, well those that they suggest will likely be the same. And while he has made some poor appointments he has also made some knock out ones, (Archbishop Burke, St Louis; Archbishop Chaput, Denver; Bishop Brusciwicz (SP?) Lincoln, Nebraska; Cardinal George, Chicago), these are all very orthodox prelates and great priests and holy men:thumbsup: .

Would I have liked to see the Holy Father smack down people like Cardinal Mahoney, you bet:clapping:. But to second guess why he didn’t is a slippery slope:tsktsk:. There probably has not been a more prayerful Pope in this century, and if he did not see it as his duty to do something, I will trust the Holy Spirit showed him the path he took:amen: .

Well,

I like the Mass as it currently stands.

I like music during the Mass that has guitars, piano, bass guitar, electric guitar, flute, and percussion. (I play both electric guitar and acoustic guitar in my parish). But I do enjoy Chant, in fact, it was at my urging to the music director that our parish has begun to include more Latin Chants in our Masses.

I believe that the best way to say Mass is in the language of the people.

And I would take exception when people call for more “reverence” during Mass when “reverence” really means “do it the old fashioned way”. That is not necessarily reverence.

And, for the record, I DO believe in the True Presence, and I am absolutely comfortable talking, telling jokes, laughing, and playing inside the Church and in front of the Tabernacle.

Who put “they are all schismatics”?? Man oh man…
Oh…the Church took a wrong turn at Vatican II, Pope Benedict is the Pope, Vatican II Documents are error free but packed with ambiguities, SSPX only if absolutely necessary, Novus Ordo is valid, it fulfills Sunday obligation.

I’m sorry but I have to ask. How old are you? Don’t give an exact age as that would probably be against the rules but give an “about” type answer please.
