What is the Church teacing regarding transexualism? I wasn’t aware that there was anything clear about it.
There’s not much regarding transsexualism per se, but many general teachings apply to everyone. For instance, when it comes to marriage, the canonical impediment of impotence requires full completion of the act. So this individual (Neria), about whom the article says is engaged to a woman, cannot do so.

If Neria is only attracted to women, living chastely will require celibacy.

You mean you hope the pope remembers he’s the head of the Catholic Church? Yeah, I don’t think that will be a problem. Of course, he **is **the head of the Catholic Church and therefore isn’t protestant. I’ve no doubt he’ll emphasize Church teachings.
The Head of the Church is Jesus Christ.

Why does this concern anyone but the Pope and the person he visited with? Such communications are private, for a reason. Should we even be speculating on what was said? If we were all in the same parish, would it be right for you to speculate as to why I was meeting with our parish priest?

A person met with Pope Francis. This should not concern or bother you.

I was thinking the same thing myself. I think it must be media driven-they are so desperate to see 'hints" that the pope is about to overthrow thousands of years of doctrines and cave to the current culture. I doubt this is the first time the pope has met with a person who identifies themselves a “transsexual”

“Pope Francis ‘embraces transgender man in meeting at the Vatican’ and tells him there is a place for him in the Church”

The Pope’s action as well as his comment sends a strong message, he expects his clergy to do the same. It is significant that he did not treat him like the parish priest did.

Well, I hate to be nitpicky but a priest calling someone “the daughter of the devil” is what’s significant to me. That’s flat out atrocious. A priest treating a person with compassion is not, and should not be news.

Here here. So persons in the press make themselves relevant with such things. That aren’t news worthy.

Meanwhile in the US we also have Sister Monica spreading God’s love

Also, has anyone else thought about how absurd it is that media outlets use the phrase “born a woman”?

There is a time to preach, a time to teach, a time to condemn and a time to show love and empathy. This Pope follows in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi in his humility and respect for all creatures. He is a holy man, indeed. We are blessed to have him as our Pope.

Right. Because, as the media will no doubt tell you (I don’t know this from experience), apparently the worst thing to say about a person who considers himself/herself to be transgender is to call him/her by the sex he/she was born with. Apparently, this means that you don’t accept who they are. 🤷 So media outlets will call persons who are transgender by their “preferred gender” - while noting that the person was born the opposite sex to avoid confusion.

Seriously - many times I get confused when reading the phrases “transexual man” and “transexual woman”. The first thing I think when I see “transexual man” is that the person was born male but wishes to be considered female - but it’s the exact opposite - it’s a person who was born female but wishes to be considered male.

Wow, that must of really hurt the child’s mother! “It’s a, it’s a … grown up! Yuck!”
I’m not sure whether it is malice, ignorance or stupidity that leads people to write like that.

The issue isn’t that they referred to the birth sex, it is that they used the term to refer to adult human females to refer to the birth sex. They should have said “born female” instead of “born a woman”.

I sure he’ll speak kind words but let it be known what sin is. I have faith in our holy father.

You’re right. We all know what sin is and we are all sinners. I’m sure the pope looked at him like he looks at the rest if us, imperfect.

It’s what Jesus would do. I think of the Bible verse, “for I did not come for the healthy, but for the sick”.

Actually I find it interesting. What they come up with personally is none of my business, except to the extent that Francis decides to make public statements on the issue of trans.

But I do like to hear the types of things our pope is doing, because I honestly believe that he is doing something I never expected to see in my lifetime – to reconcile the “structure” of the Church, with the “mission” of the Church. So far I think the “mission” has been hidden in cloisters while the “structure” kept up the outer defenses against attack. Kind of like the “chewy center” meets the “crunchy outside” of the Church. 😛

We know, for example, that Jesus hung around sinners, and ate and drank with them. We also know that from time to time, He publicly defended them against others who chastised them for – their sexual sins. Seems natural that the Bishop of Rome would want to get to know, on a personal basis, those who are publicly known to have “incorrect sexual orientation” and have felt judgement from those who think their sins (such as pride and anger) are somehow less sinful. But no, we don’t know what He knew about them privately. The only thing He did publicly, was defend them despite the sins that were publicly known already.

So yeah like the earlier poster mentioned, Jesus ate with prostitutes and tax collectors. Why not the transgenders? I’m sure there were those who would have been one, had the technology been available…

And I like to know, as a Catholic, that the man in charge of the Church is doing things I believe Jesus would be doing. So that’s how it is interesting to me, plus of course if Francis writes or teaches about it. 👍

Not about the man personally because yes that is a personal matter. :nope: Jesus didn’t say, “yes I know what kind of woman this is because I eat lunch with her every day and have seen her struggles and let me tell you, you don’t even know the half of it” when she washed His feet with her tears. 😃
