I hear that, but I don’t think so.

I guess its possible that transgendered individuals have a severe physical problem in the brain.

But it is more likely just a pattern of delusion, like a man who thinks he is Napoleon or Jesus Christ. The only difference here, is that political correctness means that people are supposed to make like they are buying into the fantasy.
Exactly! And it bothers me that the whole LGBTQ thing is becoming a fad. God help us 😦

“Fad.” You’re too kind.ke it
Mass insanity, courtesy of the prince of lies is more it.

Nice…you have no idea of what you speak of. Why would people face people like you if it was simply a fad or demonic like you suppose.

Indeed. A person who is LGBTQ+ should never come to CAF to find hope.

I know nothing about the neurology of autism, but I have never heard that treatments based on neuroplasticity were used for either autism or Alzheimer’s, for which it would seem clear that neuroplasiticity-based treatments would not work.

NP is limited, but does seem to have usefulness is certain types of situations. I am sorry to hear that anyone would scam anyone, esp relatives of people with disabilities.
Ok, you may not have heard much but there are organizations out there that use nothing more than teaching kids how to memorize and spit back information. The brain may make limited connections, but being in the autism world and having an uncle with a tramautic brain injury that improved slightly does not support what you are suggesting. Are there any functional MRIs to show how the pathways changed?

I don’t believe in strung together letters or newly minted labels like -cis, let alone the absurdities ending in “phobe.”

i do believe in the word of God.

I also believe the devil convinces many that sin is no longer sin. Of course there are many moral relativists here on CAF, and not just the atheists.

Youre right about one thing–CAF is not a forum to seek help with mental health. We should all pray for those who are gender delusional, and encourage them to seek help and resist the devil. Enabling is not the same thing as compassion.

Is the expectation that each word be spelled out so you know who I’m referring to?

And if someone is looking for a way to avoid sin or get out of it I still maintain that CAF is not a place for a person who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual or other non-cisgender to find hope.

Given the complexity of some of these circumstances, and the nature of an open Internet forum, that is not surprising. CAF is not for spiritual counseling even if one sometimes sees it in action.

I have to agree that any type of social media (including various forums) are no substitute for face-to-face interactions with professional counselers or clergy.

I’m not thinking about counseling, I’m thinking about how an LGBTQ+ person lurking and reading posts that are hostile and dismissive towards them. If they are Catholic and are looking towards home they won’t find it. If they hate the Church they will find plenty to affirm their belief that the church hates them.

Quite likely. CAF is a microcosm of society, though like all microcosms, biased in various directions. CAF is no “hospital”.

To expect to find hope and help by just lurking, or by engaging “at large”, when one’s struggles are so particular and complex, would seem to be a big ask. Ideas that confirm one’s own notions always stand out more than those that do not.

And while I say all the above, I agree that there is no shortage of ignorant, uninformed, unhelpful and uncharitable content on CAF. And much that is quite the reverse.

Why such a black and white view? How about, that’s horrible that many transgender people end up homeless after their parents kick them out. I can I have some compassion towards the ~50% attempted suicide rate among them? How about the survival prostitution many end up going into to survive? Why are they amongst the most vulnerable people in American society?

You can treat these people with REAL humanity without compromising your beliefs. Certainly homelessness if something you can support addressing…there are many we support with destructive alcoholism, prison records, and the like without condoning it. Suicide is hardly a Catholic value. You might not like it that people go through some sort of transition, but isn’t suicide a more serious issue in the Church teaching? Prostitution is also not a Catholic value.

Again, I’m not asking you to change your view on this topic, rather you see the complexity and seriousness of the situation transgender people find themselves in. It’s VERY easy to forget that the widely known transgender people you see on TV are far from the norm. Even many of the videos you can see on youtube are also. Personally I find Caitlyn Jenner to be a narcissistic, “reality” TV star who can barely understand the privilege she has had. She had the $100s of thousands to throw at this and has a ridiculous amount of accolade for her “courage”.

Was this directed toward me? You will have to help me see where my black and white thinking is. My post was a lament about what LGBTQ persons would stumble upon here. You seemed to agree that this was not the place to look for hope.

The general content of what I was saying I stand by. I apologize if this was not the point of your post.😊
