Why such a black and white view? How about, that’s horrible that many transgender people end up homeless after their parents kick them out. I can I have some compassion towards the ~50% attempted suicide rate among them? How about the survival prostitution many end up going into to survive? Why are they amongst the most vulnerable people in American society?
You can treat these people with REAL humanity without compromising your beliefs. Certainly homelessness if something you can support addressing…there are many we support with destructive alcoholism, prison records, and the like without condoning it. Suicide is hardly a Catholic value. You might not like it that people go through some sort of transition, but isn’t suicide a more serious issue in the Church teaching? Prostitution is also not a Catholic value.
Again, I’m not asking you to change your view on this topic, rather you see the complexity and seriousness of the situation transgender people find themselves in. It’s VERY easy to forget that the widely known transgender people you see on TV are far from the norm. Even many of the videos you can see on youtube are also. Personally I find Caitlyn Jenner to be a narcissistic, “reality” TV star who can barely understand the privilege she has had. She had the $100s of thousands to throw at this and has a ridiculous amount of accolade for her “courage”.
