That is ‘according to Zimmerman.’
Who is the only person still living who was there. there is no evidence he followed Martin after the dispatcher told him not to. I am sure this will all be cleared up at the trial. my gut feeling is he will either plea bargain to involuntary manslaughter and no jail time or go to trial and win.

Sad part is, not only are they not there when you need them, but they are also not required to protect you. 😦
So what? In my entire extended family (spanning 3 generations) there is only one gun owner that I know of, with two guns, one of which has only been used in defense of property on a single occasion. The rest of us have managed to stay hale and hearty just fine, despite minor burglaries over the years. Threats of violence are way overblown, IMHO. It is also true that violence begets itself. Can’t sweat the minor stuff over statistical improbabilities; life is too good and, besides, death is only a pathway to something way better.

I have a strong feeling that the prosecution was pressured into the 2nd Degree charge (why else would she have so strenuously denied it?) and that Mark O’Meara is going to trounce her in the trial and Zimmerman will walk…only to be hunted down like a dog in the street.

There is also, to my knowledge, no evidence that he stopped. Now that he’s been arrested, we’ll find out soon enough what he evidence is, so no need to get egg on our faces over what may or may not be provable.

What an edifying prediction…

Why would you think that it would???
Because you’ve referred to gun owners as paranoid and you’ve inferred that we should just rely on the police for protection.

Perhaps I’ve read too much into your comments, but it seems to me that the idea of a person defending themselves with a firearm offends you.

The civil suit won’t go as well for him, however, but as he seems to not have a pot to **** in, there’ll be nothing to collect.
Depends on whether or not he is cleared due to the Stand Your Ground portion of the law. If so, he has immunity from a civil suit.

I love the way non-lawyers have it all figured out. Next time you have to go to court, either civilly or criminally, do represent yourselves!!!

Amen to that. I’d rather live in a place where the police were the only ones with guns …

Oh, sorry, you were serious?

Yes, that was an attempt at humor. Please don’t be offended.

Oh, but I’m dead serious - as long as they’re disarmed when in plain clothes. …

I think you missed my point. My point was that there is no place on earth where the police are the only ones with guns. Some people acquire and carry guns legally. Many, many others do not.

Yup. I’ve lived in Brooklyn, NY and been in the roughest neighborhoods in that borough, as well as in the South Bronx, Hell’s Kitchen and Harlem. At night. The cops have done a good job for me for the past 70 years and I anticipate that they won’t fall down on the job in the next quarter century either.
Congratulations, in Camden, where my daughter is going to work the police just come out to pick up the bodies. How about the police protection here:

State prosecutors are notorious for overreaching to satisfy pressure from certain groups. Have we forgotten the Duke LaCrosse rape case…that involved many of the same aggitators?

I generally behave in a manner that precludes my need to be anywhere around a courtroom.

Potential killers break into your house? Sure, use your gun. I’m not complaining about that.

When this case started showing up in the press I told my wife that Zimmerman needs to leave the country or he’s going to get killed, or worse (someone could hurt his wife and kids).

His mom is from Peru so I’m just going to assume he’s got an uncle or something there. If he’s found not guilty he and his family need to pack up and head to Peru to start over.

He and his wife (and kids) will never live a normal life in America again, no matter what happens at the trial.
