Hi, SwizzleStick,

While this did not exactly surprise me … it was interesting to actually read this. Here is a quote:

"A prominent professor at Vanderbilt University is defending remarks made recently by a Southern Baptist official in connection with the Trayvon Martin killing in Florida.

Leading public policy expert for the Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. Richard Land, said on his national radio show recently that civil rights advocates Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are creating what he called a “mob mentality” and that President Barack Obama is using the killing for his own political gain.

“This will be vetted in court, not in a mob mentality that’s been juiced up by Al Sharpton, who is a provocateur and a racial ambulance chaser of the first order, and aided and abetted by Jesse Jackson,” Land said. And on Obama’s statement that, if he had a son, the son would look like the 17-year-old shooting victim, Land stated: “The president’s aides claim he was showing compassion for the victim’s family. In reality, he poured gasoline on the racialist fires.”

Carol M. Swain, a professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, tells OneNewsNow that she sees nothing wrong with Land’s comments.

“All of the media publicity and the interviews and almost like the non-stop coverage has done nothing but really cause people to polarize into camps,” she observes, describing those camps as “those who are defending Zimmerman and those who feel like they have to get justice for Trayvon.”

God bless
:D, indeed. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Maybe it has been referred to a grand jury?😃

Sauce for the goose and all.

Still, I am waiting to see if any arrest comes from the activity of the New Black Panther Party. I see a civil case already possible.

I just did a search and was somewhat surprised to see them listed as a Hate Group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/new-black-panther-party
Not that it matters to them, but the New Black Panthers are actually under a court injunction to not call themselves the Black Panthers. The original Black Panthers sued them, demanding that they stop using their name for being anti-Semitic and calling for race war. They won, and Bobby Seale called them “absurd” and insisted that there is no new Black Panther Party, but any group that is willing to put bounties on people’s heads isn’t about to listen to court injunctions. Seale, actually, was very upset about their existence and said that “they are stealing our history” (interestingly, the surviving original Black Panthers condemned the voter intimidation of the New Black Panthers in Philly).

Until all of the facts of the case have been released I’m not prepared to say that either Zimmerman or Trevor Martin is at fault. Yes its a tragedy, but things like this happen every day. I would invite the media if they really are unbiased to also show the everyday crimes that are occurring sadly every day instead of focusing on one case. Meanwhile, we should be praying for both of these families, but I for one am getting tired of the news media making this a 3 ring circus when other things are ignored.
I promised myself I would not comment on this case because last time I did it upset me terribly----(I lean towards the Martin side, to be clear upfront), but I think your comments warrants a response------

Let me ask you this-----

Does the fact that this case may REALLY be about vigilantism and the tendency of our society towards condoning or at least rationalizing it away justify the coverage shown it and also points to this also going beyond this being a mere"every occurrence?"

Or are you one of those whom I’ve unfortunately encountered here who SEEM to think that the state of our nation security and crime-wise justify condoning folks going “beyond the pale” in answering possible threats?

IOW, “at least we will not be afraid anymore?”:rolleyes:😊🤷

Thanks for the quote. On one or more of these many threads about Martin/Zimmerman, (some quotes below) I wondered about the damage to this nation. I still wonder if division and strife will be the only fruits of this situation. The shooting of Martin is tragic, but he may not be the only casualty.
Sad. We don’t need anything else dividing us.

"Poll: Trayvon Martin case divides US by race, age, wealth, and politics

New polls show a distinct split in how Americans view the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Some groups, including blacks, women, and Democrats, are more likely to see race as a key factor.

The Trayvon Martin case is dividing the country racially, generationally, politically, and by economic status."…

SwizzleStick:
This is an awful case. It really disturbs me. I want the truth. I cannot find it. I see a lot of stirring, charges of racism, corruption. I don’t know what to believe. All I see is loss and destruction and damage to relationships (the families involved, the races, law enforcement and communities they serve, etc.) in this country because of this case. …

…Do you think we will learn the truth at some point or will it be lost along the way, along with any hope of repair to the damage done to the nation by the media handling of this case?

So the latest is there will be NO Grand Jury. The Special appointed DA, is handing the case alone and states she is not ready to comment on the case. 🤷

Appears that is where we are at. I have no idea how to read that. I would say we shall have to see.

Peace

Maybe others have read most of this before, but I hadn’t seen some of these details, so just a bit more info about what may have happened the night Martin died, though who knows about the accuracy.

"Trayvon Martin: Before the world heard the cries

SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) - Tracy Martin had been looking for his son Trayvon since the night before. He went to bed figuring the teen must have gone to the movies and turned off his phone. When Trayvon still wasn’t home in the morning, Martin called the police."…

Give me a break. The kid was so wonderful that he got suspended from school. He was a tall kid, walking where he shouldn’t be, dressed like a hoodlum, and decided to harass a man who happened to have a gun. You spins the wheel you takes you chances. Its a good lesson for these other wannabee “gangstas” waliking the streets

Why were his parents letting him roam the streets instead of having him study to get back in school?

Its a tragedy for sure, but the kid is a victim of his own stupidity and a society that glorifies hoodlum behavior

This whole story is nothing but race baiting.,

Trayvon Martin: UN leader calls for investigation
SANFORD – The case of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin’s death in Sanford has reached the United Nations.

Navi Pillay, the U.N.'s human rights chief, has called for the organization to launch an immediate investigation into the case.

The Florida Civil Rights Association said it supports the recent call for action, saying the involvement of the U.N. would help prevent violence they said stems from racial profiling in other parts of the world as well.

here is one.

Give me a break. The kid was so wonderful that he got suspended from school.
He didn’t go to prison. He got suspended from school.
He was a tall kid,
God forbid, he was TALL!
walking where he shouldn’t be,
Why shouldn’t he have been there? The person whose house he was going to lived a few blocks away.
dressed like a hoodlum,
You mean in a hoodie? The sort of thing that people wear to keep warm and keep the rain off their head?
and decided to harass a man who happened to have a gun. You spins the wheel you takes you chances.
I think its in dispute who did the harassing.
Its a good lesson for these other wannabee “gangstas” waliking the street
Wow. Tell us how you really feel about black people.
Why were his parents letting him roam the streets instead of having him study to get back in school?
Not your business, first of all, but presumably he went to get a snack.
Its a tragedy for sure, but the kid is a victim of his own stupidity and a society that glorifies hoodlum behavior
He certainly was stupid to believe that he could wear a hoodie on a cold night in the rain and not get shot. And hoodlum isn’t the word I’d use to describe George Martin; overzealous vigilantism, maybe.
This whole story is nothing but race baiting.,
Its nothing but race baiting, but its a good lesson to all those [black and hispanic] “wannabe gangsters” walking the street, right?

Tall black kids need to learn to stay out your neighborhoods, huh?

Notice how you had to insert the ‘black and hispanic’ references into his posts…

As if only black and hispanic kids are trying to be ‘gangstas’ these days

Give me a break. The kid was so wonderful that he got suspended from school. …
The young man was not perfect. What person is perfect? Suspension from school is serious business, but what is your point? Suspension does not mean he deserved to be shot.
…He was a tall kid…
My son is 6’2" tall at 14. Again, what is your point?
…walking where he shouldn’t be…
Pardon me? He had every right to be walking in the neighborhood, as he was visiting his father at dad’s fiancee’s house.
…dressed like a hoodlum…
Do you mean the hoodie? Both of my teen children wear hoodies. In fact, both of my teen children got their hoodies from their Catholic schools. Does that mean Catholic children who wear hoodies from their schools dress like hoodlums? My 9-year old wears a hooded sweatshirt. Does he dress like a hoodlum too?
…and decided to harass a man who happened to have a gun. …
That is a possibility. It is what Zimmerman says happened. Witness accounts and evidence may support his version of events. I don’t know with certainty what happened.
…Why were his parents letting him roam the streets instead of having him study to get back in school? …
You raise a good question, but we don’t know that his parents weren’t trying to get him back in school. Whether they were or weren’t, does that mean he shouldn’t be allowed to go buy Skittles and an iced tea at a local store? I believe he was shot on a Sunday evening at around 7:00 p.m. He wouldn’t have been in school at that time anyway, so I fail to see what point you are trying to make.
…Its a tragedy for sure, but the kid is a victim of his own stupidity and a society that glorifies hoodlum behavior
Yes, it is a tragedy. Because he was young, his judgment and experience may have led him to make bad choices that cost him his life. Or, he could have behaved just as you say, like a hoodlum and those evil choices cost him his life. I personally do not know one way or the other.
…This whole story is nothing but race baiting.,
I concur that there has been a lot of race baiting that has gone on.

Notice how you had to insert the ‘black and hispanic’ references into his posts…

As if only black and hispanic kids are trying to be ‘gangstas’ these days
Yes, I did. I am laying a charge that the post was based around racial stereotypes.

Yes, I did. I am laying a charge that the post was based around racial stereotypes.
Well then I equally laid the charge at you for stereotyping that only blacks or latinos 'wannabe; or can be gangsta.

This is so dumb already. I can’t stand stereotypes and/or racism. Talk about going in circles.
