That claim conflicts with all accounts presented about that night.

Having spent some time in this thread, I think there is another factor at work: a child is dead and someone must pay. Zimmerman, by all accounts, made a contributing error, he’s a good scapegoat.

And, most importantly, the purpose of an arrest and trial is to punish a suspect or to test a homocide theory, not to prosecute a case where a crime occured and a conviction is probable.

It does nothing to dispute the fact that
only Zimmerman initiated the final encounter.

Could he have waited and let the police handle it?
I guess not - he was “that scared” - armed and in his big old SUV.

If Zimmerman had followed the advice of 911 staff,
there would have been NO encounter at all.

Can’t get around that.

Actually it appears that he did. They told him to stop and he returned to his vehicle - where he was confronted by Trayvon.

This thread has evolved. And by the time all the knee jerk reactions are over, this “white hispanic” (ridiculous race baiting term by certain newspapers), Zimmerman will be shown in a different light. Do you know how many blacks shot blacks and whites shot whites “unprovoked” during that time period? Nothing said on that, but drum up the “black white” thing and you know the answer. No one deserves to die unjustly but all the facts are not out yet. Zimmermans black friend supports him and paints a different picture of the man.

If Zimmerman’s account is true (see below) then no, it wasn’t him who initiated the fight.

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they’re not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.

Trayvon then said, “Well, you do now” or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Try this: an armed man, going against the advice of 911 staff, pursues
the “suspicious person” anyway and ends up killing a child. (Forget race.)

He did comply, that is why he returned to his vehicle. You seem to have invested so much into a false allegation that you refuse to allow for the fact that you are wrong.
