It isn’t the right of average joe to decide what is right to do with the money he freely chose to spend, after he spent it. His rights to the money are turned over. But that is what people want to use the government for. Some is expected but people can go too far in the name of the poor. Every citizen has the right to give to the poor anytime they want but they choose to buy products and then want the product maker to pay for the poor. It is not noble.

The failures of the Roman Empire are to be learned from, not repeated.

@Lemuel you lost me.

You say Caesar didn’t use tax money to feed the poor.

Then you implied the US is repeating the mistakes of the Roman Empire - because it uses tax money to feed the poor?

Which is it?

Aren’t most of our laws based on helping people do the right and moral thing? Thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not lie (perjury). So why shouldn’t we also support other moral behavior by citizens and government.

Note that I am not advocating for or against governmental social services with my question, I am just asking what is the difference?

Statutes should be enforced on a local level. The federal government should back off.

What else was I supposed to infer from your statement, given the context?

Whatever you wanted. I don’t know what goes on in your head and it’s not my business.

Then could you clarify as to what you meant by that statement @Lemuel?

I think you know you’re losing the argument.

I think that’s why you’ve resorted to acting like a schoolyard child.

Okay, I think we’re done here.

It should be abundantly clear to anyone reading this which side has come out victorious.
