I believe they lost credibility by trying to play politician. As to the credibility of the CDC, I am floored that they have lost credibility due to Trump playing doctor.

They did. (a few more characters)Maybe they could have just said so?
No, the CDC has been apolitical. But the discrediting of The CDC, the WHO, the NIH, etc. does seem to be part of an overall pattern by the far-right to denigrate science for their political purposes.pnewton:![]()

No, it is the fault of the far right that the straightforward best advice from the CDC is cast as a lie or political when it was neither. So the CDC lied (or whatever would you choose to describe deliberately saying something that they new was not true), but it’s the fault of the “far-right”?
So it wasn’t a lie. But earlier you said:No, it is the fault of the far right that the straightforward best advice from the CDC is cast as a lie or political when it was neither.
Which to me says that the CDC made a statement that they knew was incorrect because doctors needed PPE more than the general population. Deliberately making a statement that you know is not true, even if it is for a noble cause, is still lying. The CDC did not lie. This reasoning was explained at the time. It was much more urgent the doctors and nurses who have no choice to avoid sick people. That is just common sense.
Other countries started a PSA campaign to make DIY masks for non healthcare workers.Which to me says that the CDC made a statement that they knew was incorrect because doctors needed PPE more than the general population. Deliberately making a statement that you know is not true, even if it is for a noble cause, is still lying.
The CDC can’t do very much encouraging when the top man is still saying that people who wear masks just don’t like him. Or when the top man undercuts and downplays whatever the CDC says.We would have a much lower R0, and deaths if they had been honest and pushed masks from the start, emphasizing the DIY response to preserve hospital grade PPE.
When one harasses and belittles those who work under him, it does not create a helpful or productive environment at any time, much less in time of crisis. This is not leadership.Or when the top man undercuts and downplays whatever the CDC says.
