The wall is not going to work. It is regularly climbed already. What we need is more border patrol agents and they need back up. The wall is not a solution

We aren’t other countries. What works for them is not going to be what works for us.

Just to let you know, Monte, this was a quote from Metis1 that I used for explaining my sloppy remarks about our southern neighbors… I understand where you are coming from!

A wall along part of the border is great prevention, no need for it to go the whole 1700 miles to have a significant impact.
 
But that’s not what the CBP say they need most, namely more personnel and also improved technology. Trump virtually ignores their recommendations to go back to his “wall”.

Also, note than whenever Trump starts to feel the squeeze from the investigations he creates crisis as distractions. He does this regularly, and to a large extent it works as we’re hearing less about them and more about the idiotic wall he wants to build that’s leading to gridlock-- a gridlock he admitted to when he said he’d own the shutdown and wouldn’t blame the Dems. And, of course, we again see how he kept that promise. :roll_eyes:
 
From all reports I have seen, the wall isn’t much different, if any different at all.
 
Any barrier unofficially defines a “wall.” Some are more effective than others, it is true, but who is qualified to determine this beforehand?
 
The way the wall has been described isn’t much different than the existing sections that are regularly crossed. I’ll look in a little when I have a few free minutes and pull up reports I have read about the wall. It might be tomorrow. Today is kind of hectic here.
 
Are there any plans available for us to see where a taller wall/fence would have a cost benefit over the existing 1700 miles of border? Or is the whole purpose to give Trump a “win”?

I’m sure it’s out there if you wanted to look. I trust that the people protecting our borders insist they can do a better job with better walls along more of our border.

It would be hard to agree on how much of this can be saved by stronger border enforcement, but I expect 5 billion will be easy to recover.

The NAS report on which the Caramota narrative is ostensibly based is very long, and I am working through it. But what is clear at the outset is that the key is education. If we were to collaborate in developing the capacity of people who come here, they would be a net plus.
 
Soldiers actually defending their own country being legally problematic… wonders never cease.
 
In the same sense that legalizing prostitution reduces the number of people being arrested for prostitution.
