Trump abruptly ends press conference after contentious exchange with reporters

I’ve stopped watching TV recently. It is rotting out my mind. World News may be next
 
While I can only claim Irishness through ancestry, apparently the sarcastic response to whiny children is totally genetic and passed via the DNA. Both my parents used that phrase also.

That’s what the public needs to know from him. He gives himself the pats on the back – what about the rest of the story? I’m not going to tear up about Trump having to answer tough questions.
 
I know nothing about a “tan suit” insult, and don’t care to know.

But it’s ridiculous to claim that presidents have not shot harsh public insults at people in the past. Here are a few, but there are a lot more.
  • Teddy Roosevelt on President William McKinley : “No more backbone than a chocolate éclair.”
  • Perhaps T.R. was inspired by Ulysses S. Grant ’s comment on James A. Garfield : “[He] is not possessed of the backbone of an angleworm.”
  • Lyndon Johnson on Gerald Ford: “Jerry Ford is so dumb that he can’t fart and chew gum at the same time.”
  • Woodrow Wilson on Warren G. Harding : “He has a bungalow mind.”
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower , when asked if his veep, Richard Nixon , had contributed any major ideas to Ike’s presidency: “If you give me a week, I might think of one.”
  • Herbert Hoover on Franklin D. Roosevelt : “[A] chameleon on plaid.”
  • Calvin Coolidge on Herbert Hoover : “That man has offered me unsolicited advice for six years, all of it bad.”
  • Thomas Jefferson on John Adams : “A blind, bald, crippled, toothless man who is a hideous hermaphroditic character with neither the force and fitness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.”
  • John’s son John Quincy Adams on Thomas Jefferson : “A slur upon the moral government of the world.”
  • And one more from the saltiest president, LBJ , on Nixon : “I may not know much, but I know chicken sh*t from chicken salad.”

That’s the ‘tu quoque’ fallacy. We’re talking about Trump’s actions here, not if anyone else did it. Further, president’s in the past have not shown petulance towards those who have the audacity to question them nor have they insulted them. Your historical examples fail.

This is more of the Trump apologist syndrome. acknowledgement of his shortcomings is only mentioned as a bargaining chip: “Well, maybe he can be abrasive but I still support him” goes to “Well, maybe his statement was inaccurate but I still support him”. How much of his bad behavior must be tolerated?

Maybe Trump wouldn’t have mentioned that we are now doing more testing than other nations are if the media hadn’t come down so hard a few weeks ago on the fact that at that time we weren’t doing well with our numbers compared to other (much smaller!) nations…

And if the media didn’t always pick the statistic that makes the US look bad, so for a while we heard we had the most deaths of any nation, when our per capital rates were still low compared to those of the same (much smaller!) nations, while using per capital stats for testing.

I remember many years ago people complaining about liberal bias in the media and the media denying it… until one of their own wrote a book about… liberal bias in the media. ETA: Once they were unable to include a denial with their reporting, the issue “ceased to be newsworthy.”

Please don’t confuse challenging Trump on his statements with picking statistics to make the US look bad. Trump is NOT the US.

They choose the statistics to highlight Trump’s supposed failures. If the number of deaths compared to other nations makes looks worse than the per capital stats, they will use that. If per capita testing stats look worse than the straight numbers, they use that.
 
Nice try but no cigar. My post was in response to your (inaccurate) claim that previous presidents always responded respectfully to others.

You’re right that its not exactly tu quoque. Where you are wrong is that you did not post a single example of a president insulting a questioner, a reporter or a critic. The point is how a president responds to criticism, not if Ike thought that his VP was idle or what a president thinks of political opponents. TR’s famous statement about the ‘man in the arena’ might be on point, but he was not insulting his critics.

So no cigar to you on your post. Your examples were not relevant.

I’ve already done that…don’t watch FOX NEWS…MSNBC…I’ll watch CNN if there’s a major breaking national/international story only because they have more coverage…although they keep hashing the same thing so I turn off…don’t listen to Limbaugh…Hannity…none on the right wing radio…nor the left.(if there are any?)…as you can see I’m pretty much left out of discussions on here because that’s all I read here…Tucker said this…Hannity said this…Limbaugh said this…Ingraham said this…etc…etc…I could care less what any of them say…I think I’ve got enough sense to make up my mind with out continually quoting these or any others…it’s just all political hogwash from the right and the left…I’m a registered Republican…I vote Republican mainly because of the abortion issue…I vote Trump but don’t care for his attitude in the least and would gladly vote for another Republican candidate…
