Trump abruptly ends press conference after contentious exchange with reporters

Neither stat bespeaks success.
No, neither does. My point is that when percapita looks worse, the press focuses on that, when it is plain numbers, they focus on that.

By making everything seem as horrible as they can, they are zinging Trump, aren’t they clever kiddies!

But are they helping the country? Are they helping is, theor readers to understand what is happening?

When they say we have higher numbers than Italy, where we saw terrible footage from the hospitals, are they giving us an accurate picture of what is happening in the US? They even “accidentally” captioned a hospital picture from Italy as happening in NYC!

Was that helpful to us? No. It only makes them look good in front of their peers, which seems to be all they care about.

For example, the issue of cases in prisons, should bring up a number of issues, such as how to categorize overall cases–saying that such and such a place has 537 new cases is meaningless because that could mean anything from asymptomatic to on the verge of death.

And the preponderance of asymptomatic cases (96% in one series of tests) and what that means.

The main takeaway I was supposed to take from the high number of cases in prison is that this was a horrible situation and we should definitely be letting all the inmates go free. Even tho 96% of those who “have it” are symptom-free.

Is that spin helpful?

But rude is rude, regardless of context, and I have trouble believing that snapping back at some reporter is somehow more culpable and less deserved than saying something horrific about John Adams.
Yes, it is worse. Rudeness to a reporter is acting peevishly when someone holds one’s feet to the fire. That’s a major difference to saying a political opponent is an oaf. We need to question closely what a president does and what he or she plans – that’s democracy.

You’re quibbling on this one, too. In my opinion. no president in recent memory has whine so much about press coverage. Even Nixon did not stomp out when closely questioned by Dan Rather. Folks here need to admit that Trump acts differently and mostly worse.

I’ve pretty much quit offering my opinions on our elected officials to anyone. I’ve had fine people here declare that I’m all sorts of different things, from left-wing kook, to pro abortion, A hater, heck one person told me that because I lived in the liberal sewer of New Mexico that I was all of those things. None of those things are true. I will only express my opinion on Trump one more time, and that will be in the voting booth.

Not entirely. Lots and lots of people are entertained, even gratified, by seeing him put those people, who are often nasty and incredibly vain, in their places. I admit I enjoy it, and it very much seems to me they deserve it.
But his doing that is rude and irrelevant. I think that the country is better served by a president answering hard questions than by one trying to even scores. This is the old Roy Cohn advice: When criticized, go on the attack! Never mind that the attack has nothing to do with the criticism.

Some find this fun to see but I consider it immature.

A CEO opperates within a dictatorial structure. Not a Constitutional Republic with Democratic principles.

Rude is rude. Pretending that saying someone is “fake news” is worse than calling him the things Jefferson called Adams or vice versa, or Truman threatening to punch one in the nose is just ridiculous. But anti-Trumpism has its own rules and they’re all “Trump is worse than anyone in every way”.
Folks here need to admit that Trump acts differently and mostly worse.
Not at all. After decades of seeing those vain press people act the way they do, I’m glad to see someone stand up to them. It’s sort of like being grateful for Rush Limbaugh simply because one grew so tired of the relentless leftism of the media.

After you’ve been called “irredeemable”, “a bitter clinger”, a “smelly walmart shopper”, a “deplorable” by people of national stature, simply seeing someone like Trump call their lapdogs “fake news” is refreshing. It really is.

Is Sweden ahead of us yet
Yes, it is. 325/million to our 251/million.

You say a couple of weeks since Sweden had fewer deaths per capita than the US? And this is one reason the idea of succeeding… is not relevant: there is a rise and fall to the numbers in each area which is not concurrent. We are perhaps now falling while Sweden may still be rising. Relative success is hard to measure in moving, temporally asymmetrical targets.

Additionally, as RR pointed out, there is the matter of who knows what, not even considering that some nations may be … shading the truth. Nations may not be medically advanced enough in enough areas to know about all the deaths; nations may have a population skewed towards the young, many of whom end up with few or no symptoms; nations may have few international travellers coming in…

There do seem to be a handful of successful nations (at this time), and we should see what they did and what worked.

But how many were predicted in February to die, and how many have actually died? Maybe we were not fantastically successful, but we certainly kept those numbers down considerably.

It would help if the journalists would actually ask hard questions of both sides, and not softball the one and not ask trivialities of the other.

Of course, we all now know what you think constitutes good journalism.

I heard a guy yesterday say he didn’t say enough for Mothers Day. But if he said more, I’m sure they would have said he said too much instead of focusing on the problems of the nation. And on and on.
I think the general criticism was more around the sheer number of tweets he managed to pump out on Mother’s day (dozens I think?) going on about Obama’s alleged crimes and other random topics rather than focusing on Mother’s Day. It was in bad taste. I think even a Trump supporter could acknowledge that without “betraying” the Republican Party. EVERY government leader should be criticized in strong and clear terms on a regular basis…this “if you criticize Trump you’re a hater” mentality is just wrong.

There’s no difference in mouthing off about a political opponent and, in the middle of a nationwide emergency, not defending one’s actions before the press and not communicating with the nation? OK, you can have your opinion.

Where are the softball questions? Remember what the journalist said when Obama’s press person told her to “Breathe”? I do.

I think liberals see and hear only the part where their heroes in the media get put in their place. They don’t accept anything Trump says anyway and probably tune it out or never hear it in the first place and just rely on their own media to tell them what happened.

Which certainly is an irrelevant comment that makes unverifiable claims and avoids the issue. I see.

It’s amazing that lots of people seem to see him as a sort of strongman or “alpha male” figure. He acts up like this a lot when challenged, and it really is pathetic.

So you remember an incident from one of Obama’s press conferences… not sure of the relevance.

So I looked it up: " Obama press conference told journalist to breathe " Interesting results, you should check it out.

If there were, it was based partially on his speeches (“Russia, if you’re listening…”) and record as a failed businessman.
NO! It was based on a false report bought and paid for by the DNC which the leaders of the democratic party and the news media joined together to tell half truths and to swear that lies were the truth. Half the country fell for it and still believe the lies to this day. So sad for America. Look how hard the President has had to work against gigantic opposition. All for politics. All for power over the sheeple…

After being called all that, Trump is in all out assault mode on the free press.
And while it is entertaining for some, it is dangerous for all. All that aren’t cumfy with King Trump that is
