Trump campaigned against Muslims, but will preach tolerance in Saudi speech

It does appear there is great joy in the ranks of the Democrat party when Trump has problems. I too think many of you are happy when he has problems.
I think that most of us are not *happy *when he has problems, but rather hopeful. As in, “NOW his supporters, esp his Catholic supporters, will see what it is that they voted in, and will have to acknowledge their great error in endorsing him.”

Unfortunately, it seems that, paraphrasing Mark Shea, Trump could bite the head off a bat in the public square and his supporters would say, “So? Hillary ate weird things too!”

sigh

Your problem is you don’t recognize that the people who support Trump are rational human beings with legitimate reasons to support him. You view them as largely subhuman and hold them in contempt. They see all these attacks on Trump for what they are, virtue signaling by the class conscious.

I see people who view Trump, someone who said he grabs a woman by the p*ssy (and think about this–if it’s offensive to read this here…what does that mean about the man who actually PROFESSES this is his due), as the leader of the Party of Family Values, as irrational…yes.

It’s a disturbing cognitive dissonance that boggles the mind.

It should also cause great consternation that the Party of Family Values has, just among its top 2 leaders, 6 wives between them.

No Catholic should be endorsing this.

Right because a successful businessman would have absolutely no concept of asking for more than you want to make sure you get what you actually want.
Oh that’s beautiful. Triumph as conniver. Who’da thunk it?

Trump’s promises weren’t promises, just baths in ing positions.
His statements of facts weren’t true, just convenient talking points for advancing an agenda, whatever it might be.

Makes me more optimistic.
Not sure how the people who believed his words and promises would feel about that.

“[T]he idea that the robustly vulgar, fiercely combative, and morally compromised as Trump will be an avatar for the restoration of Christian morality and social unity is beyond delusional. He is not a solution to America’s cultural decline, but a symptom of it.”–

From The American Conservative: “Christians Tempted by Trump Idolatry”

I’m going to add to that. Not only did he say that about the grabbing, but when a woman came forward to say he molested her on a plane, he doubles down and says, “have you seen her?” As if she were not attractive enough for him to grope.

I remember a disgraced tv evangelist break down in tears after allegations of sexual impropriety came out. “I have sinned against you”. To bad he didn’t think to say, ah just locker room talk.

The only Muslims a Christian should trust are those who endorse the Marrakesh Declaration. If you don’t know what it is and why it is important, you need to get your head out of the sand and read about it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marrakesh_Declaration

Islamic doctrine on religious liberty is similar to that of the Catholic church prior to Vatican II & Dignitatis humanae in that “Error has no rights”. This means that when in the minority, Muslims preach religious tolerance, but when in the majority, they use the force of the state to severely repress all non-Muslim faiths. At best, Christians & Jews are awarded dhimmi status, but they are barred from publicly expressing their faith or teaching anyone about it in the hope of converting them. Followers of other world religions are not so lucky.

The experience of Christians & the Yazidi at the hands of ISIS is exactly what the hadith report Muhammad himself did during his conquest of Arabia. The peninsula was “cleansed” a thousand years ago of its religious minorities. It is all recorded in the Islamic sources. The Saudi regime represents a fundamentalist form of Islam that relies these sources in the same way that fundamentalist Christians rely on a literal interpretation of the Bible. Their mission is to spread their brand of Islam throughout the world by taking advantage of the religious liberty found in western Christian nations. We are funding their mission with oil revenue.

The only thing Saudi Arabia has is oil and an ideology. If we had stayed the course towards energy independence from fossil fuels, they would have nothing we want or need.

Where do you stand on the morally compromised St Paul and St Augustine?

Trump is not my pick to defend Christianity but with the moral waywardness of secular government you take who you can get.

I think repentance should always be honored.

And when there is repentance on the part of #45, I will give him a 👍

I applaud his evolution.

But the simple fact is that during the campaign he called for a total and complete ban on Muslim immigration. His evolution does not change the past and does not erase it. Indeed he only deleted the call from his site less than two weeks ago.

The past did happen. Evolution, even if taken at face value, does not that it didn’t happen or that it has no relevance to the present. Posters criticizing the article implicitly denied the past. The very recent past. That’s more than a little freaky.
I sure that you well know that he started calling the “ban” temporary in May 2016. If things lasted forever, then Obama would still believe marriage was just between a man and woman.

Isn’t a temporary ban, that he had developed by 1 year ago better? It’s smart the man that can compromise. You are spinning this falsely and you know it now and you knew it before.

Where do you stand on the morally compromised St Paul and St Augustine?
Where do you stand on the 6 wives between our 2 top Republicans?

Is it adultery or not, because they don’t view it as adultery?

Where do you stand on the morally compromised St Paul and St Augustine?
Where do you stand on comparing Church fathers to failed reality TV hosts who have joked about assaulting women? That’s the better question. I realize we’re all sinners, but there are and were legit pro-life Republicans who could also be compared to St. Paul and St. Augustine, and more accurately so. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, two notable examples.

I didn’t vote for him because I didn’t like him and I have the luxury of living in a Red State. I knew which way my state would vote. If I voted for a democrat, I would feel like I had the blood of abortion on my hands up to the elbows. I do understand you wanting fellow Catholics to see the light but I think you are calling the dark, light.

I think you may be confusing me with another poster, pancake.

I have barely made a blip on this thread, so not sure what you’re actually referencing.

I accurately called out Trump for flip-flopping on calling it “Radical Islamic terrorism,” as he insisted Obama and Hillary must do, and accurately pointed out that a lot of Trump fans are now defending Obama’s non-“radical” verbiage – if you’re expecting some apology for that observation, you’ll have a long wait. 🙂

I think you should enter into marriage as a life long commitment. You should choose wisely and do everything you can to make the marriage a success including cherishing, respecting and growing with your wife as one.

I believe that is the Catholic position.

I don’t condemn non Catholics (or Catholics) for failed marriages but I agree that if there are a string of multiple wives and a plethora of extra marital girlfriends then it is a sign of someone not having the Catholic perspective.

Hopefully both men in question are closer to that perspective now.

Even if they are not they can still be a force for good regarding Christianity, if not necessarily the best examples.

Well it depends very much on what is the criteria of comparison.

Height, leadership, oratory skills, knowledge, business acumen or ability to keep a hair piece in place.

In the discussion above the comparison was referring to the ability for one to sin and still be a force for good.

I accept that apology. 👍

Although I still think his use of p*ssy was vulgar and he did not apologize for that.

Now, when he apologizes for:
-wanting to build a wall to keep brown, poor people out
-making fun of a disabled person
-insulting a gold star family
-insulting Mrs. Obama for not wearing a headscarf while going to the Middle East, but…wait,…Melania didn’t wear a headscarf…:hmmm:
-dismissing McCain’s POW status
-banning people because they’re brown and worship differently from re-entering the US
-banning people like Omar because he’s poor and a child
-removing health care for millions of people because, hey, they had it coming. They should have been working. And the fatty folks have it coming, anyway
-having the most absurd reason for being prolife
-calling one of the most erudite, articulate, thoughtful columnists “a dummy” “if you take his glasses away from him”
-punishing poor women for being pregnant
-cheating on his wife
-cheating on his other wife
-not disavowing David Duke when the Klansman endorsed him
-the Mexican rapist thing
-the women thing…

No, abucs. Divorce and re-marriage being adultery is not a Catholic thing. It’s a Jesus thing.

And unless you think that only Catholics have to submit to what Jesus says, you have to acknowledge that Trump is living in an adulterous relationship.
