Birtherism was not racist except in the minds of those who wanted to say it was. Why was it racist? Just because Obama is black? Is opposition to Obama enough to make something racist? It wasn’t Obama who popularized and continued birtherism, widely acknowledged as racist.
It’s an international company with production facilities in 22 countries, including China. It’s not your “all American company” anymore. Most of its facilities are overseas. The president of the US wants a boycott of a US company.
If you believe it. I prefer not to think of Republicans are all racists. That is the irony with equating BLM with MAGA, a campaign slogan for a man who has been attracting followers among the more racial intolerant with a slogan of social justice. If it is true, and I think the two are not equal, then it by default equates racism with Trump.Actually it is a Dem issue.
Well, if we are going to get creative, then the Bureau of Land Management proceeded Black Lives Matter.Thing is, Trump is not original
Man, I hate to go over this. Racism lay in the implication that Obama was somehow ‘different’. Birtherism after viewing the Honlulu birth announcement was mindless; further on it became a racist trope.Birtherism was not racist except in the minds of those who wanted to say it was. Why was it racist?
Obama tried to be a calming influence. Compare Trumpism with its ‘us vs. them’. Obviously attempts to bring people together instead of exacerbating differences have better long-term effects. A beer summit is ridiculous? I’d prefer it to Trump calling a protester a “son of a *****”.Obama certainly propagated racial division in his reactions and words in events like Ferguson and Baltimore and that ridiculous “beer summit”.
Yes. It’s called projection.Isn’t it crazy? Those who cite racism are called racists.
Widely acknowledged by whom? Where did anyone, including Hillary, state it had anything to do with Obama’s race?It wasn’t Obama who popularized and continued birtherism, widely acknowledged as racist.
There is no way to unify with the disintegrationists. Trump’s Rushmore speech was a unifying speech for anyone who actually believes the the founding principles of the republic. When has Trump ever sought to be a unifier? He sure didn’t at Mount Rushmore! Remember Obama’s famous speech in in '04 when he said “There is one United States of America.” Trump has never even hinted at that – all he preaches is ‘us vs. them’
When you capitalize it, “Black Lives Matter”, it is not a slogan of “social justice”. It is the name of a Marxist organization that has violent and racist overtones.slogan of social justice.
Many commentators, both conservative and left-leaning. The question is if birtherism became a racist trope, not who figured this out. That’s not projection or speculation.Widely acknowledged by whom?
Which founding principles – lack of objection to slavery? Even if he was stating principles, he was not stressing that “We can all we together because of the founders”, he was simply bashing political opponents. That’s divisive on the 4th of July, the celebration of the birth of a nation.Trump’s Rushmore speech was a unifying speech for anyone who actually believes the the founding principles of the republic.
It is nothing but projection and a disturbing practice by the left to accuse everything as racist. Many commentators, both conservative and left-leaning. The question is if birtherism became a racist trope, not who figured this out. That’s not projection or speculation.
I’ve already named them.Which founding principles – lack of objection to slavery?
Let’s be realistic here.Slavery In America is and Always shall be the legacy of Democrats.
The US did not exist until 1776.Chattel slavery was first established in what would be the US in 1619, 200 years before anything resembling the Democratic Party came into existence.
It is not legal in the US to own slaves. The 13th amendment makes slavery illegal. Illegal slavery is rejected by virtually all Americans today.Slavery continues to exist in the US in a variety of forms. One organization estimates that there are over 400,000 slaves in the US right now.
Or trying to call the US a racist country.Trying to blame Democrats for slavery is like blaming Republicans for poverty.
Well said. So let’s stop calling Trump a racist, blaming him for the virus and it’s resulting deaths. We should be better than that. This site should encourage deep reflection on the nature of these serious problems - and the answer is never as simple as “The political party I dislike is to blame.” That is the lazy man’s answer, not the thinking man’s answer.
To be clear, some companies, like Goodyear, support racial equality. It is not the whole of the United States that is seen as racist. But comparing one’s personal support for elected office with social justice is at best racially obtuse, or egotistical beyond belief!Or trying to call the US a racist country.
Jones said it is in this nation’s DNA.To be clear, some companies, like Goodyear, support racial equality. It is not the whole of the United States that is seen as racist.
Let’s continue to be realistic here. The US did not exist until 1776.
The 1619 project is a fictional misrepresentation of our republic, built by some who herself has spoken with racist overtones.
And it was not the United States until 1776.Let’s continue to be realistic here.
Slavery was introduced to what would become the US in 1619. That has absolutely nothing to do with the “1619 Project” which I never mentioned (and, incidentally, know virtually nothing about).
No. I’m disputing that the United States existed in 1619, so the date is irrelevant. Following 1776 and since, there has been an ongoing effort in this country to eliminate the types of discrimination that stand outside the founding principles of the republic. Are you disputing that chattel slavery first came to what would be the US in 1619? Because you would be wrong.
The Republican Party was born, at least in part, as an abolitionist party. It maintains that stance through Jim Crow up through today.Your desire to blame slavery on the Democratic Party is historically indefensible. The Democratic Party didn’t create slavery. It’s true, of course, that the Democratic Party protected the institution in the antebellum period - but that’s true of every other party at the time as well (even the Republican Party didn’t move to abolish slavery until well after the Civil War was under way).
I invite you to do the same.Let’s be better than slinging partisan mud at each other. Let’s think deeply about the issues of our day (including slavery) and work on solutions that include something beyond just blaming the other guys.
