Trump’s willingness to hold a grudge against what he perceives as personal slights — even against those who have passed away, such as Sen. John McCain — has been a hallmark of his public image for decades, though as president, it’s remarkable that he would not praise Lewis, who at the time of his passing last month was widely recognized as a hero of the Civil Rights Movement.
To a Democrat, Lewis would have been an unalloyed saint because of his civil rights record. Repubs can respect him for that too. But Dems would ignore the fact that he also supported killing live infants already born and shoving sharp instruments into babies’ skulls to kill them while they’re being born. They would ignore it because they support those odious practices too.

I don’t know what Trump’s thinking was or is. I know my own. To me, Lewis is a very mixed character who deserves the quiet respect one should have for the dead. Nobody asked me about Lewis, but I think I would answer about the way Trump did, not the way McConnell did.

John Lewis said Tea Party members used racial slurs, spat at some representatives I guess on the Hill. Andrew Breitbart offered $100,000 for anyone with such evidence of this happening. Nothing was turn up.

Here is an interesting article on that thing.

Well if one’s daughter comes home crying saying “I was raped”.

And if the accused says “If it didn’t happen on YouTube, it didn’t happen at all.”

Would that be acceptable?

You say he won’t support it. Why not? Yet you also say he won’t oppose it.
This makes no sense.
I don’t support watermelon seed spitting contests yet I don’t oppose them. The concept is pretty clear.
I cannot speculate on why Trump would not support renaming the bridge.
Did he say he does not support renaming the bridge? @Nepperhan

As a black person, I will thank you not to make assumptions about what black people do not understand. We understand that the Republican party as it is currently constructed is against civil rights, is against voting rights, and is against progress for black people. Unless and until the Republican party rids itself of these types of . . . people. . . , we will continue to hold our nose and vote for the lesser of two evils!

Further, assuming what we “don’t recognize” is exceptionally condescending and does nothing to attract black people to your point-of-view!

@Nepperhan

You just stated in a post you cannot speculate on why Trump would not support
renaming the bridge.

Where did he say he does not support renaming the bridge?

When you asked why I thought Trump would not support renaming, I replied: “I cannot speculate on why Trump would not support renaming the bridge.” Now, that does NOT mean I think Trump would not support the mentioned renaming.

You belabor the issue.

Vermin??? Did you come up with that yourself, or did you get it from Democrat politicians or media? Maybe it’s another way of saying “bitter clingers” or “irredeemables” or “smelly Walmart shoppers”.

Republicans might not be as sensitive to your concerns as you would prefer, but I have never heard a Republican call black people “vermin”.

A political party that teaches its people to think things like that ought to hang its head in shame.

But they certainly call Democrats that and worse.
Possibly you have heard it. I haven’t, and certainly I have not heard a Repub candidate for president call all Democrats “vermin” or anything like that. Possibly you can give us a reputable source showing that they did.

Since I don’t know what political party those in these forums who call the democrats by various less then complimentary names or suggest they hate God and the Bible, it would be hard for me to do that. I didn’t realize we were limiting this to political candidates only

Since most BLM people seem to be white, do you know for sure he was calling any black people “vermin”. In any event, he certainly wasn’t calling black people generally by that or any other name.

No cigar. This fellow Pittman is definitely an excessive sort of fellow and probably most unpleasant generally, but he didn’t do what you are suggesting he did.

This is identity politics, what if someone was writing “I as a white person…”, “I as a Hispanic…”??

There are plenty of Black Republicans and furthermore, Democrat strongholds such as Minneapolis, Detroit and so on, are not something to aspire to.

No one should act like they speak for a whole group or ethnicity.

Actually, given their voting patterns, less than 10% of the black voting population is Republican. So, I said what I said. It is fine if you do not want to engage in identity politics. That is yous choice. I have made my choice!

What about calling ‘nevertrumpers’ “Human scum”? Is that harsh enough for you? Or calling attorneys “Angry Democrat Thugs”?

Remember that Clinton did not call all Republicans deplorable nor did Obama put all country folks in bitterclingersville.

You have provided no proof or backup to your claims. You don’t need to either, that is your right

Also, the Democrats have supported Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood.

I too have made my choice.

Things should get better after 50 years, not worse
