I’m a natural born cynic, sadly. I think it’s true of most politicians that they are handed a flag (party platform) to march with and they live and die by what that flag is made to represent. Whether they believe what the flag represents or not, they carry it to the death. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton working in a soup kitchen on alternate Saturdays? Can you imagine Trump inviting some out of work coal miners over to the house for a night of poker and a few beers? No, of course not. Nor can you imagine any of the party brass in either group.
The reason for the haymakers at the Republican establishment, for me, is that they have been singularly unable to field an electable candidate for 3 election cycles. None of them is electable or charismatic. For a “conservative” to win he must be charismatic, likable, able to capture people’s higher values and emotions. (Clinton is unlikable and certainly not charismatic but she’s got the goodie bag and her constituency wants goodies.) Do you find any of the Trump alternatives presented during the primary season to be a possessor or any of the charisma to move the hearts and souls of the common man? A Kennedy, a Churchill? I didn’t find that and now we have a detestable egomaniac trying to sway people away from the goodie bag. It will never happen and that is the fault of the RNC. It makes me pretty angry because I have little grandchildren who will have to live in the mess the Dems have created and will foster.
