Trump denies Covid-19 surge even as virus spreads among Pence's inner circle

The graph from CDC shows the percent of tests positive over time. This ratio is more meaningful as an indicator of whether the disease is surging or ebbing. The ratio in the last week of available data (6.3%) is up but not significantly based on the average percent positive (9.0%). Rather the infection rate is down ~ 50%. Not a time to relax but not a time to panic either.

Who would of thunk about it? The testing itself spreads the virus among the people? The testing makes more people sick? Are there people who take this bizarre claim seriously?
Its true though, more tests = more positives. Cant argue that logic. Or can you?

Less tests = less positives. Or does it?
What is forgotten in all this is to make a comparison of number of tests per number of positives as a stat over time.

Did the same number of tests give less positives, more positives a week, a month, two months, 5 months ago?

Its a pity these kind of statements are not followed through with some kind of logical statement. Its all a bit random and means nothing.

The logic behind it does not make the thing go away though does it. You can talk the talk all you want, but to walk the walk, a different set of logic needs to be employed.
My question is who has the logic to employ a different set of logic?

If you have no covid problem you could test an entire population and find little to no covid, which negates the logic of more tests = more positives.
In this case more tests = less positives doesnt it.

Cases are spiking all throughout Europe as well. Clearly this is the nature of this virus. Why President Trump has been singled out as having handled this poorly is disingenuous.Oh wait! It’s a political season, sooooo
Discussing the spike in Europe is off topic. We all should know the nature of this virus by now.
To stick with the topic of this thread, Trump is being singled out here on this thread, as he made the very logical statement that

But do more tests really mean more positives? if you dont have a covid problem, you can do as many tests as you want, and you might find more negatives then positives. You would reveal no covid spike or problem.

So his statement really contains no functional logic. On the surface it seems logical until you start asking about the different conditions. (which clearly he did not do when he made that statement)

Critical thinking is the key here as someone very close to me keeps pointing out.
No, I earlier had asked that they post evidence that Trump claimed that testing causes the illness.
Apparently there isn’t any.
That is not the topic of this thread. The topic of this thread is the statement Trump made, and being reported internationally as part of the election coverage that Trump claimed the number of positive covid tests is directly a response to the number of covid tests. What were his exact words?

coronavirus infections are rising because the US has increased testing

U.S. President Donald Trump said that increased COVID-19 testing makes the U.S. look bad by increasing coronavirus case numbers.

Trump has said this more then once. There is a certain logic to it if you dont think about the logic and take it on face value.

Either way, that is what people here have claimed.
And this far, have not shown.
People here are discussing what Trump stated, do you believe his statement demonstrates logic, is it logical?

Here is the claim again.
First post of the thread actually.
yep ok you got me, Zake has not quoted what Trump said accurately. Zake should have quoted Trump accurately, because Trump is not saying that. Trump is just saying if there are less tests, there will be less positive cases, then the numbers will go down.
Good low covid numbers are good for politicians of any country. The politicians in my country love low numbers of covid.

Did you think what trump said was logical though? How much logic does it hold? If that is too personal a question please ignore it.

Having fought already over what exactly was said, how about you tell me what you believe he said.
I’ll let you know.
I posted a couple of them further up, I have not fought with you, and have repeatedly stated what Trump said.
Basically though, to recap. Trump has said on a few occasions
coronavirus infections are rising because the US has increased testing

U.S. President Donald Trump said that increased COVID-19 testing makes the U.S. look bad by increasing coronavirus case numbers.
Do you feel that is logical , if so why? I have a couple of posts up thread on my dissection of logic with increased testing = increased virus numbers

So did the president say this:
"coronavirus infections are rising because the US has increased testing

U.S. President Donald Trump said that increased COVID-19 testing makes the U.S. look bad by increasing coronavirus case numbers

Or did the president say this:

" coronavirus infections are rising because the US has increased testing"

I am sure you can see where I may be confused.

Yes he said those two statements, I googled to find out what he actually said. They are said at different times this past year.
He has made a few similar statements at different times in different settings.

Both statements read the same context more testing = more positives / less testing = less positives.

This is a position that quite a few civilians in my state are now adopting because we are sick of lockdown and want it to end completely. Lockdown wont end until a certain number of covid positives is reached. One artificial way of doing that is to stop fronting up for testing. The Premier can then report in his daily reports on television ’ only 5 covid positives today and one death’ as an example of the end result. Rather then ‘1500 covid positives today and one death’
So no testing = less covid positives = no more lockdown.
Its the logic appearing in quite a few places.

To me, the OP misinterpreted what Trump said , or the media report did and he or she repeated it.

There are a few ways to artificially control the virus , testing numbers is one way. Do you guys test your sewage yet for Covid? We do as routine now and then hit the covid testing panic button when it is found in a town.

I see a certain logic there.

If one looks, one sees.
If one looks more, one sees more.

Given how many people never show symptoms, it is quite likely the virus is incredibly widespread.
And that increased testing allows us to perceive it.

I personally believe that if we started widespread testing of the antibodies, we would find many more have had this virus and never realized it.

Testing sewage will give us a good picture of how widespread it is. The pattern is going to be an interesting read down the track. As would antibody testing.

It is said that cocaine use is so widespread in UK now that every single bank note is contaminated , as is the entire and constant sewage flow. Will Covid do the same, and is anyone testing the sewage in Chinese cities and towns.

He’s not singled out. Other nations have handled this virus poorly, but the US is near the bottom in the handling it well. Of course if one simply denies and dismisses all the data as a leftist plot, the US can look quite good indeed. For comparison, look at Norway, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Portugal, Canada, and many others, who have substantially lower deaths per population than the US. The list of nations doing worse than the US is quite short.

I tried to be logical by asking how many were tested positive multiple times? One test/one person? There are so many variables!!!
