For one thing, security and protection for the president is better at his golf course.

For another thing, when the Secret Service guards Bill Clinton at his home, the government has to pay rent to the former president.

With Presidential Travel for Mr Trump at 13 million the first year, does that $400K even cover tips?
The CNBC article says Trump’s travel cost $13,533,937.28 for the first year. That would be $108,271,498.20 over 8 years assuming the same is spent each year. The article also says the cost for travel over Obama’s 8 years was $114,691,322.17. Those numbers are fairly even. If you want to critize this president for spending too much on travel then you have to critize the previous one also. It does not seem Trumps travel is anything out of the ordinary for presidential travel.

I pay attention to what he does for the country and not about what he says.

Capitalism is about making money. When businesses can find a way to eliminate human employees, they jump on it to cut costs. Have you ever read what Chesterton wrote about Capitalism?

EXCEPT that President Obama did not make a profit from forcing the government to pay his hotels/resorts for the stays. This is called double dipping and is an unethical business practice.

Obama forced the government to pay for hotels/resorts on Marthas Vinyard and Hawaii instead. Presidents get top pick where they vacation. The US treasurey is not out any more money from Trump going to his places than if he went to some other place.

However, President Obama did not own a hotel or a resort.

Why is this basic principal of business ethics so difficult to explain?

If your Mayor did the same thing, owned a resort hotel then booked himself into that hotel, sending the bill to the city, he would be called up on ethics charges and likely removed from office.

This is a conflict of interest.

Trump is not costing the taxpayers one penny more than if he vacationed elsewhere. Why is this basic principle of finances so difficult to explain?

Actually, in real life, you don’t know what billing rates the Secret Service is paying.

Actually, if he didn’t charge the government for the rooms the Secret Service sleep in when they are at one of his properties (think of them as his personal homes, he does), then we would be paying less.

Obama doesn’t own his hotels though.

So whatever it cost wasn’t then paid to “Obama resort and spa”

Every time Trump goes to Mar A Lago or any of his Trump properties, the US foots the bill to his property.

Money is simply a symbol of wealth. Capitalism is about creating wealth that we denote by money.

Yes they make products that are cheaper for the consumer. It is up to the consumer to also create things in order to trade. The businesses do not have a responsibility to employ a certain number of employees. If they do that then other businesses, perhaps overseas businesses will out produce them and employees will lose the jobs anyway. The great success of capitalism relies on the fact that everyone needs to produce to take part. If you try to force the guaranteeing of jobs for the long term this will lead to worse overall economic outcomes. Like Japan, if automation happens this is a good thing as products become cheaper and there is more production and thus more wealth and more workers are freed up to produce even more goods than before. Producing goods is creating wealth and creating wealth is what creates rising living standards.

It has been a while since I have read Chesterton.

If h stays at a holiday inn, that business makes the money.

When he stays at a Trump property, the Trump property makes the money.

Trump property.

I think it is infinetly more likely that Trump is going to these places because that is where he vacationed before he was president and is probably comfortable being there than some scheme he cooked up to make money. I guess when you find fault in everything a person does i shouldn’t be supprised to see people whining about this too.
