Actually no. There is a fundamental distinction here: conservatives want laws that reflect the Natural Law and which protect basic rights that every human being ought to have and enjoy. This is the worldview that undergirds the Constitution, which is the law of the US. This isn’t making things illegal that we feel are sins as you say. This is also why I would have voted for Trump over Hillary because he will nominate justices to the SCOTUS who share this worldview, such as he did with Justice Neil Gorsuch and hopefully the next justice if the rumors about Justice Kennedy retiring are true. If you are unfamiliar with the Natural Law, C.S. Lewis’ short book “The Abolition of Man” is a must-read. If you are unfamiliar with the liberal position, it was summarized by Justice Kennedy when he ludicrously asserted, in Casey v Planned Parenthood, that the right to murder an innocent unborn human being exists in the US constitution:
“At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life.” - Anthony Kennedy
If Crooked H had won, that is the kind of Justice that would have replaced Scalia. Thank God she lost.
Liberals have absolutely no principles, as this quote demonstrates, and they are perfectly fine with blatant contradictions like I described, at least as far as I can tell. Perhaps you see it differently though.
To sum up the basic left vs right divide as it appears to me: liberals are about feelz, conservatives are about realz.
