Trump or Hillary?

I would never under any circumstances consider voting for Trump. Every time he makes news, it makes me think that the country has morphed into the dystopian world depicted in The Man in the High Castle.

Would I vote for Hillary in order to stop him? I would never vote for her under normal circumstances. I strongly oppose the social decadence she supports. But in order to stop Trump, I cannot completely rule out the possibility without first devoting considerable prayer to the question. More likely, though, I would just escape the country while I still have a chance and not cast a vote at all.

Thankfully, I agree that Trump will never be the Republican nominee. The Party will make certain of that.

Well just speaking for myself, I’d say that 16 of the 17 Republican candidates are moderate Republicans (Trump being the exception).

What do you have in mind?
 
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump loses the Republican nomination, and decides to run independent solely to screw over the GOP.
 
It’s almost like an Ayn Rand novel. What could these tycoons have to gain by helping the Clintons???

As I’ve said on prior occasions, the Catholic Church is not a website. There have been lots of things posted on this site that do not represent me – I’ve learned to live with it, to some extent.

Huh… Right now, the “Hillary” categories, add to 28 votes, the “Trump” categories add up to 35 votes, and the “Neither” categories (abstain, 3rd party, other) add up to 39 votes.

I find this to be a subject of debate among Catholics in the US and on this forum with the answer depending on who you ask. As someone who does not practice the Catholic faith, partly due to this whole voting debate as to who Catholics can not vote for, I have no dog in the fight so to speak. But I do find it interesting that CAF posters will tell Catholics who they can and can not vote for. Yet the US bishops’ citizenship guide states that even the bishops do not intend to tell Catholics for whom or against whom to vote. And the bishops go on to say they recognize that the responsibility to make choices in political life rests with each individual. I’ve always wondered if it was as simple as “Catholics can not vote for someone who is pro choice”, why on earth did the bishops’ conference take so many pages and so much time to produce a guide if they could have instead simply said in one sentence, “You can not vote for a pro choice candidate.”

If this has split these forums, which, from my experience, represent the moderate to extreme conservative basis in American politics, to nearly 50:50, with many actually wanting to support a liberal over supporting Trump, then he hasn’t a hope of winning the presidency. If the Republicans use him as their presidential candidate, they lose the white-house.

Hopefully, the Republicans can use this as a wake-up call to the absurdity of their politics in the last decade - and return to a more palatable party.

I find it amusing that you think “voting like Jesus” is to vote for discriminatory racial laws that sound remarkably like nazi Germany’s, which will, as history has proven time and again, deepen the divides that allow extremeism to flourish in the first place. Perhaps, also, you’re forgetting that Jesus was of Middle-Eastern origin, certainly not white.

Xenophobia, fear-mongering, hate speech, ego-mania, and recklessness to the point of jeopardizing the common good is not something I think Christ would want us to “support.”

But I won’t be voting for Hillary either. Abortion…etc.

I guess I won’t be voting for another election!

I suppose, were I an American, I would abstain from voting too.

However, if I might ask, do you really think the best method for preventing abortion, and the desire to go through with one in parents, is to ought right ban it? Is it really a reason to flat out ignore other areas of policy, important areas such as the economy, and abstain? Why?

As someone who is new to Catholicism, I’ve never voted in an election as a Catholic… before I was a hardcore liberal democrat and so I always followed elections and voted “blue.” Since I became Catholic, I’ve been kind of confused about how to proceed, because I can’t find myself voting for these libertarian neo-con hicks and war-mongers, “kick-granny-to-the-curb” and “screw-minorities” republican candidates… but I can’t vote for abortion-industry-loving candidates who advocate marriage equality either…

Sometimes I wish there was a Catholic Party, then it would be easy… even if we lost every year (which we would). At least we wouldn’t have to think too hard about it. hehe

I know you said you don’t want to think too hard, but which Republican candidates want to “screw minorities” and “kick granny to the curb”. Don’t give us democrat talking points or fear mongering. Actual examples, please.

And which, exactly, are the “neo con hicks”. You think that’s appropriate language for any Christian? Particularly a Catholic?
