We’re pretty much dooming a huge portion of life on planet earth with Trump over the next 4 yrs.
Not even close.
Or, since his economic plans and policies are so bad – even economists say they are bad – he could put the nation into a tail-spin of an economic recession during which our GHGs may actually go down quite a bit. (I don’t really wish that hardship on anyone, esp when we could reduce our GHG emission while maintaining our living standards.)
There will be a recession, but not for the reasons stated here. There has been a real recovery in the last 10 years and a correction is due for all this printing of money, low interest rates and bailouts. But after this the economy will be booming if Trump can deregulate unnecessary regulations and lower the corporate tax rate.

It is just fine for people to believe in it or disbelieve it, as they choose. As hundred of posts have established on CAF in the past, there are studies supporting the proposition and studies opposed to it.

Meanwhile, of course, people don’t actually experience it, and most now no longer believe in it at all or think it’s real but not really harmful. Most meteorologists hold the same opinion.

I have no problem with the idea of any person doing what he can to reduce his own emissions. That’s a free choice. What I do have a problem with is forcing hardships on people to serve what is more an ideology than it is a known fact. And when the elites supporting it do not act as if they believe a word of it, my problem is made more keen.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he thinks there is some connection between climate change and human activity and “clean air is vitally important,” a New York Times reporter said in a tweet.

Trump, who met Times reporters and editors in New York, “says he is keeping ‘an open mind’” on the issue, the Times’ reporter wrote on Twitter.

Trump has previously called man-made global warming a hoax. “I think there is some connectivity” between humans and climate change, Trump said in the Times interview.

Yes, as I said a week or so ago - Trump will listen to all sides on this issue. I think he is seeking to genuinely make the right decision for this country and the good of the American people, the world. And, God knows, when he has made up his mind he is difficult to dissuade or intimidate. I don’t want to get too optimistic or naive here, so I’ll wait and see. But from this statement I get a very good vibe. He is much closer to a proper little Presbyterian after all, not Attila the Hun. Cross your fingers on the “core.” Decency pops up in the strangest most unexpected places.

Maybe this is just to get those very concerned about climate change (who put that near the top of their voting issues) off his back.

I don’t believe one iota Trump has softened on his opposition to mitigating climate change and his anti-environmental intentions. He is appointed well-known anti-environmental & staunch climate change denialist persons to his EPA transition team and he plans to scrap NASA climate research. See the more recent article “Trump to scrap Nasa climate research in crackdown on ‘politicized science’” at msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-to-scrap-nasa-climate-research-in-crackdown-on-%E2%80%98politicized-science%E2%80%99/ar-AAkE8hm?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

In fact I think this was Trump’s most important issue – to ditch any efforts to understand or mitigate climate change – with others, such as abortion and immigration just to get votes.

Do not be fooled by a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He is heavily invested (as are his buddies and cronies) in fossil fuels.
Most conservatives who voted for Trump in the general have been talking for months before the election that this more or less what they expected.

So the attempts by the liberal media to try and get conservatives to feel betrayed is not going to work. Believe me, we all know what it was about and if it goes bad, we’ll just blame the deep south evangelicals :D:p;) because that was Ted Cruz’s firewall, and they voted for someone clearly less conservative than Romney. :o

Most of the people commenting on this are not scientists, and the polar bear population has been increasing.

This is really about an excuse for professors and Al Gore to get more easy money.
No, it’s people who are being harmed and killed by CC…tho our population is continuing to grow…which means just that many more people who will be harmed and killed by CC over the next 100,000 years, assuming there are still humans around then.

So I’m not sure why all these crocodile tears for polar bears, when people are suffering and dying from this. Perhaps it’s a distraction from the more serious CC harms and our moral responsibility to reduce those harms.

Well at least I knew all along it was really about climate change and intentions to derail any attempts to mitigate CC.

Those who voted for Trump, it seems, are also not concerned about climate change and the harms it is and will be causing for 1000s of years to come. But I’m pretty sure they voted for him for other reasons, not to halt efforts to mitigate CC.

Donald Trump is poised to eliminate all climate change research conducted by Nasa as part of a crackdown on “politicized science”, his senior adviser on issues relating to the space agency has said.
Nasa’s Earth science division is set to be stripped of funding in favor of exploration of deep space, with the president-elect having set a goal during the campaign to explore the entire solar system by the end of the century.

The deep space exploration part is good, though. If the climate change deniers turn out to be wrong, we might possibly find another habitable planet out there where we can relocate once the damage on earth becomes irreparable.

This is not a realistic solution, it’s just silly science-fiction.

I think a lot of this could be privately funded (the climate one) but I’d really like to see the NASA space division funded better. And although this isn’t related funding for things like PBS could also be scrapped.

Personally, I don’t believe Trump or his advisers are particularly awake or too willing to admit or consider how little we understand our situation. It seems like he’s entirely swayed by groupthink, rather than attempting to look at the grand scale of things. I think you’re right, and I also believe that if we’re wasting endless trillions of dollars on our global war racket/architecture just to keep the economy and everything else running smoothly, we may as well just focus on space exploration instead. This endless, pointless military-based economy is probably the same reason the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids. It’s just an endless pit to waste resources on, which evidently is required by enormous civilizations for some reason. I can’t wrap my head around the reasons why it’s required, but apparently it would all unravel without some bottomless pit to focus our collective energy on. I suspect that phrase “war economy” goes far deeper than any of us realize. And I know, too, there are some very astute economists who peruse CAF, so please point out and clarify my mistakes - I’m merely trying to make sense of the idocy I perceive in human affairs, which is far, far beyond my ken.

NASA’s Earth science research is a basic source of information about the world. Ending it would be massively harmful not just to America but the entire planet. The only people politicizing science are the people ignoring basic reality because it doesn’t fit their agendas.

Good decision. NASA is there to explore space, let them focus on their core function.

Look at where we are now compared to 100 yrs ago, now think about 100 yrs in the future.

Really? If mankind continues to progress in the decades to come, eventually we are going to spread out to other planets, thats a given imo.
It is important to understand that man spreading out to other planets, even if it happens, will not be a solution for the people living here now, or for the vast majority of their descendants. It would be a very elite few who actually got to leave earth.

Nothing in the last 100 of history projected forward 100 years in the future suggests it could ever be anything more than that.

I do agree with that, I even have my doubts whether God would allow mankind to achieve such progress.

Our only hope is to be the guardians of our planet and all of its inhabitants as God intended in Genesis. It would be foolishness to waste our time and talents on what lies beyond us in the heavens. Space exploration is best left to the experts like Roddenberry, yes, it’s science-fiction.

Besides, hasn’t President-elect Trump been briefed about the alien base on the moon? We can’t go there anymore.
