Trump was remarkably obtuse in the interview. The question is not if people love that flag. Does he even know or acknowledge that its design trumpeted white supremacy?

I don’t think he cares.

Not sure about its design trumpeting “white supremacy”. It symbolized a military unit, and was chosen by Confederate veterans associations because it was not a national flag for the CSA.

13 stars for the states that the CSA claimed for itself, used by the fighting men and the veterans associations. Design and use covered, now what?

Well he is right. More white people than black people are killed by police. But to be fair the ratio is disproportionate. But let’s not let a little thing like numbers get in the way of BLM mantras. Another reason why ALL lives matter.

I believe the white field on the battle flag was to denote perpetual white supremacy. Plus, the ‘stars and bars’ was used in the fifties and sixties to show opposition to civil rights laws. That is when it first flew on the SC capitol grounds, for one.

So the flag cannot be separated from its white supremacy background.

Some people also believe in the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. Why are you more credible when you are mistaken about basic details? The battle flag has no white field.

Now what else might have been happening in the 60’s? I will give you 3 guesses and the first 2 do not count. The KKK also ran around with the American flag too.

But then we know that people who continue to display the Confederate flag are “fine people” … we have [the must be a racist] Joe Biden’s testimony to that fact …

Of course he also voted to restore citizenship to Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis - because - dont you know - doing so was very important necessary actions that needed to be accomplished by the US Senate - by an esteemed Senator Biden …they probably were fine people too …

No it was the first official flag of the Confederacy. The ‘stars and bars’ was featured as part of the MS state flag until this year.

"In emphasizing the positive aspects of the South and especially the antebellum social order, the Lost Cause—and with it the battle flag—also came to represent white supremacy for many. As far back as 1863, when the mostly white second national flag was adopted, a newspaper in Savannah, Georgia, praised it as “emblematical” of the Confederacy’s fight “to maintain the Heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race.” … Beginning late in the 1930s, however, two things happened more or less at the same time: first, the battle flag became a fixture of pop culture, representing the generic Old South of the film Gone with the Wind (1939); and second, it was adopted by the third incarnation of the Ku Klux Klan. Previously, the Klan had displayed only the United States flag during its marches, but as the organization was pushed by law enforcement out of such Midwestern redoubts as Indiana and back into the South, it garbed itself in more explicitly southern symbolism.

This, in turn, helped to shape the meaning of the battle flag in American political and popular culture during the mid- to late twentieth century. It became a symbol of the States’ Rights Democratic Party, nicknamed the Dixiecrats, which ran South Carolina governor Strom Thurmond for U.S. president in 1948. The Dixiecrats explicitly stood for what some considered to be the traditional values of the Confederacy—states’ rights and white supremacy—and although they lost the election, their use of the battle flag helped to associate it with those values. According to a newspaper account, Thurmond’s supporters in Richmond shouted the rebel yell and displayed what the newspaper mistakenly described as the “Stars and Bars.” In the meantime, Richmond store owners reported that sales of the battle flag during the summer and fall of 1948 equaled or surpassed sales of the Stars and Stripes."

Wrong again.
You know, anyone can quibble around the edges. Read the snippet from the Virginia encyclopedia.

  1. Its the ‘Democratic Party’
  2. You are wildly irrelevant. Lincoln spent more time in IN than in IL. The Wright brothers did more work on aeronautics in OH than in IN. Tomatoes are from the Andes and pasta is from China.
What difference does all that make now?

Also, the Stars and Bars referred to the first CSA national flag which was not used on the battlefield because it looked way too similar at a distance to the Stars and Stripes. Bottom line is, you need to read some actual Civil War history instead of googling it on the spot to retroactively justify your opinions.

You don’t know what I have read and I don’t google.

Quibbling don’t matter.

You are getting basic and easily verifiable stuff wrong. Why should anyone trust your opinion on anything more complicated?

Simple. I don’t want to see any relics of the Democrat Party left standing.
Not their flag. Not statues to their leaders. Not their images on a dime or a twenty.
If we are going to hold Americans accountable for slavery 155 years later, it is the political party that was responsible for it and the Confederacy.
If reparations should be paid, the Democrat Party should pay them. Republicans has nothing to do with it except defeat it. Then Republicans defeated Jim Crow.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of the Democrat Party. They should own it.

Please stop posting things like this. It is just not so. It was southern conservatives, exactly, who led in racial discrimination against minorities so aim your vitriol at them.

If you can’t even post ‘Democratic party’ then you should just leave the subject alone.
