Trump stands by statements on Mexican illegal immigrants, surprised by backlash

And even if he had singled out illegal immigrants, most of them are not drug runners, they’re not criminals, they are not rapists. They are *poor, *which, I am sure, in his eyes is the same thing.

I get a little sick to my stomach when I hear the racists defend Trump’s outrageous comments. The fact that there are people who agree with him and will probably vote makes me doubt the wisdom of universal suffrage.
I guess that makes me a racist since I defend Trumps comments. 🤷 oh well…

I think many mexican immigrants, whatever their legal status, are bottom of the barrel problem-people. Their country doesnt want them, so they encourage them to leave.

I dont want to help them either. Whatever help they need they can go find it somewhere else, and stop turning american cities into mexican ghettos. And i vote.

Notice too,

Obama last week called some illegal immigrants “gang-bangers” but he does not seem to get the treatment as Trump:
Immigration Reform news 2015: Obama calls some illegal immigrants ‘gang-bangers,’ Trump tries to gain political mileage - US President Barack Obama ruffled many feathers on Wednesday when he referred to some illegal immigrants as “gang-bangers,” adding that they should be deported.
US President made the controversial remark during a town hall style event in Nashville to discuss Obamacare.

I didn’t question the guard’s competence, Trump did that. I’m simply pointing it out.

The drugs come across the border to meet a demand. We need to fix our drug problem and it’s not going to get fixed by adding more guards to the border. We are treating a medical problem as a criminal one and it’s simply not working (unless you’re involved in the prison industry of course).

Why are humans being trafficked across the border? Without any statistics my guesses would be cheap labor, prostitution, and drug dealing. The thing they all have in common is that they are all in demand in the United States. Perhaps we need to clean up our own yard before throwing stones.
Trump:
But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.
It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably— probably— from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and** we have no competence,** we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast.
I’ll let everyone examine this statement, this certainly isn’t questioning the Guard’s competence.

I’ll put America First, meaning, Americans should not be killed regularly by people with no right to be in this nation. Yes, and as for drugs, maybe if the border was stronger, we would not have it pushed to kids.

It’s not what Trump said, but how he said it. He could have simply said that too many low skilled workers who we do not need are coming here along with many criminals and then pull out the 30% statistic of the illegal alien community who now inhabit our prisons.

And there have been hundreds of native born Americans who have been killed by illegals, with this truth being kept under wraps by the politicians who do not want to address the issue the way the majority of citizens want it addressed.

We need to completely end illegal immigration and sharpely curtail legal immigration until every native born American currently on the dole has a job.
Thats funny because most people on the dole are already have jobs.

I come across a lot of these people in work settings.

They are not criminals. They are poor people who have no chance of making an even half-way decent living in their own country, and they break their backs working here. They take jobs no American will do and work like dogs. One woman I know who has severe back problems works in a coffee shop eight hours a day, five days a week. Her DH works two jobs, each eight hours. Then on the weekend they clean an entire office building by themselves.

And I can find nothing Catholic in your I-don’t-want-to-help-them attitude, post modern tribal or otherwise.

No it doesn’t. The person who can’t defend their argument, and resorts to name calling doesn’t get to label people. Don’t give him that power, he doesn’t deserve it. And you don’t deserve to be called names.

We know that Cuba emptied their prisons and sent them to the U.S. Is Mexico (government) doing that too? Is that why Trump used the language that they are sending, not they are coming. I’ve heard that Mexico gets a lot of money from the US, from the illegal aliens sending paychecks back home. That would give Mexico the incentive to send as many people across the border that they can.

In my small city, a friend who works with the city power company says that the local Mexican population runs scam after scam, not paying their electricity bill. They buy a property, load it up with gobs of people, and run a bill, don’t pay it and switch the utility to a new name. Over and over again. I haven’t kept track of all the illegals committing crime, but the names come up in the paper quite frequently. Just had a shooting yesterday.

Seems to be enough info to say there is definitely a problem, just deciding how big a problem. If no one can talk about it without being called a racist, the problem will never be solved, only grow bigger till it explodes.

Why can’t they come here legally, though? Does it cost too much or take too much time?

If you notice in the original statement he made no distinction between legal and illegal. I’ll admit that maybe the quote is out of context and the previous sentence may spell out who he is talking about. That said, this statement is chilling to me:

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best, they’re not sending you…"

Look closely what he’s saying. First, he’s talking about people that immigrate from Mexico without any qualifiers (i.e. illegal/legal), these people are not the best (again, not illegals but simply Mexicans), and they are not you. It demonizes “the other” in order to score political points. I can’t imagine reading that any other way than racist, at the very least it’s nationalistic but that’s still not a good thing.

Trump is a buffoon and shouldn’t be taken seriously (unless he’s suing you or owes you money I guess). What’s scary to me is how many people agree with him.
Your last sentence speaks volumes. Open mouth insert foot. 😃

It hardly speaks volumes or else, perhaps real reason might be used in debating an issue instead of maligning others who may not think the same way with such talk.

Cosa buffa è che … la gente ha detto la stessa cosa per gli italiani quando sono venuti qui . vai a capire

Italians came here legally, if some organized crime came though, that was unfortunate and something that was not needed.

And what volumes does it say? Care to elucidate exactly how it speaks volumes? I just see it as maligning those who may not share the same views.

IMHO Mr Trump is not suited for the office of the Presidency.

There’s a difference between helping someone and letting a murderer in your own house. If that illegal in San Francisco had been properly deported and detained in Mexico, then that young woman out with her own father wouldn’t have been brutally murdered the way she was. Same goes for the illegal in Texas who murdered his own wife with a hammer. He was deported four times and still kept coming back.

I think I understood what Trump was trying to say and dont believe he had any ill intent, but it didnt come out right at all. With that in mind, if he can’t talk properly and deliver a simple speech, he’s probably not the guy to run the country.

I said I wouldn’t have a comment, but…:o…I have a friend whose fiancée is S. American. They’ve been jumping through all the hoops to get her citizenship. It takes years (10-15) and several thousand dollars.

That is really awful…Our government is wrong for not fixing this problem. Instead of building a wall on the border, they should be making it easier for people to get their citizenship legally!

Americans won’t work in coffee shops? 🤷
