Americans won’t work in coffee shops? 🤷
Why should employers hire legal workers who are going to want benefits, more than minimum wage, may report them for safety violations or unfair labor practices, withholding overtime, etc, when they can hire someone who lives in fear of being turned over for deportation.

Until employers feel the pain, this problem will not go away. And few employers are as innocent about who they hire as they might like to portray. They know exactly what they are doing

So let’s start blaming the employees a little less and the employers a lot more.

Why don’t we just make it easier for illegal immigrants to become legal immigrants? Then they can’t be exploited by employers and the pay taxes.

I guess that makes me a racist since I defend Trumps comments. 🤷 oh well…

I think many mexican immigrants, whatever their legal status, are bottom of the barrel problem-people. Their country doesnt want them, so they encourage them to leave.

I dont want to help them either. Whatever help they need they can go find it somewhere else, and stop turning american cities into mexican ghettos. And i vote.
That’s not very charitable.

Or make it harder on employers who break the law (and ignorance is no excuse, something I was taught), which is what I would prefer.

But that isn’t what Book Worm said. Book Worm said that they are doing jobs that Americans won’t do.

And yes, I agree, that employers should turn people in that are here illegally. And yes, they should be deported.

And yes, there should be rules and laws about who comes to our country. Simply be close enough to walk in shouldn’t be the only qualification.

Some are saying he is a buffoon.
I think he knows what he is doing. We are at least talking about him and he has distinguished himself from the large pool of people running. He knows who he is talking to…and I bet you it works with his dempgraphic.
Oh yes, I absolutely agree with this post.

I wil say that I am NOT part of the demographic he is pandering to as I find his comments grossly offensive.

Ever hear of so-called “code talk”, that might be to say something like 'those people don’t know how to act" or saying something like “part of the demographic he is pandering”, that sounds offensive as well.

Unless, the demographic somehow is speaking about people badly affected in ways because of illegals in the US.

There was now, an accident in Arizona:
Officials say a 29-year-old man who caused a motor vehicle accident that nearly killed an Arizona family on Independence Day is an illegal immigrant who has been deported six times.
Sheriff’s deputies in Maricopa, Arizona, say Manuel Perez-Vasquez was under the influence of drugs when he drove head-on in the opposing lane of traffic on a road in the town about 30 miles south of Phoenix, Fox10Phoenix reported.
A woman and her two small children were traveling toward Perez-Vasquez when the mother noticed him driving in the wrong lane.
foxnews.com/us/2015/07/07/illegal-immigrant-who-caused-ariz-crash-was-deported-six-times-in-last-three/

Of course, these kinds of stories get ignored by many.

That is not true about Americans. Why are you and Book Worm so negative about American citizens? I am really tired of hearing how bad and how lazy Americans are. It is not true. Sure some may be, but there are bad and lazy people in every group. Most Americans are hard working good people.

Why shouldn’t employers be sent to jail or fined heavily for hiring illegal workers? They are committing illegal acts themselves.

👍

An astute observation. I agree we need to help our fellow man. This is a complex matter.

However, using so-called “cheap labor” is indeed, a practice that needs to be cracked down on.

Also, it tends to make for more illegal immigration, illegal immigration is inhumane, the immigrants are exploited, this seems sinful in itself as well, their trek is dangerous.

What the heck?

What did I say that indicated that I think Americans are lazy?

There is already a law in place to penalize employers. It is just that Obama administration has told the Justice Department not to follow the law.

I for one, wouldn’t work at a company that didn’t ask me to fill out an I-9. Nor would I live in a sanctuary city.

Cosa buffa è che … la gente ha detto la stessa cosa per gli italiani quando sono venuti qui . vai a capire
😦 Have you seen the PBS documentary, “The Italian Americans”? Very good and interesting.

BTW I’m first generation American. Both my parents were born in Italy and emigrated in the 1960’s.

My Grandmother was born in the US and her family moved back to Italy when she was about 5.

My aunt was a US citizen, because her mom was, even though she was born in Italy.

She emigrated to the US and sponsored the rest of her siblings. The process took just a few years. My mom then sponsored my Dad.

Now the waiting list to sponsor a sibling is over 20 years. My mom would not be able to sponsor my Dad. Legal residents can no longer sponsor family members.

Why does Trump say that the illegals are Mexican when many are from Central America?

Is America still a “melting pot” which now includes many Hispanics? Is America better able to transform these people into respectful citizens than their home countries? I see it as a token of love.

Trust me, the Bush Justice Department wasn’t all that good. Neither were the Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, etc. Big business really doesn’t approve of government cutting back on their cheap labor pool.

Perhaps you didn’t. I just get annoyed everytime someone says ‘the illegals are just taking jobs Americans won’t do’ as an excuse for why there are so many illegal immigrants in low paying jobs. I think there is an American out there for every job. An employer might have to pay more than they’d pay an illegal immigrant or a visa holder, pay to relocate someone from one part of the country to another, provide company specific training or an apprentice program. But the Americans workers are there.

He didn’t say that. The citation from his speech is in this thread. He also mentioned the Middle East. I think I read all kinds are coming across the border.

Yes, we are a melting pot I would think. I think I even saw that term has come under scrutiny lately per the PC politically correct crowd though I don’t see why it could be offensive.

We do need to care about those in the nation who need jobs as well.

There is too much permissive “cheap” talk regarding boundaries and limits - it has become an epidemic among people who are not held responsible for the result. The issue of an open border has been allowed to fester, unresolved, and become a danger to the American people.
Corrupt and self serving individuals have exploited people through all manner of evils and an undefended entrance to our country has been a “silent” partner.

Mr. Trump is not a clown or a buffoon and many people understood what he had to say. I sure did. He was speaking with plain talk, backed with sincere description, of a deliberate,
politically influenced, disaster for our country. He earned a big “thank you” for telling it like it is. The crybabies cry “you insulted all Mexicans”! They can sit down and be quiet for a change. The attention they feel “entitled” to has over taxed the solid American people. We need grown-up people in charge! (7 years ago!)

The crybabies you are talking about are largely Spanish people. I’m glad they have intelligent people like you to tell them what they should be insulted by. Yes the Mexican’s can sit down and be quiet while the white man is telling them what to feel. I’m sorry that you are overtaxed by people calling out racism.

Don’t kid yourself. We all understand perfectly well what Trump was talking about.

Perhaps??? Perhaps you can point out where I said any such thing.

So, he was pandering?

Trump is like a poor person’s version of what a rich person acts like. He’s like one of those people that wins millions of dollars in the lottery, but blows it on garbage, bad deals, women, et. al. and goes bankrupt. The difference is that Trump has a safety net.
