I am ok with that.
Yeah, me too šŸ˜ƒ
Not me. I have a problem with the govā€™t strong arming a company to get their way, even if i may like the end result of jobs staying in the US. There are reasons companies leave the country, how about we fix the issues that make them want to leave instead of threatening loss of future business to the parent company.

Itā€™s not strong arming them if they reach a compromise or make a deal.

Althoughā€¦I have a problem with a government that fines people for not having insurance.

So I guess we are even.

Compromise? smells like strong arm tactics to me, assuming that is what actually went on, we donā€™t actually know we are just reacting to something DaveBj put out there as a possibility.

By the way, I also have a problem with the government forcing people to buy a product then fining them if they donā€™t. I think Obamacare needs to go, sooner the better. why do you assume i donā€™t have a problem with Obamacare because i have a problem with government using strong arm tactics or coercion to get its way?

People need to remember companies like this when July 4th rolls around each year and they all try to out do one another in their advertising, trying to make people believe they are so patriotic and proud to be a US company. lol

Im sorry, but if you own a company and have to resort to near slave labor to be successful, there is something wrong with your business, or GREED is just the top priority to them no matter what the cost.

Thatā€™s not really true. A business owner is still bound by what their competition is doing. If the competition is utilizing near slave labor which allows them to sell their product much lower than you can, your choices are either utilize the same workforce or shut down.

1000 Americans still having jobs is GOOD news for our economy. There is no need to move to Mexico.

Iā€™ve read no fewer than seven articles on this news and have seen no evidence whatsoever of strong-arm tactics being employed to save these jobs.

I think itā€™s safe to say that with more than 1,000 jobs on the line and only 1,000 are reported to remain here in the US that a compromise was indeed realized.

Or what about Disney who fired dozens of their American IT staff so that they could hire Indian IT people at half the cost, who were brought here on a visa program intended for people who had skills American workers didnā€™t possess - and the American staff were payed a bonus if they stayed long enough to train the Indian replacements?

Trump isnā€™t even president yet though, so I think itā€™s something.
Is it really logical to expect Trump to personally micromanage the individual staff hiring/layoffs and production plans of numerous individual corporations, throughout the tenure of his presidency ?

Who said anything about that? Wow, I think you are the one making this into something it isnā€™t.

A drop in the bucket to Millie123, but a huge relief for those 1000 workers, their 1000 families, but who cares?
Who says I donā€™t care about people keeping their jobs? In my own personal family situation my own husband has been layed off twice. So yes, I empathize and sympathize with families who have undergone the stress of corporate layoffs on a personal level.

It wasnā€™t pressure. It was a bribe. ā€œA source, who is familiar with the plan, said state incentives are part of the deal.ā€
Itā€™s just a temp fix. Doesnā€™t make any business sense to hire long-term when labor is much cheaper in Mexico. What will they do next year after the subsidy runs out?

Reminds me of the deal that was made to keep the White Sox in Chicago back in 87.

Ha, donā€™t remember that. I only got back into baseball this year because of the Cubs. I just hopped on the bandwagon lol

Did the Sox threaten to move? Might they again someday? Before the Rays, the Indians threatened once to move to St Petersburg. FL not Russia. And if memory serves me correct, New Orleans. But I can envision more corporations now threatening to move to Mexico to get corporate govt welfare. Not exactly imho a long term workable and sustainable economic strategy for long term economic success to make America even greater than it already is. But hey it provides a good photo op.

Nothing wrong with making a deal by offering a little corporate welfare!
If this had been Obama, some of the same people gushing over this, would be howling about interference in the free market and private enterprise.

Honest question

How can one see keeping jobs in the US as a bad thing without seeing unemployment as a good thing ?

Those whose jobs would have moved to Mexico would not have packed up and moved to Mexico to keep them.

How can one tout free market at the expense of our own workersā€™ livelihoods and proceed to complain about the tax system benefiting the wealthy ?

It just seems that the incomes of the owners and CEOs of these large corporations are all that matters when we frown upon our elected officials attempting to curtail unemployment.
