Despite what people say, I think Trump’s main problem is that he isn’t schooled in the narrowness of “permitted” political discourse. Every now and then some other politicial will “put his/her foot in it” and the media goes nuts over it. I too think Hillary’s barking like a dog was ridiculous and unpresidential, but to have it on TV night after night? Whatever she said before or after it was lost.

Add to that the fact that the candidates, by and large, only speak in platitudes and talking points, carefully crafted by others, but devoid of practical meaning. I am so weary of Cruz going on about the Constitution I could throw up into my mouth every time I hear him do it. Yes, we know there’s a Constitution, and we know Obama ignores it. But my goodness, doesn’t Cruz’ writers know about anything else?

And Hillary Clinton going on about women about whom she cares nothing, and “free college” which she will never deliver on and will never mention again when she beats Sanders.

We allow ourselves to get trained by the media to constrain our own thoughts; to think in the ways they tell us we must, and we actually comply. We didn’t always. Harry Truman could (and did) turn the air blue with profanity and scatology. Notwithstanding that practically every ten-year-old in America now salts his conversation with the “F” word, we have all been trained to regard harsh language with horror if delivered by a politician. We have all been trained to think we’re at a tea party in the Hamptons, and the politicians have to play the same part.

Truman, again, openly threatened a music critic with a black eye, a nosebleed, and a hernia for criticizing his daughter’s performance. Lyndon Johnson used to put visiting dignitaries at unease by insisting on talking to him while Johnson was seated on the commode doing his duty.

“S.O.B” was one of JFK’s favorite epithets, and he sometimes said it openly.

And does anybody really believe any of these politicians have coherent strategies? Remember Hillary Clinton’s horrific mishandling of the war on Libya? Remember her laughing about Khaddaffi’s death-by-torture? Does anybody really think Cruz is serious about his flat tax? He isn’t, and he knows he isn’t. Kasich, I think, is probably capable of actually having coherent policy positions. But I don’t think anyone else does.

So Trump speaks generalities about “making America great again” without having a coherent policy statement like those who purport to have them, but really don’t. Next January, somebody will be in the White House, in charge of the massive thing we call the federal government; as irresponsible and wasteful an organization as ever existed on this planet.

Are we really going to put a person in it who has sold out her country for the sake of garnering millions for her husband’s speeches, and could engineer the biggest sellout this country ever saw? What’s the “speech price” to Saudi Arabia for sending a U.S. cruise missile into Iran or sinking an Iranian ship bound for Yemen? When it came time for Obama to buy her, did anybody really not know why she wanted Secretary of State? Or are we going to put in a person who talks a lot about the Constitution and flat taxes and Christianity but has exhibited no expertise in doing anything except winning elections by doing it? Maybe we’ll hire an actual manager this time instead. For my money, the only ones who imaginably fit that description now are Kasich and (oh yes) Trump.
I voted Kasich in our primary, which was quite early. I remember well what he accomplished when in Congress and see what he has done in Ohio. No, he is not a hard-nosed conservative, but with his skills and experience, he is conservative enough for me at this point in time. Wish more folks would look at his record.

This is from an online poll of 468 Republican Donald Trump supporters, seems like a small sample, but anyway:
“If it’s a close election, this is devastating news” for the Republicans, said Donald Green, an expert on election turnout at Columbia University.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted March 30 to April 8 asked Trump’s Republican supporters two questions: if Trump wins the most delegates in the primaries but loses the nomination, what would they do on Election Day, and how would it impact their relationship with the Republican Party?
Sixty-six percent said they would vote for the candidate who eventually wins the nomination, while the remaining third were split between a number of alternatives such as not voting, supporting a third-party candidate, and switching parties and voting for the Democratic nominee.
Meanwhile, 58 percent said they would remain with the Republican Party. Another 16 percent said they would leave it, and 26 percent said they did not know what they would do with their registration. The online poll of 468 Republican Trump supporters has a credibility interval of 5.3 percentage points.

I agree with above on Kasich.

Ridgerunner, I agree that campaigns are insanely limited in terms of message, over packaged, etc. I have never enjoyed an election for this reason - it is all nonsense, even the platform. I don’t think Trump’s vulgar, illiterate, Apprentice spin is more entertaining - it sends me into a tizzy. I am not alone in that.

I think you have to almost become an independent political strategist, psychologist, detective. Really see through candidates to what their real motivations, skills, experience amount to. I think Kasich is the best out there; then Cruz. But if we put up Kasich, both the Cruz AND Trump people walk I am afraid. Cruz can pull enough Trump and Kasich support. We have to go conservative here, not "moderate.’ Trust me, if we end up with Kasich I will vote for him.

I do think Trump has real not fake anger management issues and he is very thin-skinned. He has a huge ego and is argumentative. I don’t think he can handle diplomacy or knows how to back down when needed and I don’t think he has any sort of ethical core or set of beliefs. He negotiates. Period. At least Cruz idealizes the Constitution rather than big business. I can relate to him more. I have a love of the Founding Fathers, etc. Cruz has a great education - Havard isn’t it - he is smart, calculating. That is not warm and fuzzy but frankly I couldn’t care less. I have no illusions that politicians are people you want to have a beer with. As your buddy Truman once said - he is a bastard, but he is our bastard. That is me with Cruz. 🙂

Below is a very interesting article from yesterday on what is up in Pennsylvania. It talks about Trump’s issues there and Kasich. Check it out.

Agree here. Have never liked Trump but the more I see of his behavior on this campaign the more appalled I have become especially his tirade after Ted Cruz’s win in Wisconsin.
Very unbecoming the statement his campaign put out, at least in my view. Honestly I don’t think he has the temperament to occupy the White House, and I have not been impressed by him in the debates and have heard nothing of substance from him when he talks, either.
I originally was a strong Rubio Supporter, have switched to Cruz, like Cruz a lot but I like Kasich too.
I would have no problem with either Cruz or Kasich as the nominee but I’m going to have a true dilemma if Trump becomes the nominee.
I can’t in any way shape or form see me voting for Hillary, or Bernie Sanders for that matter, staying home is a vote for the Dems, too.
I’m hoping I’m wrong about Trump’s true nature, but as time goes on, it becomes more obvious that he is not Presidential material, in my opinion.
The only hope I have is perhaps he would pick a serious experience VP candidate and cabinet members should he win the election- We already know what we would get with Hillary.

Before you conclude that Cruz stooped to Trump’s level, read this.
To counter your list I can come up with a slew of good things trump has done and said, as well as a list of lies cruz has told. But then you’d accuse of me of demagoguery again.

So I’ll just say, for all his crudeness Trump has never threatened to kill anyone.

cnn.com/2016/04/09/politics/michigan-republican-delegates-ted-cruz-donald-trump-john-kasich/

Ted Cruz suffered a rare convention loss Saturday after delegates backing John Kasich and Donald Trump boxed him out of key positions in the Michigan delegation.

The Texas senator’s campaign ran eight delegates for eight committee spots and lost every one, alleging it was “double-crossed” by Kasich supporters.

“The most important votes occurred this afternoon – we went 5-0. Five delegates for Mr. Trump ran for committee assignments; all five were elected,” Jack said.
He added, “This was a big win for Team Trump. We won 25 delegates from Michigan last month, and now, at least 25 supporters of Mr. Trump will be delegates to the Republican National Convention.”

Looks like trump campaign is learning fast.

I always amazes me how it is alright to make accusations against certain people, even about what they would do. Goodbye.

Forgive me for not wording my post correctly. I should have said, I’m afraid you might accuse me of demagoguery again.

I have to wonder how Trump would get along with the Pope who is very influential in humanitarianism? Does Trump feel anything towards all those children in the world who are dying agonizing deaths due to malnourishment? If the elections came down to Clinton or Trump, I wonder which one the Church would choose?

Probably neither.

Trump got duped by a guy on twitter who pretends to be a supporter.
Still…

“Beyond that, it defies belief. Organizing a million people to send emails is hard enough to accomplish, and that doesn’t require getting postcards into peoples’ hands. A million postcards means distributing a million physical objects to a million people who actually send them in to an agreed upon destination. It’s extremely hard to believe that this could be accomplished without a lot of people being aware of it. People like, say, folks who write about politics for The Washington Post. Seems like it would have popped up on my radar screen. What makes this particularly tricky is the fact that the postcards are printed with the wrong address.”

It’s actually kind of funny and sad at the same time. Oh, yeah, and kind of scary, too, when one considers Donald Trump is the Republican front runner.
