I’m a European, too, even though I live in the US now. I grew up in Europe and spent most of my 20s there. I have a big problem with the lack of gun laws in the US, too. I, too, believe Obama genuinely wants to restrict access to guns, and I feel for him when the GOP simply refuses to work with him on that issue out of sheer stubbornness.
Didn’t you say you studied at the university of Zurich? What are Swiss gun laws like?

Abortion, of course, is an integral part of it and was the initial slip down the “slippery slope” to a broader culture of death. And it is most definitely the biggest part of the killing.
Abortion has not gone down a slippery slope, though. It’s actually declined 13% under Obama. Some states are enacting laws against it. It’s contraceptives that ushered in the “culture of death” and the slippery slope as predicted by Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae.

Textbook case of “moving the goalposts”.

First “culture of death” has “nothing to do” with abortion. Now you’re changing your tune.
No, you’re attempting to deflect. Won’t work. Not with me.

Can we stop with the “culture of death” thing? You know as well as I do that St. Pope John Paul II coined the phrase to refer to rampant secularism and degrading morality; it had nothing at all to do with abortion.
Would you prefer of Death?

“That does not surprise me much,” the archbishop said. "At this point the Democratic Party risks transforming itself definitely into a ‘party of death’ because of its choices on bioethical questions

Thanks, I was hoping to hear of your experience, more so than a link to a site.

That’s fine.
Well, then, I never saw one gun or heard of anyone being interested in hunting while I was there, and I traveled all over Switzerland. I do believe the members of the Swiss Army keep their weapons at home, but I don’t know for sure. People just weren’t interested in guns. I didn’t even lock my doors at night. In the neighborhood where I lived there had only been one murder, and that was an immigrant who killed his wife to steal the money she was depositing in the bank’s night deposit. People said it was the only murder that had ever occurred in that neighborhood. I did see one gun shop in Zuerich, but I never went inside.

There was just no interest in guns. I presume the Army had some interest in them, and maybe the police, but I don’t know. I didn’t know anyone in the Army or on the police force.

I prefer to hear from a bishop who wasn’t demoted, but everyone is entitled to his or her view. I disagree with him, but that’s fine.

Well, of course. Abortion and euthanasia are a part of a decaying morality, but St. Pope JP II used “culture of death” in a wider sense. You know it, I know it, just about everyone knows it.
But you said:

But you said:
It began because of contraception. It will not stop until people stop contracepting. The pro-life movement will accomplish little as long as contraception is around. And that comes partly from Pope Paul VI, not me.

So far, I have learned that Trump is the perfect candidate by his own admission, from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. He loves and cherishes everyone, including women, Mexicans, Hispanics in general, Muslims, everyone. He has more energy than Hillary, who, according to what he said this morning, lacks the energy to take care of women. He dislikes terrorism and wants to eliminate ISIS. Imagine that! He will build the Great Wall of Mexico and Mexico will gladly pay for it. He believes we can either have a country or not, and that means only legal immigration. But the illegals will eventually come back. He will get rid of Common Core in education and give control to the local communities and the parents, who, after all, are the real experts in education. He is pro-life with three exceptions, which he would like to be part of the GOP platform. He will be presidential at the right time, so presidential that he will be boring and we will want him to go back to the way he used to be. And most of all, most of all, he will “Make America Great Again”! Now, I ask you, can any of you beat that?

Well, at least it beats having the country’s interests sold to whoever pays Bill Clinton the most in “speaking fees”. Hillary Clinton is just too expensive for the country to afford.

I was just putting the finishing touches on my post. You jumped the gun. Never mind Hillary. So you agree with my commentary about Trump?

BTW, Happy 90th Birthday to Queen Elizabeth!

BTW, Happy 90th Birthday to Queen Elizabeth!
Being half Irish and having listened to my Irish grandmother’s stories about Ireland, it’s hard for me to wish the Queen a happy birthday. However, in the interests of repairing relations with England after the “return of Churchill” incident, and realizing she’ll not be repeating the occupation of Ireland, Happy Birthday to the Queen.

No, I don’t agree with your post about Trump because it’s “spun”, though I think that was tongue in cheek. But do I think he’s a non-ideologue, purely functional kind of person? Yes I do.

I’m on the side of the Holy Father.
No, you’re not.

Aware of the U.N.'s contrary positions on many life issues, Pope Francis today challenged 29 heads of U.N. agencies to resist the “throwaway culture” and the** “culture of death”** which, he said, “nowadays sadly risk becoming passively accepted.”

It is one of the few times - if not the first - that Francis has used the term “culture of death” which was first coined by St. John Paul II in his 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae. John Paul defined the term as the “war of the powerful against the weak”, characterized by a society that lacks solidarity, and fostered by “powerful cultural, economic and political currents which encourage an idea of society excessively concerned with efficiency.” He included within this culture many current social evils such as procured abortion, modern slaveries such as pornography and drug addiction, disdain for the poor, and euthanasia.

In today’s private audience at the Vatican with the United Nations Chief Executives Board and Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, the Pope said that **“an awareness of the dignity of each of our brothers and sisters whose life is sacred and inviolable from conception **to natural death must lead us to share with complete freedom the goods which God’s providence has placed in our hands.”
