It also guarantees your right to have a safe, legal abortion.
Actually it doesn’t. That “right” was invented out of the whole cloth. The majority didn’t find it there because they couldn’t. So they invented the “penumbra” in which to “find” it because it wasn’t actually there.

The right to keep and bear arms is right there in plain language.

Much different.

Could you point out exactly where that is? No need to be too specific - just the section or amendment would be sufficient.
When one invents “penumbras” to find it in, one can invent anything one wants around just about any part of it one wants.

The right to keep and bear arms applies to members of a “well regulated militia” which most people do not belong to.

To be fair, the personal right to bear arms comes from exactly the same place as the right to abortion - the legal opinion of five justices. Many disagree with each ruling, but both are currently the law of the land.

Not really a good comparison. The justices in Roe had to invent a “penumbra” to find the right to abortion, meaning, of course, that it isn’t there in words. And it isn’t.

On the other hand “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be abridged,” might be explained away by some strained interpretation, but it’s right there in black and white. It was not without a textual foundation like the “right to abortion” was.

Where is abortion mentioned in the Constitution?

NOT actually true.

Look it up.
“Militia” at the time were just citizens who had a duty to appear armed when called. Their weapons were their own.

Now, one might argue that we no longer have any need for militias, and therefore there is no need for anyone to keep and bear arms. Nevertheless, in my state at least, every able bodied person between the ages of 17 and 64 is subject to being called to militia service by the governor or the adjutant general. The statutes make a distinction between the “organized militia” (national guard) and the “unorganized militia” (everybody else of the proper ages who is not a minister or disabled). If you’re not in the former, you’re automatically in the latter.

Yes, potential enemies are a long way off, geographically. But they were even more distant in relative terms when the Constitution was written.

Seems to me an armed citizenry was exactly what the drafters of the Constitution had in mind.

My 84-year-old aunt, a lifelong South Carolina Republican, voted for (and supports) Trump because she thinks he is the only one with a shot to beat Hillary.

I think that attitude pushes Trump’s popularity with Republican voters of all stripes. He at least has the name recognition that HRC does and he’s happy to play in the mud. Lots of Republicans are #neverHillary types and I think that mentality makes Trump appealing no matter where he actually stands (and who really knows where he does) on the issues.
I guess I can understand how a certain fraction of the GOP just wants to nominate whoever has the best chance of beating HRC no matter what – not that I agree with that thinking, just understand it.

But what I can’t understand is how they believe Trump when he says “I can beat Hillary”. It’s just so ludicrous to me.

Making sure anyone who wants an education and can learn can get that education.

Making sure everyone in the US has affordable health care that covers medical, vision, and dental expenses. Too many people do not think dental health is a part of general health, but it is. And dentists’ fees have now rendered dental care something “only for the rich.” Even dental insurance doesn’t cover much but routine cleanings.

Making sure no one is homeless even if you have to take the homeless into your own home and feed and clothe them.

Making sure no on goes to bed hungry.

Making sure everyone has a bed!

Making sure jobs that pay a living wage are available to all.

I believe the pro-life movement, in advocating that all the unborn be brought into the world, are obligated to ensure all of the above even if they have to pay some of the bills personally.

And, please tell me how you know what I know about euthanasia? I’ve been a hospice volunteer all my grown life - so far. Please don’t make assumptions about what I know and what I don’t know and what I think. Thank you.
And tell me how you know what the pro-life movement and rather those involved in the pro-life movement are or aren’t doing, in other words please don’t make assumptions about what they do and don’t do and/or what they’re all about. Thank you!!!

p.s. And for pro-aborts to criticize the pro-life movement for not caring enough about the babies they save is the biggest crock of BS with a nice helping of hypocrisy I’ve heard in a long while.

Besides myself, are any Republicans here amazed by how hard Dems try to push us into nominating Donald Trump?

What has always surprised me the most in my years on CAF is the amount of venom directed at those of us in the pro-life ministry . You expect it on a public board but a Catholic Forum?

No But they had better be careful what they wish for I think they underestimate the amount
of anger towards politicians and underestimate how unpopular Hillary is

Not I. I would prefer Ted Cruz as the nominee since I think he would be considerably easier for Hillary Clinton to beat than Donald Trump. However, if Trump has the delegates, I am sure you would agree that as a matter of fairness, he should be the nominee. I must also add that in terms of sheer political excitement, a Trump-Clinton contest would be so much better.

Personally, I’m repulsed by what I’ve just had to respond to.
