What’s the good of getting behind Romney and then losing?

I don’t know. What’s the good of getting behind Trump and losing A) all swing states, B) some solid Republican states, C) The Presidency D) Possibly the Senate or House, E) Many key State Elections, F) Control of the Supreme Court, and G) any self-respect Republicans had remaining? Seems like Romney wasn’t so bad, comparatively.

I believe that Donald Trump will protect the unborn. His campaign said so themselves. I believes he cares about them and wants to end abortion.

Well I’m a moderate Republican, so I never really understood how Romney was “so bad” anyhow. But that aside, I very often hear the assertion that Trump can beat HRC … so perhaps the real question is, How many times can people hear something before they start to believe it?

Trump is greatly disliked by many conservatives. So how can he win?

I’m a moderate republican as well.

I thought Romney was not a bad candidate. I would have thought he could have attracted many independents. I didn’t think he was as extreme as Obama. He lost anyway.

I’m thinking there is somewhat of a disconnect in the republican party in general. I thought Jeb was good and Rubio.

I don’t think Trump or Cruz would win, but I think one of them should be the nominee. They filed the papers, they raised the money, they have been doing the work. It wouldn’t be right to deny them the right to try to win in the general. And who knows what will happen? None of us have a crystal ball to see into the future. The best we can do are educated guesses.

Rubio didn’t show up for work 75% of the time. The presidency is not a job where a man or woman can “be out” 75% of the time.

Well said.

Plus it cuts both ways: some right wingers only half heartedly support a moderate, and some moderates only half heartedly support a right winger. It has also been suggested that the GOPe doesn’t like Cruz any better than Trump, but I think that’s an exaggeration.

You also have to take into consideration all the liberal Dem posters who say “I don’t like Trump but …” and then will do whatever they can to help him get the GOP nomination. (Not that all of them do that of course.)

When CAF isn’t getting soundly behind the GOP candidate (assuming that will be Trump) it can’t be good news at all for the GOP.

There was nearly universal approval of Romney in 12’ by Conservatives.

If Trump becomes the candidate he will be trounced. Maybe even Dukakis-style.

The GOP seems to know this thus their scrambling to have any candidate but Trump.

If Trump loses, it’s in a year where the GOP has the advantage, as it’s following 8 years of Obama in an open seat election, and his approval ratings aren’t the greatest. I feel Kasich could win, Rubio could win, Romney could win, Paul Ryan could win, etc.

I’m not at all convinced that Trump could even plausibly win. Outside of his base 35-40% of the Republican vote, he doesn’t seem to have a real fan base. He’s even isolating social conservatives now. The fact that he’s against Hillary (a rather weak candidate in her own right for many reasons) is the only reason he has even a small chance right now.

Most true conservatives did not believe Romney was conservative enough. Some voters could not bring themselves to vote for a Mormon. Trump is nor perceived as conservative. But who knows? His positions change faster than the weather.
