I think i’ve told you before, that he’s making good progress on what he promised,
with what he controls.

Illegal immigration is down 70% and they are adding more temp legal visas.
Whether or not we ever get a ‘wall’ he is delivering on his promise here.

Our NATO allies are now committed to honor their word and increase their defense spending. Given time this will take pressure off the US as the sole world policeman.

Healthcare and tax reform are still to be done, but I put more responsibility for that on Congress. If they don’t take action, there will be repercussions come reelection season.

He’s also still on the hook for tangible results in ‘cleaning out the swamp’.

I’d argue that these are the people who need to insist that he clean up the stuff they’ve been conceding so that he has a better chance of doing what they hope he will do.

If they keep giving him a mulligan on very avoidable mistakes, he’ll stay on a course that promises to be very disappointing. They should not blame anyone else for that. Trump has never let others make excuses, he’s said a President with a majority in Congress ought to get things done or take the responsibility (I can provide tweet quotes, for those who dispute this) and it does not make sense that he is having so many excuses made for him now. Criticizing after the fact will do no good; it will be impotent blaming at that point.

How many Republicans voted for the ACA? But the Dems still were able to pass it. And the Republican majority was only shooting for 50 votes this time not 60.

Health care is a top issue currently and I agree both parties should work together to help solve the issue and come up with something affordable. It’s difficult as medical costs are skyrocketing yearly, malpractice premiums are astronomical for some professions such as Obstetricians, and people tend to sue if anything goes wrong… It’s a complex issue and the solution is difficult.

I pray that on this pressing issue a solution can be found quickly.

Healthcare costs have always gone up. And under the latest McConnell skinny repeal, costs were projected to go up 20% a year. In just 5 yrs that would be another 100%. So there ya go. Until everyone is covered so costs can be spread around, I’m not sure that will ever change. I’ve seen arguments on this forum comparing health insurance to auto insurance. The argument seems to go along this line… Drivers with accidents pay more. So why shouldn’t the sick? I think it is a sad commentary on our society and I believe on a Christian forum when we start comparing human beings (sick ones or potentially sick ones at that which everyone will be at some point if they haven’t been or aren’t already) with a motor vehicle.

McCain in his speech emphasized the need for the Senate to return to regular order. Not for a few Republicans to sit in Mitch’s backroom office. Democrats at the table? What bothers me the most is his relentless hurling of insults against his own party as well as allies all over the world which we took decades to build up and gain trust. Maybe he’s learned his lesson as McCain finally had a chance to retaliate in his own way. But I doubt it. America is as vulnerable to attack as any time in its history if not more. And what’s its leader doing about it?

Nobody thinks congress has been doing their job, for a couple decades I’d say.

I have no qualms with Congress being insulted for their failure to act prudently. I don’t agree with everything Trump is pushing, but I don’t object to his alternative efforts to cajole congress into action. Being polite won’t overcome the power of lobbyists.

I agree with you that we need everyone covered to spread the cost around. Young people need to be in the pool as well and last year I knew a few young guys 20 or 21 who said it was cheaper to pay the tax penalty than the 200 dollar a month premiums they were looking at. They worked at a local convenience shop and said it was unaffordable at their minimum wage salaries.

We have the sick and uninsured in Emergency Rooms for ear infections and minor ailments which is so expensive because of course they can’t be turned away.

It’s a big problem and the answer will be expensive in my opinion no matter how it washes out.

I pray for all to have access to affordable health care.

The democrats gave us the mess of ACA, so they should want to fix it. So many Americans were
hoping to get rid of the mandate so they wouldn’t have to pay the fine because they
don’t want to be forced to buy Obama care, but the democrats have made sure they will pay one way or
another! You can’t have healthcare for everyone and not have healthcare costs go
up. After seeing what happened to Charlie Hard and his family, I don’t want the same
healthcare England has! The democrats made the mess, but now they don’t want to
take responsibility for the failure it is.

I had an eye surgery that went wrong. Which btw it was paid for in cash because I know what it is like not to have had insurance. Former Baltimore Orioles MLB pitcher Jim Palmer and of Jockey underwear fame, who could afford the best lawyers, sued when his same surgery by the same dr went wrong. He was awarded $890,000 in damages. Little ol’ me? I didn’t sue. And I have basically no use of that eye and actually need a couple more eye surgeries.

The first part that suck out to me was creating competition with insurers. Heck insurers are pulling out left and right because they can’t afford the health care costs.

John McCain has brain cancer. He is acutely aware of how important it is to have affordable healthcare. In my humble opinion, Mr. McCain has been liberated from politics, and he is voting his conscience on behalf of the people of AZ. It is good to practice gratitude.

Thanks, Mary, for this post. Not because we agree on something but because it made so much sense. I agree about young people and that people pay the penalty because it is cheaper. I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But it indeed is going to be expensive to ensure everyone has affordable healthcare. The alternative seems unacceptable to me. Now I admittedly can be a big sap IRL and I was actually sitting here with my eyes watering thinking about it after reading your post. So forgive me if I sometimes seem over passionate on the issue. But I’ve been voting my whole life with this issue in mind. And I will keep praying along with you that’s for sure. God bless.
