I am afraid of fires, but laugh at earthquakes (grew up in SF, what can I say). Hurricanes and tornadoes seem to cause hundreds of deaths every year, more than terrorists.

I vote that we ban all acts of God for 90 days while we review our current policy.
I grew up in Kansas and for 20 years I was never injured in a tornado! Those are good odds!

I like your idea! 👍

What I’m “selling” is simple logic. If you have a swing set for your children to play on, if you ever use hot tap water, if you ever spend time around cows, or if you ever wear clothing, you’re at far, far greater odds of dying than via the hands of a refugee terrorist. Have you removed your swing set, grown accustomed to cold showers, sworn off farming, and become a nudist? If not, why not? There is a risk calculation in all such things. The fact that people are willing to accept the reasoned threat assessment for swing sets and hot water but not other human beings – particularly when these other human beings are far LESS likely to kill you – should be what’s worrisome.

If logic isn’t respected and “many people on these forums” aren’t “buying” it, that doesn’t speak badly of logic…
And yet, there are countries in which one’s chances of being killed or assaulted by a terrorist are far higher than here. That’s largely due to the greater presence in those places of people from which the terrorists spring due to indoctrination.

And yet, there are those who advocate that greater presence here when it can be prevented.

It didn’t help, its a dumb argument because all those things serve a purpose we cant go without. Every single data point we have shows that reducing guns saves lives.
Not every single data point.

The murder rate in Chicago, with its strict gun laws is far greater than it is in Montana, where there are virtually none.

And if you were out at night where I live and could hear the pitter-patter of coyote feet around you in the dark or the scream of a mountain lion, or if you were in a mesquite thicket in Texas where feral hogs would just as soon eat you as look at you, you wouldn’t think guns to be so useless.
