Trying to choose a name!!

Well, we are trying to decide on a name for our newest little one that is on the way. My 3 year old desperately wants to name the baby “Alligatorie”, which I am a firm ‘no’ on. 😛

Personally, I don’t like giving my children an official name until I see their little face! I don’t want to risk my parents getting attached to a name, so I don’t plan on sharing with my family or friends the names that we are considering. So what better place than a lovely, relatively anonymous forum like this one? 😃

So here are the names we have in the running.

-Louisa Corrine - (My mom’s middle name is Louise, my Mother-in-law’s name is Corrine)
-Theresa Rose - (After Saint Therese, and my due date is the feast of St. Rose of Lima)
-Cora Louise (Cora as a shortening of ‘Corrine’, and Louise after my mom’s middle name)

What are your thoughts? Which do you like best? And I am of course open to suggestions! We like to stick with old fashioned names the most. 👍

I ❤️ Theresa Rose 🙂
 
I like naming her after your mom and mil to keep it in the family. If you do that the only problem is deciding which woman will be honored by giving your daughter her first name. That might be a problem.

You could name her Theresa or Rose as a first name and give her both mom and mil’s names for middle names to keep in the family. 😉
 
Well, St. Therese is my favorite, so I’d go with that one. I’ve also heard Tessa Rose in her honor, which is pretty and unusual.
OR, combine Louisa and Corrine…Lorrine, Corissa or Lorinna? That could be used as either a first or middle name.
 
Going to have to concur with the others. My best friend just gave his daughter the Gaelic version of Theresa as her middle name. My own daughter has Rose in her name as well. Definitely like it.
 
I might be a bit bias in faver of Theresa Rose because I had a grandmother named Theresa and aunt named Rose. :cool: 😃
 
Cora Louise

Naming after family is a great tradition. It gives them a connection to previous generations and it makes a closeness to their grandparent.
 
Theresa Rose. What better name to have than one that is after a wonderful saint and your birthday’s feastday?
 
I’m partial to Cora Louise.

I think the name Cora is very pretty.
 
I’m a little biased, as I have a 13mo daughter named Theresa Rose (we call her Rosie).

However, if you have any pull towards family-based names, think about using those first because there’s no guarantee you’ll have another chance to do so. In fact, my older brother and I are both named after our grandparents. I’m almost shocked my parents were creative enough to come up with names for my other siblings. 😛 I think your other choices are lovely, and they are unusual enough that you won’t hear a million of them (no joke, there are 3 - THREE - girls born in the past month or two to friends or acquaintances named Lorelei, plus the Harpers and Charlottes, and then you have the Catholic circles jumping on names like Gemma and Gianna and Kateri and Lucy like there’s no tomorrow. Not sure if sheer name numbers affect your decision at all, but there’s that).

I really like your first two choices,very pretty.😉
 
For most of this pregnancy, I have had my heart set on Louisa. I love the name, and I love the tribute to my mom. But Theresa (which is also a family name) came to mind while I was praying about it last week and I haven’t been able to stop thinking of it. I think it is lovely… but clearly, I like all three of the options which is why they are in the running. Cora is my husband’s vote. Oh boy, we have lots of thinking and praying to do. This part is so much fun! 😉
 
I would go with Theresa Rose. It’s a beautiful name after two beautiful saints. Were you going to give her a double name, or did you mean a first and middle name?

🙂 It would be a first and middle name, but I would likely still use it as a double name. With my daughter, her first name is Amelia and her middle name is Mary, but I often still call her “Amelia Mary”… and not just when she’s misbehaving. 😛
 
Double first names are cool. Our third, also a girl, coming in about two weeks will have a double first name. I just need to convince my wife that also including a double middle name is way too much…
 
A few premises and a conclusion:

I have a friend who has given all five of her daughters two middle names. The names all have a lovely lilt.
I am a fan of naming the child after the saint on whose feast he or she is born.
Another poster made a good point about favoring one grandmother over the other and how that could be problematic.

So why not something like Rose Louise Corinne?
 
Cora Louise is very pretty. “Theresa” is overly common in Catholic circles.

If you’re worried about seeming like you’re favoring one over the other, then the placement of the middle names will be problematic (“Why is HER name before MINE?” etc). She did change the names slightly when they were first names, and since Louise is actually her mother’s middle name, it’s a much less direct homage.

As I had mentioned before, my older brother and I are both named after our grandparents. However, my parents alternated which family side came first. My brother is paternal GF + maternal GF, and I am maternal GM + paternal GM. No one complained. Both are getting honored, anyway.
