Well, we are feeling the effects of it now. And just recently this was in the L.A. Times:

It highlights how so much has been put on hold even possibly scientific breakthroughs. There are consequences for putting such things on hold.

Of course, they must be discussed, but the problem is not many people are discussing this in a rational manner devoid of polemics.

Yep that is a problem, as is the problem of discussing them without specificity.

The mortality rate for SARS-CoV is almost at 10% I’ve never heard any scientist suggesting the death rate for Covid-19 would be so high. And the gap between 0.1 to 10% is quite large, therefore stating the estimates have been borne out is quite the stretch. The only thing we knew for certain is that it was deadlier and more infectious than the flu, but the estimates for how high it would get were never above 5% and that really early on. Now estimates are far lower, even Dr. Fauci never put it above 2% in the early stages of quarantine or rather early March.
The estimates in later February/early March were that the mortality rates (I don’t recall discussions of morbidity rates) would be between that of seasonal flues and SARS-CoV, and that its transmissible would be more typical of flu - much greater than MERS. All of these estimates have been borne out.

Easier said then done for those not ill. But for People who are suffering, their life is on the line from threatening and/or debilitating illnesses because cures are being put on hold.

You had linked to an article about some scientists CA and IL whose work was interrupted for some months. Are you familiar with research on COVID-19 therapeutics that have been put on hold?

If one were to look at the lockdown strictly from the perspective of partisan ideology, one would think the Democrats are super wealthy and don’t need to worry about the economy while Republicans alone are taking the brunt.

Somehow that particular narrative is twisted. So, I guess the only way to think about it is that the Democrats are worried about lives lost to this virus, and the Republicans are worried more for the economy…the only thing that makes any sense because there is nothing else. If you’re told to evacuate in a storm, you do it don’t you?

Even as someone who detests the Democratic Party, this seems true as days go by.

Never let a good crisis go to waste…
All over the world we are enduring lockdowns the best we can knowing that lives are spared that way, hoping for vaccines and cures for a deadly illness and you accuse us of wanting a ‘good crisis’. Sheesh. The sheer gall.

I have no idea what goes on in Ireland.I referring to the Dems powers that be here in Wa.

The constant citing of that saying is tiring. It doesn’t show understanding of the corporate-state relationship which is prevalent under both parties. And it doesn’t show understanding of the way economic crises unfold and the dangers inherent in them.

If the dems are wanting what the rest of the world is wanting and the Repulicans are wanting what is pretty universally regarded as death road, I think that demonstrates a strange longing for maximum chaos.

The death of our economy is a dire prospect.Peoplevare frantic about not working having money to,provide for food and shelter. We cannot hide forever.

We aren’t hiding ‘forever’. China has come out of it. Italy and Spain are coming out of it. I don’t know which donkey has been telling you it’s forever but I’d switch channels.
