speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into TIM’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Here’s an email I just sent out over the weekend:

Dear family and friends, here’s a quick update on the results of visit to Memorial Sloan-Kettering yesterday. (MSK)

It was well worth the wait! We received two things we really needed: OPTIONS and HOPE! Above and beyond that we also got many new insights into what we’re living with. The doctors at MSK were amazing, in fact the whole place is amazing and they treat everyone with respect and compassion. They explained to us about the clinical trials and I am an excellent candidate to go this route. There are several standard, existing chemos out there that will fight my cancer and my cancer should respond by shrinking - but only for a certain amount of time. So one good approach is to leave those chemos on the back-burner as backup, and try some of the new experimental chemos.
That route is being used to extend people’s lives and as a bonus, many of the new drugs have less side effects. So it is treating this terminal cancer as a chronic condition (as long as possible).

Many of these new drugs are available in trials at MSK, but Dr. also said many are available at Fox Chase much closer to home. She knows I am willing and able to go to NYC, but she is checking with Fox Chase to see if
I can do trials closer to home. Whomever has the drug / trial most suited to me and my cancer, is what Dr. will recommend to me. She also values the power of family and friends being around the cancer patient, so if two
trials are similar, and one is closer to home, she would recommend that one.
In fact, this Monday, Dr. will be in touch with my doctor in Paoli (who she says has given excellent care from day one) and she will also be in touch with the Clinical Trials doctors at Fox Chase. (And yes, even Penn
could get involved since Dr. assistant, just did her
residency at Penn and has contacts there). In short, I now have team of experts deciding my next best option! I feel pretty lucky!

This is really wonderful news, Tim! My uncle developed advanced cancer in his thirties and by means of treatment at Sloan-Kettering he lived a happy and productive life well into his eighties. (Since he lived in the Metropolitan New York Area, that was the hospital the family decided on.) We’re all praying to G-d for your complete recovery, Tim.

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Amen .
Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place Tim under your care and humbly ask that you restore him to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us. Amen.
