All right, mike, let’s run this up the flagpole then.

What if everybody posting on this topic sent a nice ‘letter’. . .you know, the real kind, paper, written (or if not a graduate of the school of Palmer penmanship, printed in a nice legible script font on the old computer). . .to Mr. Hannity. In the nicest, least confrontational way, we point out (referencing the Catechism, Humanae Vitae, documents from the Vatican) what the Church’s teaching is on birth control as we understand it, tell him that we are praying for him as fellow Catholics, that we love him as a person, want him to be aware of this truth just as we want all people to know the truth, beg him to speak to a good and trusted priest, to listen attentively to God, asking humbly for His guidance, and close with sincere loving best wishes for him.

I’ll do it this afternoon, send it out c/o Fox News etc. In fact, I’ll even put in a nice holy card AND I’ll send a donation to American Life League and ask them for prayers for him as well.

If a few hundred letters like this started coming to Mr. Hannity I wonder if indeed it might move his heart. . .

I know many stories and one personal situation of the priest yelling in the confessional. That is wrong. No priest should ever yell at someone in the confessional. That is horrible judgment by a priest. Priests make mistakes, I live with three of them and they are great priests, but not perfect sources of judgment. They do receive very special graces from Christ and act in the person of Christ in the sacraments.

We should be careful your right, but that does not give them a free license to act as they will.

No-one said Priests should act as they will. Since Priests are human, they are sinners and are imperfect. Yet, their judgment is far greater then ours “if” they remain close to Christ and “if” they accept the Graces God gives to them. Some Priests ignore their gifts and wander into matters that are very grave, yet in thise case that is hardly what is happening.

The good Father tried to privately speak with Sean, and Sean has been speaking against the Church in this matter for many years…in this case the Priests took on an act of mercy for Sean’s soul and for the souls of all those listening/watching.

We do know why he said it in his letter to why he wrote the open letter to Sean Hannity.
Father Morris wrote the letter “as an analyst of [FOX] television network.” That speaks to why he wrote the letter. It’s of course speculation that he was invited to write the letter, but I’m fairly confident that writing “as an analyst,” he was invited to do so.

You are off topic – What at all does this have to do with Sean Hannity’s ill treatment of Fr. Euteneuer?

I’m not saying this will work, but I guarantee it’s better than confrontation and finger pointing. The latter method is an immediate turn-off to most people.

AMEN. As a famous priest has said it is no act of mercy to watch your neighbor skip and dance down the road to hell.

It is shockingly poor judgment for thousands of Priests to say and do nothing while millions of souls are placed in jeopardy. It is an act of mercy for a Priest to correct a person, and the good Father tried to correct Sean privately and Sean refused to respond. Priests have individual souls to care for, and yet they also have a coporate responsbility, meaning they must try to lessen the public scandal of someone like SH professing anti-Catholic beliefs. Every single time Sean goes against the faith, thousands, perhaps millions, of Catholics hear his voice and this countries citizens are entrenched in a culture of personality, falling often into a cult of personality.
I had a Priest who helped me see that my ways were wrong, my soul was in jeopardy, as is Sean Hannity’s. This post reminds me of my most favorite, most read passage from the Bible…Conversion of sinners James 5: 19-20
My brothers, if anyone among you should stray away from the truth, and someone bring him back, he should know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

sean Hannity will be VERY grateful for Fr. E someday. Is it not one of a Priests main jobs to convert sinners. As it is also for you and I. Yup, James 5:19-20 it’s a good one!!!

The story is not about finger pointing or confrontation. It is about a public figure who publicly denies a Church teaching and claims to be in full communion with the Church. Why is that very bad example to be left unchallenged?

Awesome! Thank you.

Indeed,

I have been corrected before, it never feels good and it is easy to become defensive, yet looking back upon it I sure am grateful.

I agree, I think most people are turned off by harsh tactics. Yet, I believe Father did that to Sean for two reasons:

(1) Sean appears to be a very stubborn and extremely strong willed person who will not listen to a reasoned argument.

(2) The public rebuke of Sean is a message to all people.

Yet, I believe Father did that to Sean for two reasons:
But he must take into consideration the effect that has on viewers. For me personally, if I did not understand where Father E was coming from, I would get a very poor impression of Catholics because of Sean and Fr. E. Thats me personally while others that know where he is coming from and why, may rejoice.

I agree. Looking ahead though, Father Euteneuer’s appearance on Sean Hannity’s program will be forgotten soon, but Sean Hannity will continue to be broadcast for some time into the future both on and television and radio. So this episode may shine not so brilliantly on Catholics interacting with Catholics, but in the long run, if Sean Hannity desists his public support of ABC due in part to Father Euteuneuer’s intercession, then Father is to be applauded. I sincerely hope this will be the case!

First thing is first, the grace of God will be applauded. I know Father E would even agree with me on that:thumbsup:

I agree, though there would also be many non-Catholics who would be impressed that there is still a place where the truth is held.

There is simply no method that will work with all people. Yet, imo, the Father’s method in this case would be very attractive to faithful Catholics who are tired of the Church not supporting its own teachings, it would be attractive to non-Catholics looking for the truth taught by a Church in a strong un-apologetic manner, it would be attractive to millions of Catholics who work every day at following the teachings given by the Church, it would attract Protestants who are sick of their own faith traditions lack of discipline. It would also cause some people to want to reject the Church, yet Jesus never apologized for His strong teachings and neither should His Church. IMO.

I have read a ton of material from many sources and blogs about this issue and I am happy to say that the vast majority of people responding felt the Father was right to do as he did, people felt Sean was rude, argumentative, confrontional and that he clearly knew he was wrong when he pulled out the sex abuse defense.

I think the good Father did far, far more good, then harm and I think Sean Hannity need to hear it bigtime.

I think all Christians would be further encouraged to hear from a Bishop.

God Bless Sean but his feet need to be held to the same fire that he holds the libs to. People today don’t understand the basic reasoning for the Church’s position on ABC and abortion and it makes it easier for them to ignore it. As for Father Morris, I really enjoyed his conclave commentary and hoped him to be pastoral enough to correct Sean, not Father Euteneuer.

Argh, I wish Ratzi would just clean house and set everyone straight!
