News accounts portray her as a productive caring person, and a good mom, but suffering from postpartum depression. Praying for all of those personally involved in this tragic situation.
Hope we never become desensitized and apathetic to the unnatural events that we are witnessing. We have to do better for people who are are suffering from unseen wounds.
Well, its a good point, and one which seems to be a common bond with many of these incidents. I imagine her mental heath history will be know soon also. We sweep everything under the mental health carpet which doesn’t seem “normal” though.
You know, someone walks in the Navy Yard with a shotgun, or the elementary school in Newtown, or attempts to drive a vehicle up the front steps of the White House with a 1-yo in the car…not “normal”.
There’s a lot of depressed individuals out here. Its also a very realistic part of life which we have been treating in one way or another as long as I can remember. When those self depreciating thoughts get the best of you and you start thinking about acting off those feelings or do, its a good time to ask for help, verbalize what’s going with you.
I think Joni Mitchell put it well a very long time ago, “It seems we all live so close to that line and so far from satisfaction” In other words we also have to realize what it is common to us as humans and not unique to us as an individual also. And then deal with it in a healthy productive manner. I’m pretty sure we all get depressed out here. What’s different is how we as individuals deal with it, and to what magnitude this occurs.
I recommend, Church, prayer, family, good friends, honest self-communication, support, plenty of exercise, lots of fresh air, changing from the trauma and bad news channel to the comedy station as to remember how to laugh. And it doesn’t hurt to read and understand yourself either. What I wouldn’t do is start swallowing every pill, every doctor recommends. In other words the holistic approach “first”.
You make a good point though, one has to wonder how exclusive this is to the USA today. kelvinf is pretty sharp, perhaps some elaboration from an outside perspective would help focus.
